I am hopeful that Boris will bounce back. He will, of course, be receiving world-class care. Should he perish the tragedy for his family will be very real and the Greek Tragedy of this man who got what he wanted and then perished on the steps of his own achievement will also be hard to properly fathom, even for the fiction-writers among us. The ideal scenario is he's put on a ventilator and the NHS doctors and nurses save his life.
Once recovered, and the virus emergency is faded, he realizes how important the NHS is in general, and speficially for him as it saved his life, and passes a law that the NHS has adequate funding for decades to come in a reversal of the squeezing the funding and stranggling the life out of it that the Torries have been doing with their austerity drive.

Only if Boris recovers. The conservative party have already ditched austerity under him, he sacked the previous chancellor for that very reason. The strategy adopted by Boris and his advisor Cummings is to lean right on cultural issues such as immigration, and left on economic issues (ie more spending). The budget that was announced prior to the COVID crisis could have come from a Labour chancellor, Boris having realised that austerity is no longer a vote winner.

However should the worst happen (and I hope it doesn't) and the Prime Minister dies or is no longer able to continue in his duties, then all bets are off, because his replacement as Conservative leader could be another ideologue committed to fiscal conservatism.
