@boone51 - thanks for that link to appleinsider. I have the 4 and tempted by the 5.
I must thought about this: The iPhone increases cpu from the first model to the latest 40x, the gpu 56x but the iPad increases from first to latest 8x cpu but 72x gpu. Was the first ipad not more powerful in gpu as the first iphone. Also they said the cpu/gpu will be 2x of the previous generations. The cpu was always nearly the same (perhaps a bit more on the pads) but the gpu seems then much more powerful on the iPad Air now. Confused.... but that could mean that they boost the gpu again to handle the 4x pixels on the iPad or? Or they are really the same but on the iPhone 5s it's limited by the OS to save battery life and overheat. I still wonder that they talk about billion transistors etc. but never about the clock speed and ram.
@Galaxyexplorer I honestly have no idea what your question is.
@boone51: Then i don't know why you answer.
Because I'd like to help you if I can, but when I read your comments I couldn't figure out where to start. I thought if I said that I didn't understand what your question was you might phrase it in a way that I could assist you. It's not a problem if you don't want feedback. Sometimes I just rattle off nonsense too.
@boone51: "Nonsense too..." he he thank you. But you're right
I know also my grammar is terrible and my english is bad ass so it sometimes sounds harsh. Sorry. Always wants to learn better english trough an app but then there is always a new audio app to play
I can remember hundred of numbers but not 10 words lol!
Forget my post. I still have my answer because it was simple math. Thank's!
No problem, @Galaxyexplorer. If it makes any difference I think the new iPad Air is going to be pretty awesome. I'll let you know in about a week and half. Been saving up for this one. I'm sure right after I buy it there will be a 13" pro version released with 4 gb ram. Oh well, I have been patient long enough and this money is burning a hole in my damn pocket. (fwiw I think your English is a lot better than my second language is)
I totally understand why there's confusion. What GalaxyExplorer pointed out is:
D = 40 x A meaning A7 cpu in the 5s is 40x better than original iPhone cpu
D = 8 x B meaning A7 cpu in the iPad air is 8x better than original iPad cpu
therefore:
A = 5 x B so the original iphone cpu was 5x better than original iPad cpu??
This assumes that the A7 in the 5s and the iPad Air are the same, which can't be true. and that's what leaves a lot of questions:
How does Apple define their performance increases?
and more importantly: How do the A7 cpu's differ between 5s and iPad air?
Unfortunately, I do not think these answers will come out till after Nov 1 when iPad air goes on sale and tech blogs are allowed to post all their tinkering and testing data. I'll be checking anandtech.com for the details in early November.
"A = 5 x B so the original iphone cpu was 5x better than original iPad cpu??"
this is the part that throws me for a loop. Doesn't it mean the exact opposite of that? And I think the discrepancy could be explained by the number of years difference between the release of the original iPhone (07) and the release of the original iPad (10).
"Unfortunately, I do not think these answers will come out till after Nov 1 when iPad air goes on sale and tech blogs are allowed to post all their tinkering and testing data"
Yep, I agree.
yep, you're right @boone51. so the original iPad was 5x cpu power of iphone 1. I guess that makes sense.
But I'll still look forward to knowing if there is a difference between the three A7 varieties.
and the good thing is now everyone here knows to come to me if you have any logic/ maths questions, lol![:/ :/](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/confused.png)
It isn't so easy. Important would be the first output value of the different devices etc..... at the end i'm sure they will have nearly the same cpu power (perhaps a bit more on the pads) but especially the gpu should be more powerful on the iPads..... at least we should get nearly the same "on screen" performences on all the latest A7 devices..... The A7X comes in March with the iPad Pro![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
.....so if you could compete the cpu and gpu of the first iPhone and iPad then it should be easy....
.
I thought @galaxyexplorer was (interestingly) saying: If the ipad air and ipad mini retina have the same guts but the mini has fewer pixels to worry about then the ipad air would be the slower/"underpowered" because the ipad mini gets all the same power under the hood with much less gpu work to do.
No idea if that's actually true but interesting anyway.
also @galaxyexplorer your english is about 2342304234702348234 times better than my german so cheers and thank you. I am a doughnut.
The iPad air and retina mini have the exact same number of pixels to worry about...
Yep. Same pixel count on those two.
400 is compatible with 800, just need an adapter connector. Cheap fix, your interface is still useful. I have an old Motu 828 plugged into my 800 port no problems.

Both 1gb ram only![:( :(](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/frowning.png)

ScooterComputer - Thursday, October 24, 2013 - link
RAM, 'nuff said. The iPad 2 had 512MB of RAM. The original iPad had 256MB and that was CLEARLY too little (can't even run iOS 6). That gives us a baseline of 256MB of "free" RAM being the entry-level "sweet spot" for usage. When the iPad 3 came out with 1GB of RAM, it was discovered that the increased video buffer (4x bigger than that on the iPad 2) ate up the additional RAM, and the iPad 3/4 was left with LESS available RAM than the iPad 2 (for those keeping track, we're now less than 256MB free). 640bit computing uses an approximately 20% larger RAM footprint than 32bit. That means that the iPad Air and the iPad mini with Retina are looking to be working with less than 200MB of "free" RAM, almost 60MB less than the iPad 2. Yet iOS 7 and these new, great apps (GarageBand, iMovie) seem to be much BIGGER than their ancestors.
RAM...it –is– the question. If these new models ship with 1GB, users should understand they're just about in iPad 1 territory. Ask an iPad 1 user how that's working out.

Yeah, but the CPU is faster, memory is probably faster, and I'm sure there's some RAM compression from Mavericks in there too.
So you won't feel it that much.
If it does only have 1GB of RAM that's a pretty big disappointment. And in terms of manufacturing costs, it would have been fairly trivial for Apple to increase the memory.
I can't understand why I would need to put any faith in that article at all. Where did they get their info from? Who is ValueWalk and how are they getting ahold of iPads before anyone else on the planet? I'm very skeptical.
That being said, nothing would really surprise me. I just want to hear it from the iFixIt guys. They'll have a teardown video up day one.
Yeah I think ValueWalk just copied the specs from Apple and assumed RAM would stay the same since Apple doesn't mention it at all. They're an investment site, not hands-on hardware oriented at all.
Awaiting the geek teardowns next week...
I think it's still 1GB... i was today surprised in a very bad way.... that some apps which was removed from the store and went back are now without any infos about android or windows etc. It was some tech info apps i used to are always up to date in mobile OS. Wow..... apple begin now to remove apps because the talk just about other mobile OS..... funny. Everytime when i think they are on a better way they came with a new bummer. Sorry, no iPad for me![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
I just don't have the energy today...
Hang in there,its Friday..
I have ipad 3 and still run ios6. With app SYS Activity Manager lite (free) it tells me that I usually have about 550mb free ram with no apps running. So it sounds like scooter computer has his head up his ass lol
In related news, since the new iPads were announced, the US refurb apple store has new price levels:
mini 16gb for $249.
Or the sweetspot: ipad 4 32GB for $449
Wow. O_o
The naysayers are out again today it seems. iPad Air in iPad 1 territory? Really? Before you knock the iPad 1, I made an album with a lot of the synth sounds coming from my then iPad 1. That was also the time when a lot of were saying the iPad was only for consumption. Creativity is all about how you use it. Buying a Mac Pro is no guarantee you will end up with the number 1 song in the charts. I say if you are in the market for an iPad Air, just do it! You will be making music and not stuck in numbers land.
^ He's not wrong, you know...
