  • Am I dense or is there not a way to collapse the in-app keyboard when AUv3?

  • edited August 2021

    Yes, DJB, I forgot to add that the formant section is indeed awesome, the highlight of the synth to me. I was easily able to approximate the infamous breathy female srarrr sample from the old Fairlight.

    I feel driven to give it more time this morning since the UI is so friendly.

    Same for me. Also adding a hold/latch and pitch/modulate option would be cool.

    Furthermore there seems to be a problem with AUM and the inbuilt keyboard. The tones are off by 1 chord. No transpose is configured.

    Working fine in Cubasis 3.

    @DJB On the iPhone / iPad (in stand-alone) the lower part of the keyboard is a bit 'unresponsive'.

    This is most likely caused by iOS and its 'swipe gestures' to bring up the dock.
    The issue can be avoided by enabling what is called 'edge protection'.

    Add Code below to your UIViewController

    -(UIRectEdge)preferredScreenEdgesDeferringSystemGestures
    {
    return UIRectEdgeAll;
    }

    This is not an issue in the AUv3 when the host has edge protection enabled (which most hosts have).

    I do have one UI suggestion.

    The 'double tap' to reset a parameter to its default value works fine but 'conflicts' with the tap to bring up the modulation menu.

    So when doing a double-tap to reset a value the menu stays open for knobs that have it.

    Suggestion here is to not show the menu on double-tap, or add a delay (tap'n'hold') to show the menu.

    Take Care & Thanks for an awesome synth :)
    /Samuel

    I agree pressing and holding on a button to bring up the menu would be better than double tap. Subverting widely adopted conventions for software synths without a good reason or clear advantage for doing so just undermines expectations.

    It was only released a few hours ago. I guess we're all still playing with it ...

    That's no excuse! Y'all know that my needs are more important than your needs. Now, snap to it!

    This is just AUM and Flowtones using two different octave numbering conventions, none of which is correct since there's no MIDI standard for it

  • Recorded several short pieces using Flowtones so far… this is an intriguing synth full of such variety. It’s a bit dizzying.

    @DJB for those of us who would like to create preset banks for the community, would it be possible to implement the import/export of preset banks so that an entire bank can be saved and then imported in one go?

    This, please. I'm already secretly counting on Richard and Spider to make this an even more essential tool in the iOS music arsenal. 🤷

    Same here. Sharing and importing presets is the cost of doing business these days for a new synth. ;)

    Yeah, I thought so. Thanks for clarifying, that there‘s no such thing as a MIDI standard for the octave numbering.

  • @DJB Would really like to see modulation on the xvco1 & 2 sliders, to give more options for evolving sounds.

    I love it, but I’ve noticed one issue particularly when twiddling and sound designing. In standalone, not every time but a decent amount when adjusting a knob or parameter and holding down the keys at the same time, the keys and sound just cutout, and you have to repress them. This is a definite issue, but I’m sure TB will handle it. I’m on iOS 14.7.2 I think, the most current one. Ipad 6.

    Haven’t read thread, anyone else noticed this?

    Is there a manual?

    And here I thought it was cutting out because my iPad surface wasn’t clean enough. LOL.

  • OK. Who will be the first to post an entire song using nothing but this app?

  • Has happened to me as well, the cutting out. Other than that damn what a synth! I’m mostly sample based these days but the organic tones coming out of this thing are sweeter than cake

  • I stayed up waaaay too late last night playing this synth. I only got four hours sleep. :)

    My wife has a package coming from FedEx, or so we think. The package has been all over the U.S. already, 16 cities (near then far then near then far...) in 14 days.

    I think that would work. Long tap to bring up the modulation window; double tap to reset to the default value. Anything else works as a normal slider.... Let's have a crack at that!

    That’s absurd. My problem over the last year with them is that every package I get arrives on time, gets scanned onto a truck for delivery, status says out for delivery….and then I guess the truck just sits there for an extra 3, 4, 5 days…all the way up to 2 weeks, while I have to be home each extra day during the delivery window. Worse, I live 20 minutes from the hub they all come into so it makes zero sense. Next time I’m just gonna have them hold my package at a FedEx Office and see if that works.

    Goodie!

    You might catch a few more ideas from @jakoB_haQ 's live stream when he messes around with the app :sunglasses:

    (It's entertaining to watch, keep it playing in the background during work hours).

    Saving presets is not super clear and some issues accessing the modulation parameters.

    It's easy (but somewhat hidden) to double-tap on the name to change it but then we need to go to the hamburger menu to save the preset.

    If/when you add the arrows to switch presets, add a 'save preset' icon there as well next to the browse icon.

    I do not know what the 'to-do' list for this app holds but being able to create folders for user presets could be handy for preset sharing?

    Just about the only synthesis features I miss are hard-sync and ring-modulation (Ie. multiply the output of the oscillators).

    And if possible add a few modulators similar to the ones is TB Dual VCF if that's not totally out of scope.

    Congrats on making a synth with character that sounds like nothing else out there!

    Cheers!
    /Samuel
