UGGGG. Torn by this. I have had many bad experiences with IK on the desktop back in the day and trying to let that be water under the bridge but I am wary. @echoopera and others I trust on here..... HMMMMMMMM.
What does MixBox have that iFX rack doesn’t? I believe the whole suite in iFX is around $26 and it has bt midi and IR loader. I’m only asking because I’m just now scratching the surface of iFX and now MixBox comes around looking all sexy and new. Is this suite in a league of its own feature wise and emulation model wise, or are there plenty of competitors?
Certainly.

I have my own doubts about this... I even started a thread to (hopefully) discuss about it. More of a moral question.
MixBox - Big Players coming to iOS. Happy or scared?.
True and true.
Found a very entertaining review here: https://everythingrecording.com/ik-multimedia-mixbox-the-holy-grail/ it’s for desktop but we’re assuming it’s the exact same. Right?.
I asked before but got no answer... does MixBox iOS do sidechain?. How so?. Any daw?. That’d be huge,
Cheers
Have the same doubts For guitar amps and fxs I have THU, for the rest iFX Rack and NuRackFX. But MixBox looks so sexy and pro. I am also afraid that this introductory price ends. The pressure is high

@tahiche
Yes, it does, in hosts that support multichannel AUv3, f.e AUM.
I've found this info about price:

So. I’m on quarantine since today for having a contact with a positive COVID person. I went to my house in the countryside, and I will be alone for 10 days...(i hope not to get ill). Is this a worth buying or the bugs make it unpleasant to use it?
I just got iFX Rack and enjoy what it can do with only a few modules. But iFX is based on relatively old (10 years) open source VST components, with an excellent GUI added. MixBox should be using newer (better?) algorithms, it claims to emulate some of those classic modules, and it has a nice GUI also. So, this sounds like a fair price for the work done by IK. Is it (a lot) better? YMMV.
Edit: MixBox is definitely bigger, with 70 modules. It's also huge for an FX at 580 MB download. That may due to some data-heavy modules like convolution reverb.
iFX and THU are both developed with guitars in mind. Not familiar with NuRack, but what I’ve seen it’s more of a creative fx kit.
For me these will be useful for mixing mostly - it seems efficient enough and I really like the workflow and the sound - but the included fx selection can cover way more than mixing.
Glad I didn’t invest much in FF or RRS bundles - I prefer this consolidated UI approach.
One thing - I can’t figure out how to rearrange modules in a rack. Tried dragging to no avail - is this possible in order to change effect order? This is (sort of) important to me.
@BCKeys With iPadOS 13.6 you can't be running the latest GarageBand version right?
iPadOS14.3 should drop in a few weeks time and that might be the time to update...
I bought it and so far I love it!
Auria users:
This can help to get around one of the main limitations in Auria, which is the inability to re-order effects. With MixBox you can create complex effects chains and re-order them just using one insert slot in Auria, which for sound design is super-useful. Also this allows you to use more than 4 inserts in Auria too, which again can be really useful.
Sidechaining should work in Auria BTW, although I haven't tested it yet.
This is something I was wondering about! Thanks for clarifying. Chaining multiple effects in one rack as per one effect slot in AP or anywhere else is a major + for me.
@JoyceRoadStudios It has several emulations that are desirable — 1176, Pultec, etc etc
Since this seems like it might be specific to your setup (could be the iOS/GarageBand version but very well could be something else) I would recommend reporting this to our support team directly so they can look at it directly with you.
On the topic of the dropdowns, the team is aware and are looking into that already.
Sound on Sound on MixBox: "Sounds excellent, genuinely useful and excellent value for money"
"MixBox offers a lot of processing for your cash"
@JoyceRoadStudios I am weak, finally bought. It looks promising for vocals, drums and overall production/mixing. But I've also tested factory presets for guitars and I am very disappointed. Typical Amplitube/BiasFX digital sound from a few years ago. THU or Nembrini play in a completely different league on iOS.
So, as I thought it will be good for all except guitars
Thank you!
When I saw this late last night I was kind of amazed. it looks awesome. I just dropped some dough this past week though, so probably gonna pass. what’s the verdict on the quality of the fx?
It’s currently 33% off at $39.99 so will go up to $59.99 at some point...
Do you know if the Tonestack AU Will be an update or separate app?
My first comment after purchase is how clean it sounds!
I wish I did.
Presumably it will be a separate app.
A lot of development must be going into it.
Yes I’m not surprised, when you have “guitar” and “cabinet” emulations and presets in these rack type plugins, they’re doing more of a digital preamp type sound, like when you go guitar direct in the studio. IFX rack also has guitar and cab rackmounts which I don’t use. A lot of plugins have guitar presets which are basically eq shaped and saturarion and filtering added. Proper guitar amp sims are more realistic, not only because of better cabinet emulation or the use of IRs, but because of more guitar specific non-linear technology and response. However something like Gain Stage Vintage Clean for guitar or Nembrini PSA1000 for bass have done an amazing job with how good they can sound within a preamp type plugin. You can even get Preamp Rigs from TH-U, and while they sound great, they definitely have more of that digital preampy sound. So compared to proper guitar amp sims, rackmount “guitar” fx presets don’t really cut it, and they are totally reminiscent of older more digital sounding guitar apps as you say.
...but try MixBox for mixing guitars and from that perspective I think it will shine as it does in more of a mixing and/or sound design context.
