@azul3D_Apps
Thank you for adding arrangements to Piano Motifs. It makes it really easy to try out different combinations of motifs and create arrangements to export and use in AUM/LK 😊👍
With extra hell yes.
Wow. Amazing update. Thank you @azul3D_Apps
Great update! Would be good if when you hit play in the arrangement view it stayed on that view and showed the sequence.
Thanks :-)
@azul3D_Apps this may be an easy question to answer, but i can’t seem to export the Audio file of the arrangement. I select Audio from the Share popover but it doesn’t prompt to save it anywhere.
I also see the audio file in the Library but don’t see anyway to share it. Am i missing something in the UI workflow?
Thanks.
Hi @echoopera, the audio file is generated on the fly while a motif or arrangement is played. Only after the motif or arrangement is fully played will it be available for sharing (MIDI can be shared at all times). The Library doesn't save audio files, it saves the motifs in an internal format. If you continue having issues not being able to share the audio file please send me a DM with the details of your device, OS version, and the steps you followed, so we can get to the bottom of it.
Thanks.
Ahhh. I see now. Thanks. I tapped on END before the arrangement finished so that’s why i wasn’t able to export the Audio.
Should the Audio option be present if the file hasn’t been generated? It shows up in the Share menu if a user hits End before the arrangement has finished.
@echoopera
No, it shouldn’t show up. I think there are some cases in which this can happen. For example when you play a motif in its entirety, then go to the arrangement screen, don’t do anything and come back to the main screen. The audio option is present then, but no audio is shared. I will work on a fix for the next revision. Thanks for finding this.
Spoke too soon. It is hit or miss when the audio export will work. I’ve run it three times allowing the arrangement to play all the way thru. Tapping on the Share Audio item does nothing. Sharing the Midi works fine.
I’m running 14.4.2 on iPad Pro 2018 model
Fantastic! Arrange (Song) mode has taken an already great program to a new level. And what’s really interesting is, it’s now easy to string different motifs together in a quick spontaneous way. I’ve found some motifs working together that I would’ve never thought of and has driven me to new ideas and new paths to explore. The Arrange mode has made it so surprising and fulfilling to experiment with.
Now that you have the added ability for arranging, a suggestion ... expand the choice of adding (shorter bars), 1, 2, 4 & 8 “Bars” to the selection process. As it stands now, I am always limited to 16 bars (minimum) or more.
I’m hoping this is a relatively easy change to the code.
Here’s my thoughts on why this would make the Arrange mode even more powerful.
By “forcing” different keys & scales with a shorter number of bars, I would be able to create, short, quick, compatible interludes for transitional phrasing. As it stands now, I am always limited to 16 bars (minimum) or more. An additional modification would add a new dimension to the Arrange mode without having to jump through hoops creating shorter Interludes where I would have to export them and edit them in some other program.
This Dev listens to his users and actually makes changes people suggest (when possible). At this rate, imagine what this program will look like in a year or two!![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
So, I am suggesting to anyone who might be reading my comment ... please, please tip your “bartender!”
Fantastic updates continue for this great app @azul3D_Apps .![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Was wondering if we could possibly have 5/4 and 7/4 time signatures sometime in the future ?
Would be awesome...
+1.
And thanks for constantly improving this already amazing app, @azul3D_Apps !
@echoopera, thanks for the info. Yes, this seems to be a more generalized issue when sharing newly created arrangements. I have submitted a new version with a fix to the App Store for review. Hopefully it will be ready to download soon.
@thenoneone, you could try programming your own chord progressions where you will have complete control of the number of bars for the motif. Some users have used this successfully to create 2 or 4 bar riffs that sound great.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t solve what I am suggesting. Even though I can arrange my own chord progressions, the progressions themselves are too long and there’s no way of making them shorter. Maybe I should’ve use the word “beats.” In other words, let’s say eight beats in 4/4 time. That would be 2 bars in 4/4 time which would be my target for creating an interlude. And your shortest limit is 16 bars. That would be 16×4 beats per bar (again 4/4 time) which would make it 64 beats. And that’s way too long for a transitional phrase.
@thenonenone, the bars setting is only used for when you use random chord progressions. When you program your own chord progressions the app respects the number of bars you have specified. Here are two examples of what you could get by programming the chord progressions to have 1 bar (C) and 2 bars (GC). To do this, you should leave the bars setting to "Def" (Default).
Anyway, I will see if I can allow the number of bars to be set to lower values for when random progressions are being used.
A new version of Piano Motifs is available which fixes the audio sharing issues. It also incorporates improvements to the algorithm that generates random progressions.
Great app, great updates, many thanks @azul3D_Apps .
Would it be possible for the Arrange feature to have silence (of definable lengths) be inserted between sections?
So far it seems to be working. Now it prompts me to name the Arrangement file first before successfully saving the Audio file to a directory.
Thanks for the quick turn around on the fix!
OK, I see what you’re saying, which wasn’t apparent to me before. There is a downside I just found out with that method. I created 2 bars but I wanted to add 2 more bars (because it was just a little too short for the interval that I was trying to make) to make it a total of 4 bars. When I did this, I was forced to press “new“ so I could get back into the settings and use “program chord progression.” I lost the nice composition that I had and it used an entirely different one when I came back out of the settings menu. I suppose I could save the short motif at that point and bring it back in for the arranger, but I don’t feel that’s quite as intuitive. At least in my case, I think I would prefer to have the option within the “bars“ chooser as said earlier. But maybe that’s just me.
I would like to also bring up something else. When using the “audition” function, I have to tap the motif that I want and it takes me to the main screen. I then have to listen to the entire sequence, which I don’t always need to do, or use the “end“ button to end sooner. Both ways take me back to the audition screen but, I lose my place because the highlighted song that I selected is now unselected. Sometimes I have so many motifs it’s confusing because they can all look very similar. I think it would be better to just tap on down the line on the list without ever leaving the list screen. That way you never have to go through the extra steps only to loose yourself on the list. I hope I’ve explained that properly.
And last of all, when auditioning an arrangement, It would be nice to know (on the main screen) which block in the arrangement is being played in realtime at given any moment. Call it a “ realtime visual bookmark” which would be of help when taking notes or making decisions on which blocks need to be, say, in a different order.
Great work as usual!
I will be tipping again shortly.
A new version of Piano Motifs (v2.28) has been released. This version has the following new features:
• Added the ability to set the melody note frequency.
• Added the ability to program 1, 2, 4 or 8 bars for a Motif.
• When returning to the Library after auditioning a Motif, it is now highlighted.
• When auditioning an Arrangement the Section name is displayed.
• Improved random progression generation algorithm.
Enjoy!
First off, this app is soooo good. Thanks for it. I read the above quick thinking you’d added MIDI import, but on going back realized that comment was for Atom. I’d been trying all sorts of ways to get a file back into it. Ha.
Any chance for import to happen?
Not quite sure what “A” and “S” mean? Any suggestions on how to use the sliding bar?
Also when I tried to use “A” slider, I can’t seem to slide it either left or right.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! So much easier now!
Yes that works really well and I’m very appreciative.
I don’t believe this is working properly. When I click the play button while I’m in the arrangement mode, it exits to the main screen (as expected) and starts playing the arrangement. However, the information bar just remains on the same section (A) even though I have various sections B, C, & D in the arrangement. The main screen isn’t updating in real time as the song progresses so I’m not sure what block in the arrangement I’m listening to.
This update … Woweee!![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Seems to be working to me. When you click to play the arrangement it goes back to the main screen and just above the time ticking off it says A section then B section when they each are playing. This is on my iPhone but haven't tried on iPad yet.
Edit: You have to click the play button at the top of the Arrange window not the Done button which sends you back to the main page and if you then click the play button on the main screen, it only says Arrangement and you don't see the sections go by. Maybe that was what you were doing? Just a guess there.
This is probably an issue for very small screen sizes, the button names get truncated. It should be a selection between Any (the default) and Set. When you select Set, you should be able to move the slider. Moving the slider to the right will result in a higher melody note frequency and moving the slider to the left should result in a lower melody note frequency.
We didn’t encounter this behavior in our testing. If you don’t mind I’ll DM you with some questions so that we can figure out what the issue is. Thanks.
Ok after playing an arrangement on iPad I confirm it is not showing Sections changing when playing so it works correctly on my iPhone which is on the latest version of iOS 14 but my iPad Air 3 is still on iOS 13, not sure if that is relevant.
Just to clarify, displaying the arrangement section will not work when MIDI Out is enabled. At some point I was very wary about any UI updates that could cause issues with MIDI Out, so none are done. I will revisit this, to see if small UI updates are OK.
A tip on something that might not be evident in the Arrange screen. If you long press over a section you can move it around to place it somewhere else.
@azul3D_Apps wow.. incredible!! thank you so much. what an amazing developer and person.
Amazing!
