Very cool update.
I'm now off to the App Store to leave a positive review as a "thank you" to Jonathan.
Riffler is hanging when I try to save
Excellent update... Thanks.
it deserves payment.
Best of 2022..
Riffler outputs MIDI.
I fed it into "Atom 2" in AUM and made an 8 bar loop. Atom 2 can export MIDI files.
So, this means the rhythmic richness of Riffler can feed all your favorite MIDI importing apps... for me , today that was StaffPad. MIDI import saves a ton of pencil work in Staffpad.
The update to Riffler has a wealth of genres and tones... I also saved the audio output of Riffler in AUM and import the audio into Staffpad to get a decent guitar sound to go with the
MIDI tracks using Staffpad instruments. Guitars (i.e. electric guitars) just don't get much consideration in an Orchestral context but people want to v=break down these genres and just combine the best of all worlds into a personal "genre" that only seeks "good music" and not some record store bin of one style.
Hope everybody enjoys the update! Please let me know if anybody has any problems.
Somebody else has mentioned this too, I'll get it fixed ASAP.
A workaround for now would be to run Riffler inside a host then to save the host project rather than trying to save from Riffler.
Would love to see some videos with the new UI.
Amazing update @jon_bell ! Instant riffage and amazing fun with other apps inside AUM. Even though I play guitar I absolutely love this update! (There is no way I could play some of those riffs anyway!)
Hello,
I updated the app on my iPhone SE, erased it and reinstalled it.
Nothing worked. The app shuts down every Time I press on play on this unit.
But… it work great on Ipad. Congratulations and thank your for your generosity.
Cheers!
First generation SE from 2016? I'm working on that bug right now. I think it's because the SE is mono and Riffler is expecting a stereo output.
In the meantime it should work ok on the SE inside an AUv3 host like GarageBand.
+1
Also, @jon_bell, would it be possible (without too much work 'cause it's not absolutely important...) to add a play head in order to visualize where we are in the riff ? If so, it would be very welcome here
Thanks again and again, I LOVE your app !
Yup, it's on the to-do list. I've had it working but ran out of time to get it finished for the release. I'd like to add loop points too in future but that's going to be a bit more work.
Cool ! Thank you ! 👍🏻
G r e a t !
Great update! The Auv3 with midi output is awesome!
The new UI is very well laid out. Great update, thanks!
Agreed. Amazing app, so good to have it as auv3. Will do a walkthrough for sure
Possibly stupid question: the AUv3 of this, should that show up as a midi AU?
Riffler is an audio instrument AUv3. You can send MIDI to other tracks but it depends on the host.
AUM, Cubasis 3, Beatmaker3, Loopy Pro, Audiobus 3, apeMatrix and Drambo are all compatible with MIDI out.
GarageBand and Nanostudio aren’t compatible and only feature audio with no MIDI. In this case the MIDI would have to be exported as a file then imported to a new track.
I’m going add a guide for each host in the help section once I’m finished with a bug fix update.
@jon_bell i realize that the name of the app is RIFF-ler with an emphasis on “short” phrases, but is there a series of settings that would give a convincing melodic solo?
I have other ways in other apps to do this. I was just curious
Regards
The app is brilliant
Still looking for that secret donate button
@audiblevideo - have you tried the Endless Mode in Setting? It plays endless variations of the created riffs
@jon_bell Thanks, I was looking for it in the midi AUs in NS2, should probably have read the app description better.
There is a MIDI send option in NS2 but I can't get it to send the Riffler MIDI data. My guess is it will send MIDI data that comes from an external source like a keyboard but won't send MIDI data created by the track itself. I spent quite a lot of time trying to get it to work because I really like the synths in NS2 but the best I could do was to create a riff I liked, export the MIDI then import it back to the synth track.
I was sure there was a tip jar somewhere, am I wrong about that?
Thanks! If you load up the "soft rock hi" presets in the "kits" category or the "short solo" preset in the "lead" category they should give a melodic solo sound.
When I hit save in riffler the plug will play the current riff but do nothing else
Riffler has been my favorite app ever since it came out. Inspirational, customizable, and the best guitar sounds on ios.
Curious BTW what other apps you find good for generating guitar solos 👍
Sorry to hear you're having problems. I'm working on a bug fix right now, hopefully will be submitting it to the AppStore today.
