Yes, there is a threshold recording setting.
So I tested this out again, and GeoShred does indeed work as a midi input, as long as the auv3 isn’t a SWAM instrument. I assumed GeoShred wasn’t working as an input at all, because I mostly use SWAM instruments when jamming; so I hadn’t tried any other combination. I have tried with 6 different SWAM auv3s, and have no sound output so it’s an issue specific to those plugins and GeoShred hosted in LP.
interesting.
@Michael : i just tried and am finding this to be true. sending midi from other midi controller AUv3 to SWAM is working for me but not from GeoShred -- and I tried several midi out settings from it -- and I am seeing the MIDI in the midi monitor. The same GeoShred settings to SWAM with the same settings works fine in AUM.
I wonder if there's some complication surrounding the MPE Configuration Message, which is an RPN used to specify the number of MIDI channels used by a zone. Does GeoShred send it? Does LP expect it? Does SWAM expect it? Aside from using multiple channels, this is the only difference between MPE and ordinary MIDI.
I’m sure this has been asked and answered but I was unable to find the answer.
Can LoopyPro show a battery meter for your iPad? I will be using LoopyPro for live performance and don’t want dead battery surprises
Not at this time. But that has been requested during the beta. If you don’t see it on The Roadmap be sure to go to the Ideas tab there to request it.
Leaving the ‘just the audio’ bit aside, I believe there’s an easier way to record material before the downbeat.
Try setting the sync for count-in to Master and turn the ‘record intro’ setting on. This will (I definitely do this a lot and I think these are the settings) also record everything you play before the downbeat, and play it back at the right time in the cycle after the loop has been recorded.
So, you can hit record at any point during the previous cycle (which is handy to prepare yourself), and while Loopy Pro is waiting for the sync to start, it will also record anything you play beforehand and fade it into the resulting loop. Ideal for recording vocals early, for example.
My usual settings are to have count in and out set to Master, ‘record intro’ on and usually ‘record tail’ on. Picks up most of my use cases, and timing recording is much easier than having to pick out a custom count-in arrangement partway through a cycle.
Decided to (finally) take a proper look at The Sequencer in LP and did that most unusual thing and started with The Manual, but unfortunately there's only a 'This Section Coming Soon' message. Can anyone point me to a decent video resource/tut for the sequencer section?
I haven't watched this one but it says it has an intro to the sequencer.
The sequencer is pretty straightforward but has a few rough edges still to be worked out.
Appreciated. I will wander off and see what that nice Mister Leo has to say....
some edges should be worked out with the next upcoming release (1.0.6).
i did not find anything in 1.0.6 (latest build) that bothers me.
Good to hear. It seems simple but good. Nothing wrong with that.
Is there anything going on as regards opening previous Loopy HD projects (of which it appears I have a lot of) in the new territory or is that not really a thing?
Not a thing. You can vote for it on the roadmap.
Thanks. If you guys who have been deeply involved have not seen a value then I will happily defer and just think of bringing stuff in loop by loop etc. Was just wondering in case I was missing a clever trick etc. Thanks again. It really IS a lovely piece of work....
I only had a few hd projects to move and they weren’t very involved. But I can see why someone would find project conversion handy. One trick. You can drag loopy hd projects into AudioShare, rename the project to get rid of the suffix and then go back to loopy pro and import all the loops at once.
Thanks for this. I was wondering the same thing as @JohnnyGoodyear.
Wow, nice workaround. Will use this.
@espiegel123 et al:
Once I've transfered the projects/loops from HD to Pro can you think of a good reason to keep the old dog, much as I hate to put him down...I guess what I'm asking is: Are there sufficient or unique benefits which would see you hold on to the original app?
Well ... it is orange.
I haven’t deleted Loopy HD yet…but I haven’t found a need to use it instead of Loopy Pro. You might want to wait to delete HD until you are confident all the projects are running as you like.
Good advice. The trouble is one never knows. It still burns my heart that Earhoof has been deleted from the store and even though I was a longtime user/purchaser/lover I can no longer reinstall. Curse the day I put it to one side, safe in the foolish certainty it would always be there waiting for me...
What I have done is moved my actual Loopy HD projects to my archival hard drive and have Loop HD still on my iPad -- since it takes up almost no space.
I have a naive question that possibly has been answered already. If so, please point me to the answer:
Is it possible in LP to connect a MIDI generator (such as DrumComputer) to an AU instrument (FAC Drumkit) and then to hear some audio without involving any of the clips?
When I try this, I need to record a clip before I hear audio. LP seems to support multiple workflows, but I'm failing to understand if what I'm trying to do is possible, and if so how.
You can definitely do that. You don’t need to record a clip. Can you post a screenshot of the mixer screen with the FX section expanded? Without any details of what you have set up, it’s hard to guess at the problem.
Make sure you’ve set the bpm as well. The play button does nothing until you’ve set the bpm, which is usually set by the first recorded loop, but you can just set it manually.
Bingo! I should have mentioned that Play was not responding. The tempo prerequisite was the missing piece of the puzzle.
Cool. I suggest doing something about this for new users, to improve discoverability. The play button does not appear to be disabled, and yet it does not respond. Tapping on the mysterious three dashes brings up a dialog where it is not obvious what needs to be done. And yet, touching the tempo spectrum unlocks my goal.
@michael: maybe an alert if you press play when no tempo has been set and no recording primed?
Yep this caught me out for a bit at the start. It’s what made me think of it 😉
That’s weird! It’s meant to do that, but I just tried it and it didn’t pop up anything. I guess I’ve broken it more recently! Will fix
I have a short audio clip recorded in a (orange) loop. When I press Play the mixer shows audio level but I hear nothing, and the output channel shows nothing. If I drag that clip into the next (yellow) it works fine. Attached 2 screenshots show this.
It was working fine yesterday but perhaps I changed something inadvertently.
Any ideas what I might check?
