It does not matter which app I am on. Usually, I try from Files or AudioShare. It happens with all file types, I’ve tried (wav, aif)…and I have no trouble opening the files from within Auditor.
It has been this way for me since updating the OS from 12.x to 13.x. I hoped that 14.x would resolve it as someone had told me the issue was only in 13.x
It's a weird 'bug' as it doesn't affect everyone and it's not even tied to a specific iOS version or iPad model...
All I know is that sometimes apps don't proper register with the system regarding what filetypes they are able to handle.
In those cases a simple 're-install' will not help...
Since it works on my iPad Air 2 with iPadOS14.7.1 I can not investigate further
It is my understanding that it only happens for apps who register as handling all sounds. If I recall correctly, when people first started reporting the issue, a couple of developers added, specific sound types in addition to the “all sounds” category and that may have fixed it for them.
I tried working around it by creating a shortcut but that didn’t work for me.
That being said, i cant say my share menu has been reliable.
Samples in files and audioshare default to 1 of 2 apps, and i dunno why one of them is a "default"
No rhyme or reason. Both of these samples are the same format, in the same folder, from the same website/source.

@LivingMemorySoftware
Is it possible or at all planned as a feature to host Auv3 effects from within Auditor?
Thank you! I tried using your support site first (on 2 devices), but the form never successfully submits the ticket.
My impression from past comments was that it was not likely to become an AU host.
@espiegel123 Thanks mate.
If you specifically need an audio editor with AUv3 support try the free app called Wavebox Audio Editor
Thanks…
@branis I really like Wavebox, In reviewing and prepping hundreds of samples for my Polyend Play, I've discovered that little conveniences around file naming and handling go a long way. This app is great for that workflow.
There are some drawbacks to Wavebox though - 'Applying' an AUv3 doesn't always have an effect, there's no adjustment of an effect once it's been applied, no reordering of the AU signal chain, and no saving of that signal chain.
Going through hundreds of samples I'd like to:
I just purchased Auditor to clean up and time correct audio recordings while I'm away from my studio (Ableton).
I'm trying to figure out how to turn on the metronome so that I can warp/stretch sections of my audio to be in time.
I’ve looked in the manual and online but am not able to find a way to turn on the metronome.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I don't think there is a metronome in Auditor.
i add another layer with a click if needed. Also one day living memory might get back to me:
How do you stretch an entire file in Auditor?
Example: the file is 15 beats at 120 bpm. I want to stretch it to 16.
Set the tempo for the file to be 120 bpm.
In the stretch dialog, you should set 15 entered as the number of beats since that is the selection’s length at the current tempo. set number of beats to 16 which result in 106.67% appearing in the display at the bottom of the window , and press commit
Thank you so much. Now, do you happen to know how to warp audio to adjust timing? I’ve got a guitar piece that was not played to a Metronome, so I need to warp it. Having a really hard time finding out how to do this. Thank you.
Warping is done in the slicer. Set the slice markers. Tap on the automatic/manual mode button so that you are on the page that has the Warp button. Tap Warp. Now tap on a slice you want to move, and drag its marker (i usually have to zoom in to do it) to where you want the slice to start. Repeat for all slices whose timing you need to adjust.
Thank you! It’s surprising this hasn’t been discussed more often.
True
In Auditor slicing mode, I can’t see a way to just pause the play head. When the play button is pressed, it turns into a stop button. When that is pressed, it doesn’t pause, but goes back to the start of the slice. Does anyone know a way to get it to pause where it is instead? Also, is there a way to scrub the audio? That might also be useful for helping me find the right place to put a marker. Any feedback appreciated, have not used this app much. I have looked over what seem like the relevant parts of the manual but didn’t find an answer.
The slicer is optimized for playing slices. For what you want to do, I think committing the slices to markers and editing in the main window is what you want. You can go back and forth between the two as needed.
Thanks Ed, will try that, cheers
I’m having trouble playing any kind of file in Auditor. Anyone else?
I’ve tried different wav files. Delete & reinstall etc
I’m on iPadOS 17.4.1
What exactly happens?
Thanks @espiegel123 Literally nothing it seems. Hit the play button, nothing. May well be user-error but I’m sure it worked much easier in the past.
For now I’ve switched to Wavebox to perform the quick tasks I needed.
