I tried PolyThemus driving 4 Bassalicious 2's and it didn't work as hoped.
The sounds didn't layer but they create even with just 2 voices some loud
noisy artifacts even when using sweet sine wave tones.

I think the AUv3 implementation prevents running 2 or more based on some buffer that
2 or more instances fight over.

Wait for someone to figure out how to get 2-4 clean signals before buying
if you're expecting to layer them for polyphony.

Just a heads up. As a Monophonic Bass it's really nice as the video indicates.
It's easy to find a Preset to inspire a project. Phat. Really fills a need for me.

Haven't noticed any issues layering yet. My only problem so far is in the Reverb effect section on my 2017 iPad Pro

I can't run Dream Verb or spring reverb with just a single AUV3 instance, both of those spike the CPU over 100% by themselves ...Gotta be a bug in there somewhere w/ the Reverb effects section, as the Chorus and Mverb push it up to 50%,
The insert and MFX sections work fine, with reasonably low CPU even stacked with multiple effects.

So far here is what I have for a summary of Bugs:

    1. IR Verbs crashing AUv3 Apps
    2. Need to add scrolling option for apps like BM3, NS2, and Cubasis so you can access the bottom of the screen
    3. Rare crashes with some users who can't even open the app (Not sure what that is)
    4. Some presets crashing the system. Haven't found a pattern on presets

You can send a log file in Settings, but please make sure to include a description and how to reproduce it. If a preset crashes, then please include the preset name.

For AUv3 sizing, you may not be able to get 100% full size. Literally every AUv2 hosting app needs special tweaking and programming, because every developer ads their own "twist" to the AUv3, so we will make it as compatible and useable as possible.

PS: I may be offline for a while working on these bugs and things...so please email us from the form or send crash reports...

THANKS SO MUCH...for all of the support and encouragement!

  • @wim @McD polythemus will work fine in lieu of a poly synth from Gospel Musicians (I had no artifacts and it sounds amazing), but polythemus doesn’t really allow for quick tweaking of a mono-poly patch after you have it wired up in AUM. You either have to adjust all parameters for every instance, or save and recall a preset, or map every parameter you’d like to tweak to a controller.

  • @GospelMusicians Some bug & crash reports for iPadPro 10.5 / IOS 12.1.4 / AUM / Bassalicous 2 AU

    • With the Init-Preset, add an DreamVerb. With higher Decay settings (>7sec, knob about middle position) the DSP goes way up to 90%. Without mVerb DSP is about 3%. Further turning of the DreamVerb decay settings crashes the AU.

    • With the Init-Preset, add an Spring-Reverb. Wiggling the decay button in the upper range crashes the AU. DSP is about 50%.

    • With the Init-Preset, add a Flanger IFX. Turning the rate knob produces loud crackles even with minimal intensity and/or feedback settings (use wet=100%)

    • With the Init-Preset, add a Dim D Chorus IFX. Turning the depth knob produces loud crackles.

    • When not in full-screen mode, there is no way to scroll the IFX popup list to reach the ‚lower‘ ifx.

    • When not in full-screen mode, the lower presets in the preset-browser can not be reached since it does not scroll up enough. Also the ‚loading bar‘ is not visible in ‚standard AU size‘. Double-tapping AUMs AU window is not enough height, one has to further enlarge the AUs window to be able to see and select all presets.

    • Since Bassalicious 2 can resize its interface when the AUs window width is made smaller than AUMs default (and then IFX and presets are reachable) you could also react to window height and choose the scaling that will fit the AU. BTW with lower scaling, the IFX popup gets a scroll button at its vertical ends - so the functionality itself is already there :)

    • Sometimes just changing presets causes a crash. When probing trying out some presets and playing notes, changing to another preset might crash the AU. To reproduce, open up the AUs preset browser, select 03 Bonus / 02 Torben Bank A, open with first preset and play a single note. Now choose next preset and play a single note, and repeat For me it crashes after the 14 or 15 preset. (around hardballer) Does not happen with 01 Factory/Bank A, nor with 02 Legacy / Bank C

    .

Don’t worry - I really like the app B) It sounds great and has to tons of cool bass presets :)

Thank you @GospelMusicians - great sounding instrument!
I have experienced the following issues when running Bassalicious 2 as AU in Beatmaker 3:

    • the bottom part of the UI is not visible, like others have reported for other hosts
    • At least in Beatmaker 3 (AU), there is the sample rate conversion issue like for example in Syntronik, where the sound is out of tune. I didn't test in other hosts yet.
      (I'm using a 3rd gen iPad Pro 12.9)

Confirmed the AU sample rate problem on 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 with Cubasis as well!

  • This app is running amazing on my crappie iPad 6 anyway!

Honestly, I hate to love apps like this.

Apps like this and Neo Soul Keys, make iOS a permanent part of music making for me.

Apps like this and Neo Keys on iOS defy logic for the price and depth of instruments you get for real versus a computer equivalent.

I KNOW THERE MAY BE A BUG HERE OR THERE ON THIS APP BUT UNLIKE MANY DEVS, THIS DEV IS HERE RESPONDING IN REAL TIME. NOT HIDING BEHIND SOME MEGA COMPANY PECKING ORDER OR MAZE OF COMMUNICATION EMAIL CHAINS OF AUTOMATED RESPONSES.

I think apps like this and developers like this are what makes iOS music making such a valuable thing.

I have faith and patience this developer will handle all the issues in due time.

So let's continue to be kind and patient as we see he responds to our feedback and posts.

    Peace to my AB family.

  • @GospelMusicians, on FaceBook you mentioned that Pure Synth Platinum is coming in a month or so. That’s really great news 😊

8,315 samples? I’m not quite sure what this means. Does It have these samples loaded in so that you can select them as sounds like PCM sounds on a sample based synth? I would not have thought so as this seems to be purely a synth- and it can’t be presets because they are mentioned separately?

Yes. They can be loaded into each of the four oscillators. It seems like they’re samples with loop points set. They play, then loop seamlessly while sustaining.

That’s a lot! Mind boggling. I have calculated that if you listen to one every three seconds- it will take you nearly seven hours to listen to them all.
Is this some sort of record?
Not fifty or a hundred or even two hundred. Not a thousand or twelve hundred- that would be quite a lot.
    Eight thousand-three hundred-and fifteen!!
I can’t even imagine that many sounds in my head.

Excellent quality as usual with a few minor issues to sort out. Happily, the AU is more stable than the standalone, although I think the latter was just a case of preset selection bugs. This really can compete with the Moogs and I like it much better for more classic funk basses (even though the Moogs are there too). Even though the Moog sound is my favorite, sometimes it gets stale using it on everything.

  • It's also refreshing to have a bass synth more dedicated to classic sounds rather than that hyper agressive rococo EDM stuff

  • I want to say thank you for this release! It sounds excellent! I also want to ask if there are any plans to bring FM Tines to iOS at some point? I love that program on PC (especially 2.0) and use it a lot!

    😷

  • @GospelMusicians - how does one save their own preset in AU? I was able to save my own bank and folder, but the + sign was grayed out for the preset in the AU itself.

  • That's it. No more bass sounds required. Ever. Ridiculously big and good. Well done. Yes, yes, scrolling, bug, etc., but please, this thing is the thing.

  • Just pushed the buy button!
Just wait and see... 1.6GB take awhile...

Coming back later for my personal review...

  • Bought it because of the good feedback here!

Sadly the standalone app is crashing while starting (after 10 seconds crackling in the startscreen).
As AUv3 in AUM no problem...

    iPad Pro 10.5 - iOS 12.2

    Update:

I don’t know why but today the app is starting in standalone mode with no problems! Yesterday no way...

When I wrote this yesterday I used only the internal speakers. The only new thing I did yesterday night was connecting the iPad with my Audio Interface. Now BASSalicious ist starting properly even without the Interface.

    Strange... 😎

  • @GospelMusicians congrats on the release, is it possible to exchange patches to and from the desktop version?

Not at the moment, but there are plans for this via the iCloud Sharing.

We've gotten FM TiNES samples down to 8.8GB. We are only using the samples that it takes to make the presets. With many people not even liking 2GB, not sure if 8GB would be worth it. It's really, really hard to reduce the sample quality...it just doesn't sound the same.

  • I understand. FM Tines is massive so it makes sense the size is so big. I wouldn't mind 8.8GB given that I have a 64gb ipad. I still have enough space on my device to hold that much but I can get why others may not like such a big file size. I appreciate you letting me know about this @GospelMusicians and am looking forward to whatever magic you do to bring FM Tines to us.

I dunno. I love these guys and all that they do, but the parabola of purchase is going to take a serious hit at 8.8...

I'll buy it! Even at 8.8GB.

Don't limit yourselves, in a couple of years storage will have increased anyway.
