That's my experience as well...
Seems to be the case. Some are ok, others not so.
Before I updated I spent weeks checking out feedback, and there was a lot of negative reviews in amongst the good ones. In the end I figured it was worth taking the plunge for the Brambos and Model 15 AU's, but mostly just to keep up to date with everything.
My SE, despite turning off stuff I was running before, has worse battery life. Not a deal breaker, but probably 25% less than it was. It does weird stuff now - the 'tilt to wake' seems to have a mind of its own. Safari is weird, sometimes pressling links does nothing. Sometimes it'll wake itself up, and when I pick it up the camera is open.
My Air 2 also holds less charge, and takes longer to charge up. There's a bit of glitching when switching apps and it runs a bit slower, but I can live with all that. The worry for me is that it's started heating up really badly - and it's cut out a couple of times now. I also get distorted sound occasionally. You could say 'well it's getting old, these things happen', but the truth is I was on a perfect, sweet spot right before updating. Everything ran like a dream - even the dreaded rotation bug had stopped (it's back again, along with all the other stuff). Battery life was great, no sund crackles, and the only time it got warm was when I used Gadget.
In the immortal words of Cher, if I could turn back time then I'd be back on that sweet old iOS 10.
Everything perfect for me;
Until last week I had 2 IPad Air 2’s. One had crackles and other didn’t (both on iOS 11) until I restored the problematic one with healthy back up. I think there’s more to it than just hardware.
I’m wondering if I need to wipe it and start afresh, maybe that would help.
You can certainly try. This hasn’t worked for me though. I’ve tried fresh instal and that didn’t change a thing. It’s a real bitch I tell ya.
At least that give us a feeling we are all unique
Yes, sometimes it´s strange and no one knows which setting, app or mystic event is causing the trouble we might have.
That reminds me at something......iOS indeed seems to be where desktops are for a while
Joke beside, i wonder if that go on where is the easy workflow gone which iOS was made for.
I might should take my tin foil head off but i still think they just want us all into the app store, a store to bound us, a store to.....you know the story.
Oh right, thanks for the warning. Guess I'll just have to put up with it until they provide a fix, or my Air 2 gives up and I get a new one.
I use Video 2 Photo - HD app for this purpose. Works great, you get a large frame by frame preview with multiple export destination options.

I’ve just sold one of my air 2s. The battery had close to 500 cycles on it and I thought there’s no time like Christmas for selling. Now I’m expecting pro 10.5 any day. I’m hoping it is all they say it is. Twice everything than Air 2 sounds like gold. The seller said barely used so there’s hope it still has iOS 10 on it. Might well get lucky
iOS 11 has been the buggiest update ever. I have had several bizarre bugs that only occur under specific conditions. Here is one of the weirdest. I have been able to reproduce it on two different test iPads (but both were the same model, Air 1). Can you reproduce this?
To reproduce this bug:
When the ringtone stops playing it stays STUCK ON THE LAST NOTE.
I first encountered this issue after updating to iOS 11. The bug has persisted through updates 11.1.2, 11.2, and 11.2.1 where it continues as of today. The issue only occurs when the charging cable is plugged into the iPad. It manifests itself in various ways. For example, if someone calls you on FaceTime and you don’t answer, the ringtone will remain stuck indefinitely (bong, bong, bong), until you unplug the charging cable. APPLE, PLEASE FIX THIS!!
I have created a video demonstrating the iOS 11 Ringtone Bug here:
Works fine on my Air 2, iOS11.2.1 but I do have to wonder WTF happened there with your iPad
No problems with ringtone auditioning on my Air 2 but unless it had some influence on music apps (possible) I’m not too bothered really.
Thx. It is exactly the same on my friend’s iPad Air 1, so it can’t be something unique to my particular iPad. Also, it has been the same thru three iOS 11 updates.
If you are trying to reproduce this, make sure you are testing with the charging cable plugged in.
Another way it has manifested is playing videos in VLC. If I pause the video, it will freeze and loop the last second or so of audio. Only way to stop it is to unplug the charging cable.
Fortunately it hasn’t happened with my music making apps, but it is more than a little unsettling to know that this kind of audio bug is lurking in the operating system, and that it remains unfixed thru multiple iOS updates.
I had my charge cable plugged in when I tested and I also tried without the cable plugged in.
When I hear about these 'weird' bugs I always try to reproduce them
Thanks. It is frustrating but also helpful to know that two Air 2 users can’t reproduce the issue. That seems to suggest that it could be something unique to the Air 1 with its A7 chip.
I would be most curious to see if another Air 1 user can reproduce it — or a Mini 2 or 3 user (which also have the A7 chip).
What are you using to get all your readings ?
thread necro alert
Since it seems iOS 12 is close to release, does anyone have any thoughts on iOS 11 compared to iOS 10 in terms of performance?
I'm running an iPad Air 1 with a Roland Duo-Capture and CCK3 and I've found that iOS 10 has generally performed worse than iOS 9 but that I am still able to run most simple things @128 buffer and more complex setups @256 buffer size.
As this is now the lowest spec iPad that can run iOS 11 I'm concerned that the upgrade might impact this performance so if anyone has experience using a lower spec device and/or external audio interface it would be cool to hear about it...
Cheers.
