Yes, it has it for each channel but a global wet/dry is a good idea.

An iPhone version would be so good! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

  • Maybe IK Multimedia is struggling with:

    • iPhone has not enough CPU power
    • not enough people would buy an iPhone version
    • too small iPhone screen

Really would love to see an iPhone version!

  • New update 1.1 is out:

  • Some more info about the new British Dynamics module from their homepage. Sounds awesome:

"The British Dynamics module is based on one of the most popular and universally acclaimed British mixing consoles which hit the market with great impact in the 80’s and forever changed the way records were made. The British Dynamics carefully reproduces all of its op-amp VCA Compressor/Expander-Gate behavior and, as for the real thing, it can be used on all kinds of sources across a DAW to finely craft the mix’s sound. Its controls will make all instruments gain their own sound and dimension thanks to the super-precise dynamics capabilities of going from subtle level control to extreme squashing and effective gating."

The addition of this module gives me hope that MixBox could eventually gain even more effects :)
Thank you @ikmultimedia for adding this module to MixBox!

  • Oh, that is kind of nice. 🙂

  • In case you are wondering, this is modeling a SSL 500-Series 611 DYN:

And yea I agree, if they are going to add modules, this app is going to be increasingly insane.

What great news for an already great app! If they are willing to add modules and maintain stability updates, then the value of this app is insane. Gate expander on the new module awesome! I would dream of so many more possibilities, would love to see a chromatic multi-instrument tuner, maybe a convolution module where you can load your own impulse responses both mono and true stereo, or just adding a “load your own” to the ConvoRoom. Of course more preamps and EQs and dynamics modules, those with home studios and small bus powered interfaces are always looking for better flavors. How about a 500 series style Drum synth?? Octaver? Autotune?

I’ve already gotten great use out of MixBox presets, for example the “acoustic glue drum bus”, “edgy vocal”, or the “modular guitar amp lead 1”.

My question is, we all like the app and how much of a game changer it is, and my ears tell me it’s great, but what does everyone think of the actual quality of these module emulations. Besides the low cost and value, how do they measure up to the best plugins of the same types on desktop and iOS? Because if everyone feels that the fidelity and quality is there, then there is nothing at all to beat this app on iOS. Cheers!

While I haven’t A/B’ed comparable apps I like some ‘dirt’ with the analog emulations. I like that they add character to the track, and help create vibe that can really compliment a performance. This was really the thing iOS needed in major way. I had been asking for a LA2A/3A Compressor for the longest, and could never feel completely comfortable substituting that with other fx prior to mixbox.

I still like certain ‘3rd Party’ effects in the chain, sometimes for their sonic qualities (meaning character, not fidelity) , and sometimes for control over what you dial in. For example BLEASS Delay is an absolute must in my vocal chain, for my uses it just ‘works’ and gives me a very easy workflow.

I’ve recorded several tracks (song vocals) through a very worthy mic set up in iOS, for features for artists who use UAD on desktop and another artist who uses Waves, and no one could had ANY complaints about the iOS Mixbox CS vocals. In fact, the question I keep getting asked is what I used and what the settings were etc, since they like how the vocals sit in the mix (and this is a premix/tracking mix!)

Now a large part of this is experience of course, as I’m not dialing in presets, and have built some vocal chains from scratch. But Mixbox allows me to know with confidence, that my recordings will translate well on different playback sources AND can stand up with high end desktop/UAD setups etc.

For my needs, It is the very best single FX plugin money can buy on iOS, but GM iFX rack is nice also for those on a budget and those on iPhone.

They could’ve IAP’ed this thing like crazy so I’m grateful IK was generous to us!

  • @JoyceRoadStudios IMO Mixbox is great, I especially like the compressors, modulations, and reverbs. However there is one area where does fall short quality-wise and that is aliasing. The distortions are affected but it’s the filters in particular where it’s an audible issue.

I would like IK Multimedia to give us an oversampling option to mitigate this. Then it really will be a five-star app.

Absolutely! Even just having the LA2A/3A module that you can set from scratch is so clutch. The presets across the whole app are mostly great and serve as a reference point for the less experienced, or perhaps even a shortcut for those who are time strapped.

I do like iFX rack a lot, the quality for the budget is certainly there. MixBox overshadows it with much richer routing capabilities, its own visualized metering, and the visualization of each module and its metering is way more satisfying.

👍 seems like a must have addition. I notice some specific modules in iFX rack do offer oversampling option.

You can hear the aliasing quite easily if you use any of the Filter effects.

Here's a sine wave sweep (unaffected) turn the volume down BTW:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/a7dx58r83razypr/Sweep.wav?dl=0

Here's that sine wave sweep run through the Filter C effect with a high cutoff and high resonance:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/im7lpr52kdpd29x/Mixbox aliasing.wav?dl=0

That chirping sound you hear in the second file is audible aliasing. This is what it looks like with the Oscilloscope AU:

Yes but to a much lesser extent, the filters are the worst offenders

I just sent a tweet to ik asking them for oversampling. Tagged this thread as well. So hopefully we hear back.

  • I see it's discounted again. It's still quite expensive but does seem to contain a lot for the $. Just wondering if people regret buying it or if it's deffo worth taking the plunge for all your FX needs!? Ta.

I mean I use it basically on everything I do now. For me it's totally worth it, the question is if you like the analogue / retro style. If you answer that with a yes, you won't regret purchasing it.

As for "all your FX needs", I mean depends. Mixbox is providing more classic style FX, if you are looking for something experimental developers like Bleass are doing a better job. So there is enough room for both if you ask me.

For 50 Bucks its really a steal, so many good plugins and emulation of classic hardware. Remember on Desktop its 350 Bucks. Its worth for the vintage compressors alone in my opinion.

Not to forget, that they seem to add new models.

It's definitely expensive, even when on sale, but I think it delivers a lot of value. I have got more than my money's worth so far

It’s not just an FX rack. The presets alone are worth $80 in that you’re getting a production tutorial of sorts just by examining the settings and FX chains.

@audiblevideo is absolutely correct. The presets alone are shockingly well put together.

I’d buy it at the desktop price and be just as satisfied. 10 years ago this bundle could’ve been priced at $1500 for desktop and still would’ve been ‘worth it’. It is probably the best single FX purchase you could make on iOS.
