A reminder that the developer of Samplr now works for Apple.

Logic Pro on iPad comes with a massive collection of realistic-sounding instruments and powerful synths including Sample Alchemy — a new sample manipulation instrument that can transform any audio sample with the tap of a finger.

Look at this screenshot. Something familiar, eh? Look at the modes in the middle (Classic/Loop/Scrub/Bow/Arp).

I must be invisible as I assumed this would cause much more of a stir. Let me be clear: it's pretty obvious from the screenshot that Sample Alchemy is basically A NEW VERSION OF SAMPLR!!!!

    ...with a cloud reverb

Meanwhile, we are able to use FCP and Logic 90 day trials on Macs forever by resetting Mac OS after trial ends.

    Just to save $5?

I want own app, not rent. I would easily pay 200€ for LPX on iPad and then anorher 100 for eveey major update once per year or two - but i own app.

Subscription is for me absolute showstopper.

Wow. Big news. I’m gonna read through this whole thread with interest, but by the looks of it everyone seems to be excited about Logic on iPad.
I’m the grinch here. I’m afraid about how it’s going to change the whole iOS app ecosystem, and I don’t think it’s going to be in a good way. As much as I’ve been wanting a “proper” daw on iOS I believe this is going to do more harm than good. Hope I’m wrong.

Man! Think about all your Drumdrops kits exs files that will very likely load like a breeze inside logic sampler!
Then imagine one day, Reaper or Ableton coming to iOS...
Things change, there's nothing we can do about it.

I feel you. I'm worried that what makes ios special might be lost a bit :/

Having said that congrats to everyone who wanted it!

Personally, I think it makes the iPad experience even more special. And you can still use every synth and plugin you’ve acquired over years.

well that's very true about the plugins! I hope ou are right and iOS becomes more than a curiosity for most musicians!

The pool is about to become a lot more crowded. And all those newbies will lose their ship when they see the price of AU FX, Synths etc. I don't see any reason why things as we know them will change for the negative. Quite the opposite, I believe.
I'm just counting down the days till the headphone jacks return ;)

Well, after a decade of waiting, here we are. Those incredible plugins I've been collecting finally have a worthy host to run them.

Awful news. Just plain terrible. I’ve always been able to hide my inability to compete projects by blaming the iOS ecosystem, but not anymore. Now this forces me to take accountability. Bastards.

+1 This is my concern too, which is why I hate subscriptions HEHEHEHEHE That was funny

Someone made a good point, over the course of 10 years, its $500, which is basically the super extended life of any CPU and DAW you buy on day 1, and this will include updates

Now I want to see if it increased my productivity if Blipsford said otherwise I’ll stick to my current work-slow LMAO! (Not workflow, work-slow, get it?)

Also, for Blipsford and me, one month on, one month off…. I hope apple allows you to start and restart your subscription. ??

Plus if Pro tools charges i get why apple is doing it. At least jwmakerofmusic said it best, $5 is acceptably reasonable so I can’t hate on that ;)

  • Does Logic on desktop have the kind of UI animations that GarageBand on iPad has?

  • Looks like we can expect a significant update to LP for Mac this year as well, given the functionality they're demoing for iPadOS (Sample Alchemy and Beat Breaker are the obvious examples). Exciting year for LP users!

The built-in instruments and effects are great, and the value-for-money (on desktop at least) is unbeatable. Now that LP has Live Loops you can have an Ableton Live-like workflow (albeit with a very different UI if you are accustomed to Live) but it's still a top-level timeline-based DAW. And as of May 23, it will represent the strongest unified workflow story for anyone who owns both a Mac and an iPad.

Not just Live Loops. The sequencer (Assuming it's the same as Logic) is really powerful:

I expect a bigger ipad than 12.9 will be coming soonish in the announcements at some point. It only makes sense for these desktop style apps.

A 15” iPad Pro would be perfect.

I think a 14.1" iPad is confirmed already.

  • I’m way too excited about this. Even tho we have several DAWs, idk if any of them are as feature packed as Logic and have cross platform compatibility so that what you do on the iPad transfers over to the desktop and vice versa.

    IMO quite premature...
It wasn’t the price that brought most users to iOS and it wasn’t the lack of tools that kept the ship at bay.
Sure, things will change... but talking about Richter 10 is a joke... not surprised though... we can get excited to the same extent for an unknown app... and forget about it completely in a week :)

Think about the upside. There's now more potential for Apple to make the whole OS more musician-friendly, now that it has a really large stake in inter-app communication, file-sharing etc. Of course, Apple could continue to maintain it's "Actually...We are an island!" stance, but there's likely to be more pressure.

I’m wondering what big announcement might be coming at next month’s WWDC for Apple now. Maybe they’ll show off the Apple Glasses (aka Apple Reality)?

    with Ableton link 👍
    so Blocs Wave, Launchpad, Groovebox….etc
    all working with LP 👍
and not as cumbersome as before with garageband on the iPad-saves me a lot of time

The rotating cube was the Fast User Switching feature on desktop. When you used to switch user accounts to log in a cube used to rotate on the desktop so you'd get the idea everything changed to their preferences. I don't think they use that animation anymore.

Yeah, I know it from Mac OS, it's just I remember seeing animations of a similar style within the app

  • I hope they ported over Flex Pitch and tempo track support from the desktop version. Can't find a detailed feature list or manual yet, but official release is still 2 weeks away.

They're implying that you can seamlessly move between Mac and iPad with your LP projects, so it kind of has to be functionally equivalent. Of course that "round trip" workflow relies a lot on having the same plug-ins and effects on both platforms, so I expect the reality will be more limited for most of us.

  • Never used Logic as I was a Cubase user back in the day and then went onto Reason. I haven’t touched a PC for music production for over 10 years now.
I wonder if this will be a watered down version of the desktop Pro?

Considering you can connect iPad Pro up to your desktop and work with a larger version of Logic Pro on an external monitor (or your iMac/Mac Pro), I suspect the reality will be more people will start to transition to an all-iOS solution all the time.
