  • It doesn't' look like anyone is going to bite on your repeated trolls insult. It's too bad. I was looking forward to some fisticuffs for Halloween.

  • I might get the Air if I get a good price for iPad 4. I sold the 3 to get the 4 so fingers crossed this time round again. Or maybe Father Christmas might come down the chimney with a shiny Air.

  • @FrankieJay i would think with the price of the iPad 2 staying as high as it is you could make a strong argument for a high resell price for that 4. I know, being the owner of a 2 myself, I was thrilled with their proposed iPad 2 prices.

  • Mhhh.... yes, i def. waiting for an iPad mini. If just Animoog for iPhone would get on the bus + 4" screen support... but they left that app for iPhone :((( There are a lot synth which make similar sounds but Animoog is so unique and so perfect for a touch screen. Why Moog, why?!?!?!? The Nexus 5 with Android 4.4 i was waiting for is out now for me.... so i just have 3 options. Waiting for iPhone 6, try again to buy an iPhone 5s or get a mini 2. First world problems for sure.

  • I have an ipad 3 so the IPA seems like it would be a big jump forward. Dischord said "Developers consistently tell me that the majority of their bug reports come from iPad 3 users." Which confirms my feeling that ipad 3 is a lemon. Maybe I should buy a used ipad 4 with 128gb. One thing for sure is I won't be rushing into this decision. I'll be waiting for actual reports.

    .

  • @AQ808 "Maybe the trolls will tell me I should also work around this limitation!"

No trolls here (hanging out under bridges is not my scene) but unless you have a magic way to turn 1 gig of iPad Air ram into 2 you will most certainly have to work around this limitation. We all have to work around this limitation until Apple decides gives us more to work with but until then please go out and make the best music you can with what you have to work with, ok?
    Peace

  • @funjunkie27... I'm in the same boat. I promised the wife that I wouldn't be getting the Air but if a Pro comes out, she's outta luck. She's praying to the Android Gods now to wreak havoc on all things Apple.

Maybe its not trolling. Many comments simply point to the elderly demographic of this forum. :)

    Now that's trolling, baby!!!

  • @jackfancy - the Pro or a wife....that will be a tougher decision ;-)

  • There's probably an app for that though. So that shouldn't be much of a problem.

  • I don't see no trolls on this forum. This forum is cool because there is so much wisdom here due to the elderly demographic.

  • It's past 8 am in most of the world... The next post here better be a video of someone playing with Audiobus on a iPad Air. :-)

Also ifixit.com took one apart already and found this part:

    Elpida F8164A1MD 1 GB LPDDR3 SDRAM

    One gig. Depressing.

  • Yep, there's the confirmation. Still going to be a huge upgrade for me coming from the 2. Looking forward to it.

  • +1, coming from the mini. I do like the air... It would also be better for sheet music and video than the mini. Sigh... I want them both.

  • It's confirmed, only 1gb of ram. I'll be checking out some of the new $500 hardware mono synths that came out this year and wait until the new iPad with more ram arrives before purchasing anymore iPads.

I'm sure exploring Maverick and the whole midi, osc connection with the iOS devices will be a productive use of my time.

The A7 chip in my first iPhone is definitely a lot more powerful for music production than the iPad 2 or 3 but of course the apps and form factor can be a very significant issue. If I really get too lustful, I'll go with a 32gb iPad mini retina as at least it'd be a little cheaper and have a form factor that I don't have already which as others have pointed out may be better for some apps and worse for others.

  • So who got an air today and can report on how much free ram is available when idle? Is it noticeably more powerful when running audio apps? Lets hear the details!

  • When i think about how much Apple would like to have for an iPad pro.... i think i could get than a more powerful MacBook for just a few more bucks and could use the "pro" tools which i can control via iPhone f.e. over the touch screen (Alchemy, Abelton live.... and a lot others). Of course everything is faster on the A7 devices but once you use 64bit apps they will need about 30% more ram (or so). At the end i think the new iPads/iPhones are great devices but they are def. not made for multi-tasking! And when the iPad Air still has just 1GB ram then i'm not sure if the iPhone 6 will have more. But i will have a look at the iPads tomorrow to play a bit with them (today here is a holiday). But seems they are sold out fast and in Germany they had just a few in the 128GB 4G version.... like with the golden iPhone 5s in most stores from what i heard.

  • I'm looking at a 32GB iPad Air. Now is tomorrow.

I think 128GB is the way to go for musicians. I'll have a look at the air tomorrow too. Germany also.

  • @FrankieJay I'd have to agree. I think 32GB is WAY to small. If I were able to do things over again, I'd go at least 64GB but would prefer 128GB.

When I bought the mini I was going to get the 32GB version. Luckily they only had the 64GB one then and I got it with a sigh... But I am constantly struggling to keep some free space on that. So 128GB for me, definitely.

  • Ok guys now looking at the 64GB :-)

  • I picked one up today....held it a while..it does feel tiny,..very light.
IT IS A THING OF BEAUTY.
but I wasn't tempted to buy.i'll wait to see the mini2,and even then,I may hold off.
Am waiting to see what AB have for us
and feel(for music making),the leap from the 4 ain't that great.im ready to buy,but ain't sure if this is what I want...limitations an all.

  • I have never struggled w 32, but then I don't keep every music app I ever bought on my iPad.

  • The leap from the 4 looks pretty great in the charts I've seen.

  • Id like a side by side comparison...4 and 5 running same settings and same apps. Kinda like the Duracell add with the bunnies.

  • It's not so much the apps I guess. But I'd like to use it for teaching guitar and bass as well which means I should have a good colletion of popular guitar/bass tunes that I can then disect with anytune pro. Also it's great to cache youtube videos for travel and also teaching. And then there's the actual audio material you want to record and the soundpacks and samples you want to use. It all adds up quickly. Even if you want your pictures to be synced that also takes up a lot of storage, especially if you use an 8mp camera. Also I need all my PDF sheet music on there. If you don't need the ipod part and video then you should have less problems with 64GB or 32GB. But 16GB? Seriously I find it very strange that they still offer that for tablets.
