@AQ808 - I just get on with things. My approach is I couldn't care less about tests and opinions of tech analysts because at the end of the day it is all about choices and how you use your device. I bought iPad 1 on day 1 here in the UK when most people said it was just a big iPhone (lol) and I got immense joy from using it and watching the so called experts eat their words. For me nothing has changed as some people still think the iPad is still a device for consumption only and a toy. Tell that to the creatives.
I suppose I am a guinea pig as far as new gadgets (from Apple) go and I do not wait for perfection to arrive. This has always been my approach since I first started recording on a 4 track. Contrary to what the so called experts are saying I am loving this new iPad Air more and more each day. My partner just loves using it and she can't put it down and it is making me think she is trying to tell me some thing........my wallet is empty though![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
"I couldn't care less about tests and opinions of tech analysts because at the end of the day it is all about choices and how you use your device" - preach brother. preach.
.
I don't understand the obsession with getting the ipad ultra light. Mine is protected with a griffin survivor case and I find the extra overall weight, solidly reassuring.
I understand that people use it in different ways. But still, personally I'd prefer a bigger build and better spec.
.
What matters to me are the reports from other iOS music makers. I've been pushing the limits of my ipad 3 and hitting a wall. Seeing people getting more CPU headroom than I imagined on the the IPA convinced me. Also jumping from 64 to 128 GB will be a relief. Mine is on the way, plus a lightning cable from Apogee and pre-ordered the Otterbox case.

If there is really an iPad pro... Auria will be the first "App" which takes it to the limit
What i would like to see is a side by side competition from music apps between the Air and mini retina. I still had no chance to tested it yet but from what i saw i think the 7,9" could be too small for Auria (and some other apps). However, my Air will shipping next week and i really would like to know before i buy such expensive apps if it's all worth it. I'm really looking forward..... but at the other side i have a bad feeling.... Has anyone an mini (old or new) and an 9,7 iPad? As an totally noob to iPads i don't know what to expect lol. What is really important for me is AlchemyMobile. I love it really on the iPhone (great job on the UI). Is it also usable on the mini? I plan to get this also and i will give away one of the pads as a gift then to my family. What about Animoog on the mini.... too small?
@GE.There is always going to be a trade-off.if you want to be mobile and make music anywhere,...get the mini...I fits into a coat pocket.
@galaxyexplorer - Having an iPad makes my iPhone redundant in terms of making music. Every music app seems to be too small for me and having to get past way too many screens to get to app functionalities kills my workflow. It is the opposite on the iPad. Since the iPad uses all the apps made for the iPhone, you get to play every iPhone app at iPhone size or x2 if so desired. So your iPhone apps will still be very relevant on the mini or Air. I have not used the mini because it is not for me. The mini can also play every iPhone app so that is a massive bonus. It is all a matter of choice so what others say is just their opinion and it may not suit you. For me, the 9.7 screen is the perfect size. Anything bigger and I'll have to call the size police![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Thx.... indeed here is finally the anandtech comparison between these devices.

It's what i thought. On paper they are nearly the same but when it comes to "long" time heavy cpu performance the Air wins hands down. Does that mean Auria will destroy the mini retina
At the other side as you mentioned my hundred of iPhone apps would work also great on an mini...... o.k. i def. must try them booth for a while. But one for sure, i will move on iPad production and just will use my iPhone as "extra" and of course as a phone ![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
To me the phone makes most sense when using it with guitar/bass and usb midi controllers. Then it can make a lot of sense. Playing or editing notes on that tiny screen is a bit of a cramp, but it can work, especially with apps like thumbjam, geosynth or soundprism. But the iPad is of course much better for on screen playing and editing.
I'm also curious about first reports on the new mini with auria because I'm pretty sure I will want a 128GB mini.
I have the mini and an iPad4 and the size difference is very noticeable, however there are some apps that I prefer on the mini to the 4, such as Guitarism. For the most part though I like the 4 better....discounting performance and referring only to the size.
I received my iMini today and am enjoying the size and speed. It gives me a new way to play with some of the apps as I can easily hold it in my hand. I've never been too fond of playing keyboards or tweaking knobs on the screen and I prefer using an analog keyboard with midi with the exception of well designed apps such as the TC-11, Guitarism, Thumbjam, Chordion, etc. . . That don't seem to be any less functional for me, although it might be an issue if you have larger fingers. Some of the apps that use the motion sensors and are too small for the iPhone seem to really work well with the iPad Mini.
Two more things I like about the Air compared to the iPad4:
It charges faster! Quite a bit faster here actually, the iPad4 felt like it would take
It's doesn't get as hot, and cools off quicker. The 4 could get pretty hot with even minimal CPU load if you had the display brightness up (like when working outside). The Air definitely gets warm, but not nearly as much. Also it cools off faster when it does get warm.
Small, but nice improvements day to day.
@Tarekith I could be wrong, but I believe the reason that it charges faster is that Apple moved from a 10W AC Adapter to a 12W AC adapter. This is compatible with all of the iPads and costs $20, so if anyone without the iPad Air really wants to get the same benefit, they can go to their local electronics store and pick one up. :-)
Ah. Another nice benefit then!
I believe the Air also has a smaller battery than the 4, so it's not just the charger causing the decreased charging time.
The iPad4 also has the 12W Adapter. But it still takes a lot of time to recharge.I love my iPhone (4s),that's fully recharged in one hour something. But it's out of supply much faster.Guess you can't have everything![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Bought a rMini and tried it out for a few days. It was nice, I really liked the smaller size, and while it clearly outperformed my ipad 3, I just wasn't blown away. I went to Target on BF at like 9pm just to see what they had left (expecting nothing) but they still had a cage full of iPad airs so I bought a 32GB air and got the $100 gift card. Returned the rMini and the air does feel more powerful to me. I didn't do any scientific tests or anything but if anyone needs to upgrade and is on the fence between the air and rMini, I'd say go with the Air. But if you can wait, I'd say wait. I'd have waited myself if my wife wasn't hinting about wanting my iPad 3. I went with only a 32GB air because I am planning on flipping it for the next gen and didn't want to have too much invested. If apple can keep up this "twice the performance" thing, and adds another GB of ram, next year's ipad is going to kick some serious ass.
I have the ipad 3 and i have theo opportunity to buy a new ipad, i saw an ipad 4 of 32 gb 150 dls less tan an ipad air of 32 gb too, should i buy ipad 4 instead of ipad air? I read a lot of comments saying the ipad air is fragil for thta reason i have my doubts about air, what do you think? Thanx in advanced
Oh god...here we go.
Fwiw, I have an Air and I love it. I upgraded for my iPad Rice Krispy (aka iPad 2 with special snap crackle pop feature when recording audio), so it's all relative. From where I was coming from I would have loved an iPad 3, but everyone sort of regarded that one as a lemon. I can't believe I just used that word.

Mmmmmm... iPad Air! I think I could pop for one - I like the iPhone because of the portability factor, but I have no idea what the new Air will be like in that dept. BUT: will I have access to all the apps the Pad does?
