Wow. Big news. I’m gonna read through this whole thread with interest, but by the looks of it everyone seems to be excited about Logic on iPad.
I’m the grinch here. I’m afraid about how it’s going to change the whole iOS app ecosystem, and I don’t think it’s going to be in a good way. As much as I’ve been wanting a “proper” daw on iOS I believe this is going to do more harm than good. Hope I’m wrong.

I feel you. I'm worried that what makes ios special might be lost a bit :/

Having said that congrats to everyone who wanted it!

Interested to hear your thoughts on this. I think it will probably encourage more "pro" plug-in developers on to the platform which will probably have the effect of driving up the average price of an AUv3. I'm not sure that's a bad thing though. I do think there might ultimately be a narrower path for an indie developer to find a market for a niche plug-in with increased competition, but I also think it might make an opportunity for more indie developers to actually make a living on the platform. We'll see.

Personally, I think it makes the iPad experience even more special. And you can still use every synth and plugin you’ve acquired over years.

  • How does Logic compare with AUM? Besides all the built-in instruments.

    Yeah subscription haters are idiots.

It’s official, I am an idiot.

  • OMG. I just realized I’ll finally be able to use GeoShred in Logic Pro.

I've never used a desktop DAW (apart from Cubase on an Atari when dinosaurs roamed the earth) so probably a dumb question but are folks expecting all the things we've been missing?

Tempo change, time signatures, proper audio and midi routing? Other things?

A 4/4 time signature logo is shown at the top of the mixer window - that leads me to believe other time signatures are an option

  • Maybe it comes with built in Samplr?! ⚡️ 🤯

  • Well thats the end of hanging on with the current five year ipad and not upgrading😂

  • Well, after a decade of waiting, here we are. Those incredible plugins I've been collecting finally have a worthy host to run them.

Should theoretically be able to do everything possible in the desktop version. Custom time signatures, tempo changes, MIXED time signatures… all of it.

I hate subscriptions as much as the next person, but will pay $50 a year for this without even thinking twice.

Yeah, I’m usually totally anti-subscription, but this is just a ridiculous amount of kit for $49 per year. The fact that my existing AU purchases over the years are supported and won’t be made redundant, makes it a no-brainer.

Only problem might be how my poor old Air 4 copes with it!

I’ll finally be able to use my favorite old synths and effects which never made the leap to desktop. Good grief, this is going to save me a ton of money, way offsetting the cost of a subscription.

This is the biggie for me: hardly any of the supposedly Mac friendly AU’s work on my Mini, so I’m doing basic chunks of live audio on the iPad, and airdropping/arranging it on the Mac DAW - which is a really clunky way of doing things.

Logic on the iPad keeps everything in one place, boosting workflow, and providing more options for automation, for example.

This is without even considering the amount of new kit it will provide.

I’ll see how it performs on my Air 4, but if it’s a struggle then a newer iPad instead of other music hardware, looks like a sensible investment now.

Yeah, happy about that, though RAM and multi core performance may limit the fun.

They’re completely different. AUM is a great place for jamming and experimenting and switching things up quickly, Logic is more a timeline-based DAW. If I remember right, based on what others said, Logic can be a bit of a pain in the arse in terms of midi, whereas AUM is a fantastic midi playground, but if I’m wrong on that, please someone correct me!

Amazing. It finally happened. $49 a year for a desktop Pro app. I’m in.

I don’t think my Air 4 is supported, if it was though I’d be in too!

No problem I got to an IPad Air 4 and it is chip A14 very powerful and for LP iOS minimal requirement is A12 iOS 16.4 . I got the 8 gd ram and 256 GB still 200 GB free.

Someone here read info about the size to download the full pack ?

  • I wonder if e.g. the "ES" synths, Ultrabeat and the other legacy plugins will come along. Seems like they have to if they're really supporting "round-trip" workflow between iPad and desktop. Will they finally get a UI refresh? Also, anyone spy a MIDI FX slot in any of the screenshots?

well that's very true about the plugins! I hope ou are right and iOS becomes more than a curiosity for most musicians!

I’ve had it on desktop for years, and it’s not as user-friendly as say, Live (for me, anyway), but the tracks I have made with it sounded incredible, the quality is really up there.

Until Ableton make a proper iOS DAW, Logic will do the business for me.

I bought AUM some time ago and have never managed to use it the way others do here. Just doesn’t fit my style of music making.

Auria Pro is doing most of these quite well already...

Yeah, good choice. I’m considering a 12” Pro investment - I’m old now, so it might be the last one I buy anyway!

  • Should integrate nicely with Apple one service plan I believe.

This is where I wish bm3 was a auv3 so I could use it inside Logic Pro like beathawk will play nice. Time to start scrubbing the apps this file size will probably be huge.

Actually being able to move tracks that was created on Mac and use them in the cloud for easy recall will be great when traveling and can’t take a computer. Only downside is I have a ton of tracks using maschine and who knows how that will work or if they are even on the bandwagon.

A reminder that the developer of Samplr now works for Apple.

Logic Pro on iPad comes with a massive collection of realistic-sounding instruments and powerful synths including Sample Alchemy — a new sample manipulation instrument that can transform any audio sample with the tap of a finger.

Look at this screenshot. Something familiar, eh? Look at the modes in the middle (Classic/Loop/Scrub/Bow/Arp).

  • I expect a bigger ipad than 12.9 will be coming soonish in the announcements at some point. It only makes sense for these desktop style apps.

I must be invisible as I assumed this would cause much more of a stir. Let me be clear: it's pretty obvious from the screenshot that Sample Alchemy is basically A NEW VERSION OF SAMPLR!!!!

  • Their strategy is focus now on video and music / sounds now so it is a large market . So we can expect more and more powerful IPad , larger screen and it will push their medium and high end IPad range.

I don’t know how dev of VST and iOS will adapt. Big sales coming ?
