Released: ToneBoosters Flowtones - virtual analog synthesizer

DJBDJB
edited August 2021 in General App Discussion

Thanks to its true virtual analog (VA) synthesis engine, the use of analog-modelled non-linear filters and extensive modulation options, Flowtones sounds warmer and more analog than digital romplers and wavetable-based synths.

Audio demos and documentation: https://www.toneboosters.com/tb_flowtones_v1.html
Free demo version for macOS and Windows: https://www.toneboosters.com/download.html

True virtual analog synthesis features:
* 4 VCO architecture (two voice layers with two VCOs each).
* 36 analog VCO waveforms featuring all classic waveforms and more.
* All VCO waveforms support pulsewidth modulation.
* Full stereo unison mode for each VCO independently.
* Noise and subharmonic oscillators for each VCO.
* Unique ring and self-modulation matrix.
* High-quality, non-linear filters (VCF) with over 30 filter types, including unique multi-resonance filters.

Modulation features:
* Four LFOs with 30 waveforms each.
* LFOs can modulate other LFOs, including themselves.
* Three additional envelope generators.
* Quick access to modulation strengths through context menus.
* Wide range of modulation signal paths available.
* LFOs can produce noise as waveform to randomly modulate other parameters; for example to simulate slight variations in analog filter parameters as they happen in analog circuits.

Pro-grade effects:
* Studio-quality reverb, delay, and chorus effects.
* Unique formant filter to add vocal character.
* Analog and digital distortion / bit crushing effects.
* Master equalizer and peak limiter for final touch.
* Non-linear power supply simulation for authentic interaction between notes.

Step sequencer:
* Fully integrated, intuitive step sequencer.
* Can trigger chords and note series.
* Can run asynchronously or synchronously to the host.
* Smart copy/paste of note series to improve workflow.
* Smart zoom: edit fine details while keeping an overview over the full sequence.

Presets and intelligent randomizer:
* Flowtones comes with hundreds of presets to spark your creativity.
* Intelligent randomizer to explore endless sound synthesis possibilities.

Haha indeed.... Over 30 pages for your reading pleasure

It looks great like all of their other plugins but does it offer anything “new”? I should probably hold off considering I literally bought Tal-u-no-x just moments ago. Hmm….

  • Instabought :D

There's a lot of movement going on with some of those presets. Brilliant, time to dive in...

  • Wow! That sounds really great! Have to play with it tomorrow.

I honestly appreciate that, your manuals are very thorough and well written

  • That's a fantastic price for desktop.

They still refer to it as Polyphony in the description on the website...

  • Is it polyphonic or just mono/duophonic?

  • Sounds fantastic. Also, how did you know to release it the day before payday?

  • Barely touched this yet but couldn’t help but notice the included eq and sequencer. FX section will be TB quality too. Very exciting

  • Sounds great fabulous…. Though small font size in letterbox AU has set a world record 😊

Polyphonic, with the option of two mono modes:

The “Polyphonic” setting affects the way incoming MIDI data is processed. In “Polyphonic” mode, TB Flowtones synthesizes polyphonically, in “Mono retriggered” mode, it synthesizes monophonically, where each new note retriggers the single voice and in “Mono legato” mode, it synthesizes monophonically, but no note retriggering occurs, allowing for sliding of pitches.

  • After ten minutes exploring I think I'll be spending a lot of time with this. Superb.

  • How is it on the DSP meter? I'm hoping it's like all the other Tonebooster apps, light as a Japanese sunrise....

  • Does it support MIDI Learn? I can’t see any evidence of this from App Store screenshots or the manual.

Oh sheeeiit. Combined with my new interface and mic that just arrived after a frustrating battle with FedEx, I’m about to be rockin tonight. uncorks whiskey

  • How much chaos can I make with it?

  • I don't think we have a really good formant AUfx plugin on iOS... could we get this to also work as AUfx? Got some samples in BM3 that would be nice to pass through this.

Really nice, best I’ve heard on iOS up there close to the Moogs as far as getting that real “analog” thump on those bass notes. Feels like it has some physical weight to it.

Thanks! Think this will be my next purchase👍

  • Instabought! Loving the rich, detailed and vibrant sound already. A real bargain at £10.99, generous factory preset library, and the randomiser has come up with some cracking sounds within 60 seconds of first trying it!

  • Great work, very pleased. Definitely didn’t disappoint. I guess it’s way too soon to start asking for features so I’ll wait 😂😂😂
But in the meantime there’s a lot of synth for the asking price

Yah a little early. I mean have some class. Unless you want it to also act as an AUfx plugin for the fx (mainly for the formant), then fire away!

lol, that would be cool. Seriously though, besides midi mapping and being able to draw notes in the sequencer with my Apple Pencil I really can't think of anything else, Im about to buy the desktop version too

  • Sweet sweet randomizer…!
