All of this noise because of an idiot who couldn’t take a joke and gave her well-trained husband the signal to attack an innocent comedian.

Nice bit of misogyny and victim blaming, you’re a real piece of work.

@el_bo : you have totally misrepresented what I said.

Certainly not intentional. Apologies if that's the case. I think, perhaps, my intention of avoiding the naming of a specific member has left my post a bit too vague, and could be seen as in contention of points you have (or have not) made.

Or...I may have just misrepresented you. If you could point to where you I've done this, I can clarify what was actually meant, or correct my post in the case of you being right.

    Cheers!

Re-read what I wrote and your reply. You imply that I said a lot of things that I didn't.

My point was about listening and trying to understand where someone is coming from rather than attacking and being defensive -- and suggesting that if you disagree with someone that you can make an effort to respond with a good faith effort to increase understanding.

Chris Rock made an innocent joke about a bald spot.

Jada gave the signal to Will.

Will stopped laughing at the joke and attacked Chris Rock, the victim.

    That simple.
    Nothing deeper.

    Your facts are skewed

1 you don’t know wether CR knew she was ill or not so you’ve no idea if the joke was made innocently.
(Unlikely I believe considering the media coverage her illness has had. )

    1. I’ve seen no footage of a signal if you’ve a clip please feel free to post it.

    2. WS laughed then then attacked CR the for reasons only known to himself at this point.

So in conclusion the only party who appears to be innocent is JPS.

CR potentially shares some responsibly for his attack as he should have realised that insulting a man’s wife is a risky thing to do. (Don’t believe me ? Go out and try it in the real world and please video and share the footage.)

WS struck CR which is wrong but depending on your point of view possibly understandable.

I don’t expect a reasoned or sensible reply as your posts seem to show you think juvenile humour is the pinnacle of debate.

I'm not seeing the link between the awful treatment of the black community as a whole, both historically and currently, and my not being allowed to have an opinion on this Oscars event. perhaps you could walk me through it.

Again with the misrepresentation of what’s been said, NOBODY said you can’t have an opinion.
Just that if it’s being expressed in a public forum there’s a chance to be called out on it by those with a more informed viewpoint.

If that happens it’s not your “free speech” being curtailed or cancel culture simply people pointing out where blind spots may be.

    Patronising much?

Sounds much like the Don’t tell don’t ask policy of the us armed forces or the Catholic Church’s it’s ok to have gay feelings as long as you don’t act on them.

Not what I’m saying at all and a complete misrepresentation of what is written.

Let me ask you, do you think all opinions carry equal weight ?

    In a democracy yes

I’m sorry but that is nonsense…

So if for example you have a tax problem , and your next door neighbour on one side is a Dr and the on the other side is an accountant.

You think both their opinions on the problem carry equal weight ?

So should only those with a degree in politics have a vote? Or an income over a certain amount?

He obviously does not mean that. His meaning is clear: not all opinions are equally valid. Everyone in a free society may have an equal RIGHT to an opinion and to an express that opinion, but it does not mean that every person's opinion is equally likely to be correct.

Yes to this. I may have an opinion as to what's wrong with the plumbing in my house, but I'm absolutely going to give more weight to the opinion of the plumber on what they think is wrong.

It seems to me that recent posts here provide (inadvertently, I guess) ample demonstration that "cancel culture” has no special meaning and doesn’t refer to some new phenomenon that needs a new coinage. It just telegraphs the speaker’s attitude.

Word’s are often clumsy tools, who knows someday we may learn the language of thought, then we may come to truly know the mirror image.

Lol, @knewspeak, if we could read each other’s minds we’d be in even deeper trouble.

I don’t think we’ll be around to see it, but in time I think it’s highly possible, change is guaranteed, that’s nature.

You know, I really question this “illness” factor. There is a scale to illness. My partner exwife was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I feel pretty safe in saying that’s an illness. Losing your hair where you still look beautiful bald and can easily afford a 10k wig, where there is no pain or progression toward incapacitation, loss of adl and/ or death…. Well, alopecia seems more like an inconvenience.

But we live in a world where the rich can lick themselves silly for the terrible deals life has dealt them. Take one Chloe Kardashian, who when describing an upcoming nose job, spoke of what courage it is taking her to have the bravery to attempt the mountain of fortitude her nose job will require.

I think in JPS’s case using her “illness” as an explanatory poultice and rationale that leads to criminal violence is an example of pretty uncritical thinking.

Well, illness exists on a sliding scale. And yeah, as distressing as it might be for the sufferer, Alopecia ain't Cancer...or Alzheimers (Sorry for your news, man).

And yes...JPS does look beautiful with a shaved head. Which circles back to the joke. Demi Moore looked effin' badass as G.I Jane. Some might even suggest the comparison was flattering.

Of course, my opinion of her beauty and feeling about the joke don't take away her right to feel upset, but just offering a different perspective for those who think the stimulus justified the reaction.

Nice way to prove my point, it’s funny how the those always opposed to PC/Cancel Culture/etc who cry about it “chokes debate” are always the ones who resort to name calling and juvenile behaviour.
I’m sure your mother/partner/etc is really proud of the man your are…
