  • And the iPad mini is catching up with the addition of the A7 chip...and retina display.

  • 399 for the mini and 499 for the iPad Air...very narrow margin and if the Air is indeed that light , it just makes sense to go for it now. Was hoping that mini would be 349 and with Retina and A7 would make a great portable music device.
Does the Air have stereo external speakers now ? I think I saw 2 grills on the iPad.

I guess the new GB features would be more awesome now...Drummer is on !!!!
and we do have IAPs for more features or maybe more Drumkits..

  • I'm more excited by the mini. It got the A7, Retina… hopefully they didn't skimp on RAM. I think I'm moving to Mini.

iPad Air is beautiful of course...but it might actually be eclipsed by the Retina Mini, which now has the same specs in an even smaller package...if I'm not mistaken.

No touchID though, and, a bit disappointed with that, not more RAM either, apparently.

Anyway, I was more impressed with the macBook and Mac Pro announcements....and the free apps might begin to hurt Microsoft and maybe even Adobe....

Edit: @PinkElephant: will Drummer be in the iOS version ? Mac GB only I'm afraid...

First i was impressed by the iPad Air.... then not because "just" an A7 not A7x but i also was very surprised that they put the A7 in the mini. For a moment i was going to give it a chance... but at the end that means that it's the first time that the latest iPhone is on the same power level like the latest iPad. And that means that when it comes to gpu heavy things the iPhone should do a lot better.... but as a musician the ipad mini is calling me now..... but the price goes up. Mmmhhhh. Anyone uses a mini for producing here? Is it a good size?

  • Double microphones if I heard right

  • Oh, and the mini is now available with 128GB of storage.

  • "not more RAM either" - as usual per apple, I don't believe there were any comments made on the amount of ram in either device. Correct?

  • edited October 2013

Yeah, they don't talk RAM on the iDevices.

  • Yes, dual mics and Siri. Will music apps be developed to utilize these features on iPad?

  • It's not really a question of "if" but more of a question of "when"

  • edited October 2013

O.k. the ipad mini is a bit more expensive but the iPad Air seems to be drops at 50€ in the 128GB version (in Germany). But i def. would go with a mini here if i would consider to buy finally a tablet! But why no A7x :( He, he, there is always something eh'!

  • If they were doubling RAM, I think they would have mentioned it, like they do with doubling CPU and Graphics performance?

Or is it like Rolls Royce, when asked about the Silver Shadow's horsepower: "adequate" ?

  • Apple never talks about RAM in their iPhones/iPod/iPads for some reason. But obviously iPad air will have 2gb. The mini will probably be doubled up to 1gb.

  • The ram rumour was for 1 in the mini and 2 in the air..

  • edited October 2013

Rumours.... i think if there is something different from the 5s about ram or clock speed they had call it A7 X.

  • edited October 2013

Why is it "obvious" that they'll double ram? If the iPhone 5S is any indication I would say it's obvious that they're not going to bump the ram.

I *hope they bump the ram, but I'd say it's far from a done deal at this point. i'll wait for the teardown.

  • Maybe the desktop took it all.

Am I the only one who feels like they raised the price of the iPad 2? I mean, thank you very much...my resale value on Craigslist will have more validity now. But wow...I was surprised at that.

And they only knocked 30 bucks off last year's mini price right? They must think everyone in the world is clamoring to get one of their devices or something.

  • What does iPhone have to do with iPad? Totally different markets and areas.

  • edited October 2013

Yeah, I can't believe anyone would buy the iPad 2 at that price. It's over two years old and only 100 bucks cheaper than the day it came out. Especially when you can get the latest specs for exactly the same price in the Mini 2.

  • 64 bit performance and I like the fact they didn't do any giant sized iPads.......but the new Mac Pro with a mouth watering $2999 price tag is something else. Time I start to play the lottery.

  • edited October 2013

That ipad2 pricing is weird. Glad they added 'Air' instead of sticking to their 'It's just iPad" guns cause that was just silly.

  • Totally agree about not just calling it "the new iPad" but whats wrong with iPad 5? That's what everyone is going to call it anyway. Seems like wasted energy to me, but whatever. Maybe Apple will see this post and contact me for their marketing department. I'm full of good ideas. Just ask me.

  • I don't get the Mac Pro. I just don't get it.

  • As light as air. Yeah that makes sense actually.

  • @ChrisG I hear you, I'm just saying I don't think it's obvious that iPad will get 2GB yet. I really hope they do, but that doesn't mean it's obvious that it will. Until I read a teardown I'm going to keep my expectations in check.

  • @Sebs, really? I'm surprised to hear that. I thought you'd be drooling over all that power. That being said, it's about 2k more than I'd be willing to pay for any machine. It's clearly got a target audience. I guess I'm a little surprised that's not you, to be honest.

  • Sebastian, I got an old Mac Pro and it is a beast. It crunches everything I throw at it. This new design has the wow factor and it is an eight of the size of the old Mac Pro and it has spectacular power. The thing looks like the mothership has landed........... cue the photocopiers.

  • IPad Air.... next year introducing iPad Pro ;)
