Words can start fires, figuratively speaking. So can finding fault with someone else’s statement only after you’ve added necessary details and assumptions that are entirely of your own creation, don’t you think?

  • Words can figuratively start fires. Especially when those words consist of assumptions you've added to someone else's statement in order to find fault with it, don't you think? It's poor argumentation/comprehension at best, bad faith communication at worst.

But perhaps a better analogy could be that words can be triggers - to someone else's gun. Or sparks that can set everything on fire. Those analogies would be valid, I think.

If this casual misogyny you’re referencing is something you’re attributing to me, I am left with several questions about your prejudices and assumptions. If it’s not directed at me, you can skip the rest

Let’s start with my first q.

You seem to be assuming that the cutie down the street I hypothetically describe is a woman. Am I right? Why this assumption? Certainly without it, a charge of misogyny against me is not supported by evidence, right?

I won’t pepper you with the other questions yet, I’ll just wait on your answer to this one which I assume won’t be forthcoming in any defensible or coherent form.

    Your turn. :)

Let the battle comnense! I'm a philosophy grad too, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this debate develops. Well spotted about Ervin's casual assumption that you must surely be straight! They schooled you well!

(Calls Ervin to the Headteacher's office - nearly said headmaster there but managed to catch myself in time - grabs popcorn)

    @gavinski Well, bi at least.

I would love to have a good old philosophy back-and-forth. Maybe not here, as they generally devolve into what appears to outsiders either nonsense or wankery. (Maybe in the 2023 App Sales thread, which apparently has no restrictions, and that's just a joke.)

Plus, presumably as a fellow philosophy student, you also understand the difference between an argument and a fight. Not everyone appreciates that distinction.

(I can't think of a real point of disagreement we've had that would be adequate for the exercise of our obviously mighty powers of ratiocination, but one can be found if needed!)

@edit: I see you weren't offering yourself as a combatant. Boohoo...

So appalling that no one should wait for the slow wheels of EU justice to catch up with a criminal like me.

I must be stopped by direct vigilante force before my words can be misrepresented again. Until then, there's no telling how much harm a wildly contorted version of my opinions might cause.

That’s one I haven’t thought of for a long time. I haven’t seen that movie since it came out. Didn’t the same guy make How to Get a Head in Advertising? I’d watch that one again.

@Gavinski… not much of a movie watcher at all, am I. These days, unless I’m in a theater I can’t watch a movie without instantly dipping into the internet for some answer to a question the movie reminded me of. And after an hour and a half I’m not really watching a movie, rather one is on in the background while I have disappered down a rabbit hole. There are a handful of movies that grip from start to finish however.* I should watch Withnail, though — it’s mentioned favorably often enough by people with otherwise solid opinions, so….

    • i’ll continue this on some general interest thread here at audio bus, since I am indeed going for afield of the topic

Hahahaha. @GUB when you're having a day where you feel strong enough to put your phone away for 90 mins, go treat yourself to Withnail and I. If nothing else, you'll get a lifetime supply of witty quotes from it - as well as the best ever workaround in events of being caught drink driving 😂

@Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr can't remember of they had the same director, but Richard E Grant certainly puts in fine performances in both

Bruce Robinson also did the great How to Get Ahead in Advertising. I haven’t seen it in years but remember loving it as well. He also wrote the Killing Fields and Return To Paradise which are both great. Interesting and sparse filmography.

  • He did The Rum Diary too. Based Hunter S Thompson’s only novel. An underrated movie

Apparently there’s a website somewhere that gives instructions on constructing a Camberwell Carrot using the specified number of skins.

Most threads on here usually branch out into different conversations, nothing wrong with that. And you’ll find most forums are that way the more you’re on them. The main point of the thread was already addressed and answered.

Everything is connected to everything, man! Carrots, apps... we're all just vibrations, man. It's the Age Of Aquarius.. just groove with it...

  • Ha ha. I don’t think I have, actually, but I got the Yoda reference, even though it took me a few seconds. I saw Star Wars when it came out in the theater, though, so that makes me I guess about 60 years old. And I probably started using the occasional inverted sentence structure after reading some poetry, around the time I started acting arty in my teens.

  • For anyone still reading:

the genie offers turn me into Joe DiMaggio a week before his wedding to Marilyn Monroe. Alternately he offers to turn me into a gorgeous and smart woman of Italian heritage, just the type the cutie down the street named Ervin has been looking for for years. But Ervin is dumb as a paper hammer

the story does not have me engaging in non-consensual activities, nor is it misogynistic in the least. Nor does it require me to be bi.

    :)

  • Idk wtf anyone is talking about for the 2 pages before this, but are Phosphor 3 and Continua usable (not glitching?broken), do anything special, or something better has come along to do their jobs?
And speaking of glitching, does Replicant 3 do anything that SugarBytes Looperator can't? Ex, being able to save presets? :/
