Workaround : tap on the presets manager button (pencil and paper). Does it work ?
Ha!! What a discovery that was!!
Have never touched that button in Pianoteq 8 on my iPad - this menu that occurs is MUCH better preset chooser than the one that fail since last updae.
I will always use “the new” way to change presets from now on. Thanks!!
Completely forgot about that section! Nice to have the descriptions there for each preset too, thnx Paulo

Hi Paulo,
Which midi controller are you using with Pianoteq?
Yes, I think I now always use this menu to access presets 😊
Plus you can tag as favorites and filter only on some presets (yours in particular or your favorite ones). Filtering is then inherited in the regular menu.
My acoustic piano with the adSilent silencer + midi sensors strip retrofitted in it.
Strange, but this bug, preset browsing, doesn’t affect my iPhone 13 Pro Max…
I finally got round (I’m very late to the party) to playing this with my proper MIDI keyboards and playing it back to back with my previous keyboard apps of choice (NSK2 for Rhodes, Module for Wurli and Clav, and Ravenscroft for piano).
First of all, Pianoteq is bloody awesome. I love the ability to set the velocity curves, note off values and sustain pedal calibration (I have a continuous sustain pedal for half-pedalling) - something no other iOS app does AFAIK.
However, those other apps are stil damn good too. I was surprised how good they sounded after being immersed in all the Pianoteq goodness so I certainly won’t be offloading them just yet.
I think my favourite pianos are the Petrofs: I favour a more intimate, jazzy kind of sound a la Bill Evans trio and these seem to fit the bill perfectly (excuse the pun).
I love the Petrofs as well but I find myself reaching for Model B and Blüthner the most which surprised me. The Yamaha incarnation is great too as I’m more after a Steely Dan kinda sound but I love the percussive elements of some of the others for a prepared piano type sound. It’s a hard choice but when I buy the full version in the next couple weeks I’m actually considering the classical guitar, Tines, and and Blüthner as my choices.
Anyone have the link to the video where one user here compared all the piano sounds? I searched but I’m having trouble finding. I remember it being posted but can’t remember if it was a separate thread or not.
Planning on buying it in the next couple weeks so I’m trying to make a final decision.
Also another question. When you buy the full version+2 sounds, does it unlock the full keyboard for every sound or just the ones you buy?
Only the ones you buy
I figured so. That includes the free instruments right? Right now I’m only buying stage so I’m thinking guitar and tines/Hohner/or a piano. Can’t decide which one I want to save until later. I could probably get more decent electric pianos out of the apps I already have than I can piano sounds though. Gonna go ahead and buy today I think so gotta make a choice.
Also when buying extra packs do you do they straight from their website or is it an IAP?
It seems like a bit of an oversight that more instruments can't be demoed once you've purchased a license, I'd bet it would entice users to buy more instruments
Edit: correction, they're there at the bottom under "Other Instruments (DEMO)"
Can’t you still demo them all though? Just with the few dead keys. Or can you not play any of them after getting a license?
You can continue demo'ing all of them. Just once you switch to an instrument you haven't bought it goes into "20 minute mode", and will go silent after 20 minutes, require closing and reopening.
Ah sorry I missed it, how do you switch? I can only see the instruments I've already bought.
Edit: never mind! Found the at the bottom
That’s what I thought. Was just clarifying.
Includes the free ones, yes - remember that you will only get the free ones after you have chosen your 2 instruments from the Stage license. You can buy your instruments as an IAP or you can buy them on Modartt’s website. Either way, once bought on either platform, the actual choosing of which 2 instruments you want will need to be done on their website. You will also have to download the free stuff from within their website. Then go back to your iOS app, restore purchases, and follow the instructions in the manual for how to add your free packs.
Thanks for clearing that up. I’m assuming/hoping this can all be done on the iPad? I’m super excited to get everything going. Can’t decide if I want guitar and a piano or guitar and Tines. Choices choices.
It can! I'd say get guitar and a piano. Then just get vtines for Rhodes if you don't have it yet! I think I remember you do. It's good enough as a modeled piano. And then I guess u got the genuine soundware clavinet so all 4 of those would be quite a nice collection of modeled instruments, plus whatever Swam and geoshred stuff you have
I actually don’t have Vtines, but I’ve been thinking of buying it. I’ve been using PSP2 and Keys of the 70s for a lot of that. And I know Vtines can be loaded into PSP. And both are actually very good. Nothing quite compares to Pianoteq for pianos though. And since I don’t have my guitar anymore and don’t have space for another one, the guitar instrument is a must for me.
Piano wise I’m very close to getting the Gortian or Blüthner. For whatever reason I like the 2 of those the most.
Vtines can be loaded into psp? But it's not a gospel musicians product. And all gospel musicians stuff is sample based no? Vtines is modeled. Well worth getting if you like Rhodes. And will take up a tiny amount of space.
Oops you’re right I got it confused with the GM app. Demos of VTines sound fantastic! And only 42 MB. The joy of modeled instruments.
Yeah I'll really take good modeling over samples any day
Everybody here who’s unsure what to pick when buying Pianoteq 8 - at least one of the instruments you choose must be Petrof Grand Piano!
So fuckin’ nice piano grand, and, nothing on iOS/iPadOS sounds like Petrof…
I surprisingly ended up getting the classical guitar and Hohner collections. Sure I already have GSIs Clav, but the pianet is one of my favorites and I have nothing else like it on iOS. I’ll eventually upgrade to standard over the next couple months and will get the Blüthner for my piano, but those 2 packs interested me more in the meantime.
I like the Petrofs a lot but I prefer the Blüthner Model B honestly.
Congrats on deciding! With the pianos it's very hard because a) it's really down to personal taste b) depends on the situation at any given time which one you might choose if you had all of them.
The pianet is lovely, yes!
That’s the hard part. I could see myself using or having a use for each of the pianos for any given track. Luckily I have a handful of piano apps that are still great to hold me over until then. And the Pleyel that comes free is a pretty damn decent piano. If it’s good enough for Chopin and Debussy it’s good enough for me 😂
