I've been following on tik tok but it sounds like twitter has more activity?

There is a bit more activity on twitter. :)

  • Top favorite app! Love it!

  • Nice!

Had a weird thought at work ( still there). I was wondering if someone using the new note editor in version 2 could create a riff that could satisfy the tone match function for Bias FX 2. I really like the default guitar sound but I think it would be interesting to send the dry output through the Bias FX 2 tone matcher and see if it could sound more like a Strat, a Les Paul, a Tele, etc.
    Just a thought.

  • You are amazing @jon_bell ! +1 that I hope you include a tip jar. Super excited for this update! Not to be “that guy” but did Ableton Link make it in? I can wait and rely on my own timing, if not. 😉

No Ableton Link in this version but I'm still hoping to add it in future.

but if the updated Riffler can be hosted as an AUv3 then it will sync with the host app (like AUM, or Loopy, etc.)??

It runs nicely in AUM and Loopy so that would be a good workaround.

  • Looks immense! Looking forward to the update

  • ahhh the editing ! i can’t wait! that’s awesome!

I was hoping to have it finished a bit sooner but I'm aiming for the end of this month now.

Hey its August…. Soon now? Pant pant…drool….tail wagging.

  • Yea, I'm chomping at the bit for this new version.

Hey its August…. Soon now? Pant pant…drool….tail wagging.

Quick update on where I'm at:

Most features are now finished, I've got a very useable app now. There are a few bugs to sort out then it will be ready for beta testing next week.

After the beta test the remaining things to do are:
    • The standalone app needs finishing. Hopefully won't take long as I just need to calculate the tempo and position myself rather than relying on the host DAW.

    • I need to sort out support for different sample rates as if the DAW is set to anything other than 44100 it plays at the wrong speed. Again, hopefully won't take too long.

    • The save file system needs adding. This is the final big job. Probably will take 1-2 weeks.

    • I need to write a new help page, record a few tutorials and update the App Store page with new screenshots and videos. Should only take a day or two.

Then it will be final bug fixes and polish and it should be ready for release. Hopefully there won't be any problems getting it approved by Apple.

I've decided to postpone adding a song mode (being able to arrange several different riffs together to make a complete song) but I will adding it in an update shortly after release. It will take a few weeks work to get finished so I decided it was best not to delay the whole thing for the sake of one feature.

Thank you for the update on your progress.
From the previews we’ve seen, this looks amazing!

That sound wonderful. Thanks for your effort.

I would like to add a few time factors to possibly save you some stress and some angry people. ;)

Sounds complicated to me, so maybe 1 week?

    • I need to sort out support for different sample rates as if the DAW is set to anything other than 44100 it plays at the wrong speed. Again, hopefully won't take too long.

This sound like a heavy part too, another 2 weeks?

    • The save file system needs adding. This is the final big job. Probably will take 1-2 weeks.

    …maybe plan 2 weeks…

    • I need to write a new help page, record a few tutorials and update the App Store page with new screenshots and videos. Should only take a day or two.

I think its more comfortable for you when when you say 5 days

Then it will be final bug fixes and polish and it should be ready for release. Hopefully there won't be any problems getting it approved by Apple.

So another 5 days + 5 days for approving, we all know apple. ;)

    Thats a good solition.

So we can say that we should wait until the end of September. I know a lot of people will hate me. But I do not care. ;) However, if it comes earlier than planned, everyone will be happy.

I am very happy to add a multiple of the time than is actually necessary in order to be able to finish earlier in the end. So everyone is happy, you because you finish sooner and the others because they get what they wanted sooner. I always do such exaggerated time management and it always work.

Yeah, I think I may fall victim to Hofstadter's law if I'm not careful!
"It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law."

I'm anxious not to disappoint users and I don't want to rush to get something out too early that's full of bugs and lacks polish.

My main concern is users losing their saved riffs. They should be safe when people install the update but it's a big worry. :#

I'm also slightly concerned about the Apple approval process as I'm completely replacing the existing codebase using a different programming language and also adding an AUv3 to an existing app. Hopefully it won't cause trouble but I know how fussy Apple can be.

  • Wow! Thanks for the update. In the mean time I’ll just play more guitar. Sounds like a bigger job than I thought!

  • @jon_bell Do you need beta testers? Happy to assist with that, if so! Very excited for this but definitely want you to take your time to get it right and feel good about what you’ve made. It’s a fantastic app!

  • Thanks for the update. Loving this app awesome app!

@jon_bell Please dont worry about this. As I think this is one of the most amazing apps that have come out in a long time!!!!!! It’s fantastic the way it is and you deserve more$$$$.

Definitely! If anybody wants to help out please let me know.

As I mentioned, the save file system doesn't work yet so you would temporarily lose access to any saved riffs you've got at the moment.

If it will help, I would definitely volunteer to be a beta tester.
iOS version 15.6. iPad mini 5th generation.
    I have TestFlight installed.

I would be happy to beta test. I love this app and if I can help in anyway it would be great. iPad Pro 2021, iOS 15.6, TestFlight installed.

  • happy to test
    iPad Air 2020 (4th Gen) 15.5

  • Bought Riffler this morning and i am amazed what it is capable of.
A big plus for the amount of parameters that are tweak able.
A nice addition would be guitar progressions with a bass line at the same time, but separate midi/wave-files.
It is also capable as an idea generator for synths (midi)

  • I would also like to test it Jon, have TestFlight. Report things to you only.

  • Happy to help with testing too.

  • Thanks, MANY THANKS for such a fantastic app and all the efforts you put in it @jon_bell !
I almost feel "ashamed" not to have enough time at the moment to help on the beta test... I love your app !

  • Would like to join beta testing. iPad Pro 2017
