Guess I'll have to pass this time, no more room for new BIG apps on my iPad Air 2.

Will wait for the next sale if/when I get a bigger iPad...
(iOS13 will decide what happens, If the iPad Air 2 is no longer supported I'll get a new one otherwise I'll stick with it).

Lol, same here, I’ll have to stick to using Bassalicious 1 for now, plus I bought Neo Soul Keys and that was 4 gigs itself 😮. I don’t see Bassalicious 1 on the App Store anymore but hopefully we’ll still be able to reinstall it if we need to.

Any plans to go universal with this one?

Yep...got the graphics done. Jus wanted to get the iPad out first, but the iPhone GUI and controls are pretty much done.

    Wut?! SOLD.

Congrats on the release and THANKS for making it universal.

  • @tja We probably won’t ever support AB with AUv3, IAA, and Virtual MIDI.

AB support is not that easy to implement with the libraries we use.

    1.6GB is considered big?

Lol, not for peopl with 500 gigs and Terabyte storage, but yeah, when your situation is like mine, but I might have to delete some stuff.

That bugged me too. But the screenshots of the new version seem to display the current preset prominently at the top of the window.

Much better preset system with a favorites option and searching as well.

You might want to consider implementing reporting of presets to the host. It’s a standard function and I don’t think difficult to implement. This will enable presets to show up in hosts’ native preset browsers as well as in the app. I believe it will also allow changing of presets via midi learn in AudioBus and AUM.

    Many thanks @Jumpercollins
Did you try to feed it MIDI?

Fugue Machine going into it in the midi sender slot works great.

    No AudioBus? :o :o :o

OK, going to wait then :)

IAA, AUv3, Virtual MIDI, Background Audio, but not AudioBus support...

    But will AB come?

Virtual MIDI may already help, maybe someone can test in how far it can be included in a regular AudioBus plus AUM session.

It can still be used in Audiobus! Just as an AU, not as a Standalone/IAA.

Many thanks, this could suffice for me.

Before I buy, I would still like to know if there are plans to later add full AB support, @GospelMusicians

Why is that important? I’m as big an AudioBus fan as anyone, but AudioBus support is a non-issue for an AUv3 plugin. You can use it perfectly in Audiobus. What else is needed?

@GospelMusicians - You might want to strongly consider rewording your note about Audiobus. It is going to confuse many people into thinking it’s not usable in AudioBus.

  • It sounds like Sugarbytes apps. They work fine in AB as AUv3s.

    Uhm.
    Yes.
Exactly this happened to me and explains my strange questions.

The "NO AudioBus support" tag implied to me at first, that it cannot be used in AB at all and would not be visible!

Then I saw that Virtual MIDI may help to get MIDI from AB to the App and finally I learned that the AU is normally visible in AB, but was still hesitating that it may not work.

I only now begin to understand, that this may just be a totally regular AU that can totally normal be used in AU?

    Yup.

Then "only" the IAA / standalone Version does not work with AudioBus?

    Yup.

Sorry for the confusion - and yes, this could be formulated different in the App Store, just not to confuse people!

The confusion is totally understandable. At least you aren’t like the people who are likely to skip purchasing, or leave a one-star review without asking questions first. I bet this is going to bite @GospelMusicians in the butt if not changed in the App Store description.

What I’m curious about is why there’s a standalone/IAA version at all. BASSalicious 1 was AUv3 only. So they went to some obvious trouble to make it IAA ... but I can’t fathom why.

bassalicious has always been standalone as well

Correct. But not IAA, right? I think the standalone was just in an AU wrapper of some sort.

  • Great app!

Neo Soul Keys, Bassalicious 2.0... now I‘m waiting for a drummie from you guys B)

Very interesting conversations. When asked a year ago if users preferred high quality with more samples vs lower quality with less amples, it seemed as if people preferred the higher quality and sacrificed the size/space. Now it seems as if lower quality and smaller. In fact I remember specifically, that people wanted an even larger version of Neo-Soul Keys Studio than the 4GB for the high quality.......

How fast things change in a year

  • Someone mentioned talk of an upgrade path? I’ll probably buy either way but want to know what the options are.

We wish there was an easy way, but Apple doesn’t favor or offer upgrade paths and programming it would take some serious work.

  • Great app, great size - but I have place on my ipad 512...I understand however why some people are hesitating. All I can say is that such a quality app really worth using some megas...

Fair enough. I can live with an $8 “upgrade.”

  • Just bought it!!! Can’t wait to thump!

  • I like the big samples, keep the quality high
    Just bought it now
Will test out when I’m back from my tests at the hospital
    More bass for my face

Oh my! $8.00 is an absolute bargain for this “upgrade”!

@GospelMusicians, if you want to cut the original BASSalicious owners a break after the price goes up, you could offer a discounted bundle. That requires no programming. Perfectly understandable if you don’t, and totally worth full price either way, but just putting it out there in case you weren’t aware that could be done.

I have over a hundred gigs free. Keep em coming!

  • Either way we are so appreciative of the support and feedback. Everyone seems to always be very courteous and respectful, unlike the VST side.

It really helps the development process when people enjoy making good music.

  • I’m also in the big samples camp, and just bought it. I hope this new architecture facilitates an auv3 drum sampler

Unless I’m just in that phase of new app giddiness, I’m thinkin’ the space may end up being about a wash. Just browsing through the presets, I feel like I might be able to get rid of a few other sampler patches, and apps of considerable size I was keeping around primarily for a bass patch or two.

Either way, I’m not going to complain about the size. This one is worth it.

Do you have a ballpark target release date for the iPhone version that you are able to share?

Probably still true for users willing to pay for the best audio.

it seemed as if people preferred the higher quality and sacrificed the size/space. Now it seems as if lower quality and smaller.

I have an App that consumes 32GB with all samples I have purchased and I'm not done
collecting them all. I deleted it to buy more Apps. I installed it on a iPhone and was grateful that it was universal. I play it as a remote sound module from my IOS DAW's and use the headphone jack because of USB audio between IOS devices needing a USB hardware host like a Mac or iConnect4+ audio interface. Haven't considered the software approach yet.

What would work for me would be precise loading of instruments from that 32GB monster.
Label each instrument by it's size and let me more them in and out for various project needs. I assumed Apple provides the network for downloads but this 32GB of samples can
take a days to download so I suspect the seller pays for network downloads after apple confirms the authorization. There's this moment where I buy one $50 instrument over and over confirming the purchase and then it tells me... "You already bought this. Do you want to get it again for free?" Always a tense moment.

Make lights, mediums and biggies and charge accordingly, IMHO. Need room. Add that light
pack and let Apple (or the vendor) hold the samples for later.

Don't get me started on App backups to control load/unload myself. (Any tricks appreciated).
