    Hey everyone,

I totally understand the disappointment some of you are feeling (fair enough!) but all this could, and hopefully would, make BeatMaker 3 better in the long run. We have to re-think ourselves and adapt to the iOS market. Let's face it, the paid model is dying.

Let's keep positive and move forward, we will keep working on BeatMaker 3, bringing more improvements & features, as per usual! The NAMM is a great opportunity to try something else. Sometimes it's good to give back to the community and try something crazy. Nothing is set in stone.

We're not ditching anyone, our awesome community supports us every day, but we have to be able to scale up as well with all the great projects we have planned in the upcoming months / years.

    Hopefully, no hard feelings...!

    Sincerely,
    Mathieu.

I think some people need to get over themselves, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose that’s life !

  • Thanks very much @mathieugarcia and Intua! Looking forward to trying this out.

If I had purchased BM3 outright rather than the promo code, there’d be no hard feelings from me. I think you’re pretty brave (and also a bit crazy) for making an app that normally costs less than a Waves vst and setting the price to “free”.

So, you already know my Testflight email, and when the iPhone version of BM3 is ready for beta testing, send me the invite! Cheers mate.

    This

And no mention of a refund for all of us who actually bought it ;)

  • Ridiculous. Constant posts saying that great apps should cost more and the best devs should get paid more. Then suddenly a million people want to use BM3 for their production just because it's free. But it wasn't worth buying and using for their art before. Hypocrisy on tap... Ios devs are screwed!

Well said @mathieugarcia , no hard feelings here, however I would like to see some presets added to BM3 and also I reported a bug when a file is dragged from the iOS file app onto a audio track, nothing happens. Please investigate this.

Well, they could of been free for those two days BM3 is free.

  • Thanks again, Mathieu and good luck.

I wonder if eventually you are able to get PC/Mac versions going, then the iOS versions become free with plenty of IAP fodder filtering down to help income? If the PC/Mac versions could become successful, maybe the iOS version would pull more people in from iPhone and iPad markets?

I love the app, so am going to put my money where my mouth is and buy more sound packs. Hopefully if people buy these it may help fund continued development until you can expand into other markets. I presume you make some money from the sound packs?

Anyway, just thinking aloud. Wishing you all the best for future development.

Though to be fair it's these kind of self-devaluation give-aways that perpetuate this kind of thinking. Devs are creating an endless catch 22 for themselves...

  • Let's face it, the paid model is dying.

    What do You mean?

Jeez...It's right what a guy I was chatting to in my local music store was saying about music forums being the worst for disagreements and arguments.

  • Thanks for the support and feedback everyone, that means a lot.

It's a risky move, but sometimes, you gotta get out of the zone; let's see how this goes.

Hopefully we can get all those creative people on board, or people who were undecided about throwing XX USD for an app without being able to test it.

    Cheers! <3

    Mathieu.

They could have just tested and got a refund?

  • iOS really needs to offer timed demos.

  • I can’t understand why people here is complaining about Beatmaker 3?

You paid 25 bucks for it this summer, and, seven month of joy later, this is free... What’s the problem with that??

It’s peanut money... Get a life!

Again, are you seriously kidding? You’re getting a $24.99 app for free. Do you seriously expect Mathieu to entirely eliminate any means of income for four days straight?

I actually bought the app when it first came out. Naturally, I am going to be pissed off if it's free now but atleast for the people like myself who bought the app the dev could of given us the sample packs for free for those two days BM3 is free.

Creative people have creative opinions. Keeps it interesting.

The internet is overflowing with endless, high quality free samples / sample packs. Find them, make your own. Let a gift be a gift.

Now, that would have been crazy!

  • I think what @mathieugarcia has said raises some important issues that we have often discussed in the past regarding long term development income. While I’m sure some will just start fighting, we have a decent opportunity here to discuss this and each to have his / her say.

We could really give devs an idea of where we are on the matter and how we are willing to at least consider other options.

How about it? Could we hold back from throwing personal insults at ideas we don’t like and even learn to discuss opinions we don’t like?

Come on guys and gals....what say ye? How’s about a nice coffee and some decent conversation while we put the world to rights?

  • edited January 2018

    Easy...
I got Beathawk when it was for free and what I did next month? I purchased half of their soundpacks. It was great deal for them.

  • I don’t understand how useful is the free offer . Maybe it would be better throwing a free version with all features but not able to save a project .( not only for BM3 )

I actually create my own sample packs so it doesn't really matter. It was only a thought that the BM3 dev could of made the sample packs free for other users who bought the app for the time being as part of NAMM 2018.

Wait what? It is free? Oh no, all of these mixed feelings....where is my pitchfork?...wait, where is my olive branch?

Should I hate Intua for charging me for their hard work?

Should I hate other people for getting the same thing for free or should I hate Intua for cheating me?

What’s in it for ME? Could I get some free sound packs out of it? Who cares if the ship is sinking. Is the ship sinking? If it is sinking then who cares if I get free sound packs or that intua are giving their app for free.

Is the ship sinking? Maybe they’re just sending out the crow.

What if they know something we don’t? What if they know that iOS 11.3 screws up all the audio and this is the end of all this?

What is the actual worth of a software application?

What’s in it for me? Is this how we can finally define humanity?

If the price is low it shifts in high numbers, it it is high it shifts in low numbers. Market forces? Now I know what Beatles meant when they sang ‘the inside is out and the outside is in’.
