OK, so sharing presets from the app and then saving them in the presets folder of MixBox on Windows works. Importing Cubasis projects into Cubase won‘t recognise the plugin, unfortunately.

Zenbeats is probably the best cross-platform daw for this.

Some plugins transfer over perfectly, some don’t. We tested a few out, but this was before mixbox came to iOS

interesting! thanks, didn’t even know this was multi platform. I‘m still salty I did not get the free unlocked Zenbeats last year, I thought I‘d never make music on an iPad ;-)
Someone here who has both Zenbeats and MixBox and would like to try this?

  • How is MixBox on CPU? Do multiple instances add up quickly or does it run fairly lightweight in AUM?

  • New even lower price:

    Until December 7th, apparently.

  • $29.99?? Like actually? This is a gift.

  • Even better than before.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I don’t need Mixbox - the price for Mixbox went down to 30 bucks, I suddently need Mixbox - Me 30 bucks poorer, my iPad Pro 12.9” M1, happier!!

    Great stuff!!

    Thanks!

And, thanks to Jakob Haq for advertising Mixbox!

The video communicates via an assumption of mixing tracks that have already been printed. Its central premise is that you shouldn't run your DAW at higher sample rates but instead rely on oversampling. This works for music that doesn't have a heavy reliance on software instrumentation. Unfortunately many software instruments and fx/processors operate on the assumption that the artist/engineer will be able to utilse higher project-wide sample rates or printing stems via a higher sample rate and then offline dithering the results (taking higher sample rates back to 48k or 41.1k).

From what you have posted I don't think I need MixBox. To be honest, most of your technical talk I really don't understand...except for the bit about offline dithering. I'm quite good at offline dithering. Also online dithering. Dithering in general.

  • I think MixBox is the only app that you need to create a quality mix. Here is my example how it sounds with the guitar. I didn't use any other effects beside MixBox here. And in my opinion it sounds very very good.

I concur…sounds great… though a lot of that is your playing too

@ipadbeatmaking FYI I tried the transfer from iOS to Windows with the free month of Roland cloud: Zenbeats loads the MixBox VST where I used it but unfortunately without the effect modules I had chosen. Still a very nice crossplatform workflow!

  • It's on special at the mo, half price so I think I will avail myself of a copy :)

Thanks for sharing, This is good to know! Maybe saving the mixbox chain as a preset on iOS, sharing the preset with the computer, and reloading it on the desktop side will be a usable workflow?

Excellent. Guitar directly into iPad, no amp??
Best guitar tone I heard from software since....

    I'll bite.

Yes it's Fender Strat-> iRig HD2-> Auria-> MixBox. Also I used Lurssen Mastering Console to raise the volume. But I really impressed what the great set of tools you could find within MixBox!

I'm working on a video on CPU / DSP consumption in AUM and strategies on how to conserve them. So I feel fairly sure to say: It's complicated.

I'm not through with testing, but it seems to depend a lot on the modules you use, they aren't equal in DSP consumption. Some are pretty heavy and will stack up (I presume because of internal AA or something) and some are lightweight and I can run a lot of them without significant impact.

What I found interesting is that in some cases the first instance will let's say consume 10% DSP but more instance won't double the load but increase it slightly.

Overall I would say it's not as leightweight as some standalone plugins but also nothing out of the ordinary. Considering they are running a full hardware emulation I would consider it rather impressive.

  • With regards to CPU utilisation, it really depends on the individual modules in use. Some, such as the tape delay are very expensive, whilst others such as the various EQ modules have a very light CPU hit.

That tape delay sounds so darn good though, worth every % DSP. That is typically something that I would put on a send bus though, but delays are known to be CPU intensive.

The only thing that I like even better is Space Delay from Tracks 5: https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/trspacedelay/?pkey=t-racks-single-space-delay

Agreed. Much as I have other tape delays on iOS, I always turn to the one in MixBox, it’s by far the best on the platform. I do however wonder if IK M could optimise it. It’s also included in the SampleTron 2 fx and it doesn’t appear to use as much CPU.

  • Apparently Mixbox CS is now a 'free' app with IAP...
...I'm currently updating and really hope I don't have to 'buy' the IAP to keep everything...

@ikmultimedia Please explain this 'strategic decision', it's BAD PRACTICE!

    Really?

It hasn't changed here on the U.K App Store as yet.

    Wow.

  • @Samu

    Quick update.
It can still be purchased at half price and it also states that there are now IAP's
which ties in with the CS part of MixBox CS as CS stands for Custom Shop.
