This does seem like a wonderful instrument, but since I have Beathawk and all its IAPs, Module Pro and all its IAPs, and PSP2 and all its IAPs, would I need this app and all its IAPs? :) I think I have sufficient enough sounds to choose from already.

Spoken like a man who’ll be buying this and all its IAPs 😉

This is the best exchange on this forum in quite a while. Respect.

In non-related other news, it is remarkable to see people on this thread moving heaven and earth, begging for sample presets, trying to do anything they can to justify spending money on this thing despite it currently being not much more than a huge and very expensive cluster****.

Knowing and loving the dev's other apps, I'm sure it will all be ironed out, and the obviously sensible reaction (imho) would be to just sit back and wait until he does that. But the GAS force seems to be incredibly strong with some of us.
    🙂👌

  • Is there anywhere you can see descriptions and hear examples of all the sample packs? Hard to justify $10-$30 when you don’t know exactly what it comes with or how it sounds.

  • edited May 2023

I search a very good sound pack for « Vocal & Choir » but I need only to buy such a pack. I need to know the number onf sounds and to heard them all. I don’t matter the price if they are very very good.

  • Maybe offer a mix with some presets from each pack(!?).
As it is now it's way to expensive to buy just one pack imo. The 4 sounds one can test is (as said already), way to few.

  • edited May 2023

The dev has already mentioned they are putting up demos for every pack. Strange this wasn’t done before release, though. Be aware also that there is a pretty major limitation in the midi mapping capabilities at present. I hope fixing that is top of the list of priorities as you currently can’t map midi control of individual program parameters, only global ones.

  • Could this be an example of where a subscription would be a handy option? Not sure about how much that might cost, maybe the price of one of the instrument packs a month? The idea would be that you would use the subscription to demo the packs to work out which ones you want, rather than use it on an ongoing basis. Just a thought.

I was looking forward to seeing how the orchestral sounds stack up against some of the other options we have but can’t commit to purchasing blindly. I am also put off by the base install size - I could use AudioLayer or a soundfont player and install a lot of my own sounds for the storage that this app uses. I do understand that there is more to this app than being a simple sound player, so the comparison is not perfect. I would rather have a lightweight initial install with the option to download the free packs, though I do see that this might detract from the initial user experience.

  • So far there are 12 video demos of various packs on VirSyns YouTube Channel

  • I still don’t understand how the initial install is so large yet only contains a few sounds and the others have to be downloaded. Can someone explain this to me?

Maybe all the sounds are there and the IAP just unlocks them.

MAybe - if so, I can’t see that being popular given the space limitations of many ipads!

  • I will not buy this app as I want only a pack of very good sounds Vocal & Choir, do you know other alternatives for IPad ?

The app is free, no? And the choir sounds are fantastic by the way, especially the phrased choir pack. Wait til there is a demo up before buying, if there isn’t one yet, but to me it is more interesting than the Korg Module KAPro choir, though that is also good.

  • This reminds me the Xpad App from The iSymphonic Company The Pricing Was High And The Seles I thing did not go Well You Do not Hear People Talk About App
Low Pricing Make Te Money To Roll In
Gens They Are Bringing The game to iOS almost everything that Mac Has And Can do in a couple of years will be possible in iOS
And the pricing will go to the roof
Think back 5-10 years how much was the price of an app 1.99 and 2.99 was expensive
Get what you can and you need because shortly we EILL NOT Afford It
    PLEASE
    Consider Bringing The Price Down
VirSyn you’ll get your Seles and people will get this great to be tool and everybody will be happy Give It A Thought!!
    Just another opinion
    Thanks !!

No bro, it would be just logical (actually very logical considering the price) for the dev to make a first release of the app a bit more tempting for a potential buyer to consider buying any of the IAPs. Price strategy seems to be very well thought so i don't understand why the app seems to be in such an immature state.
A bit confusing. Is the dev having financial problems and pushed a cash cow out of its barn?

    Exactly. 4gb is a lot.

I meant to add, it is not just about what the packs sound like, but also how they play. You can certainly get a flavour of what to expect from hearing a sound demo but being able to play with a preset to see how good the multi-layering and round-robin is and whether the samples sound jarring when played legato (for example) is the kind of thing you often miss from a sound demo and only find out about after purchase. Hopefully the demos that will be coming soon will show some of this so we can make a more informed purchase.

  • I downloaded to play with the presets and does sounds great. I’m looking forward to hearing more but I deleted it for now and I’m waiting to make a more informed purchase. Seems very high quality though.

  • The size of the app is a pass for me. Massive fan of the other apps. Hope others that do use, have lots of fun

Maybe one day, Apple will let us store apps on SSD. I’ll be in a nursing home by then.

  • I bought the Vocal & Choir pack. It sounds very good but to fully use this app we need more packs and I really have a problem with such a high price... I will probably wait and see...

@VirSyn as someone else has already mentioned, the app is reminiscent of Xpad by Crudebyte, although the packs in Xpad are cheaper.

One thing that Xpad does way better though, is that it allows you to listen to samples with videos within the app before buying the packs. It might be an idea to download the app and see what they've done:

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/xpad/id1338505908

At the moment Xinematix is simply not enticing at all, because it's just a big black box. Buying a pack feels like getting a loot box, no idea what's inside.

And I'm not usually one to complain about pricing, but currently I would be much more likely to buy packs in Xpad rather than Xinematix, because they're a quarter of the price :)

@BerlinFx xpad has choir pack for only a few €. Perhaps something for you?

I don't mind paying higher for great sounds. The problem is that when prices are much higher, the sounds that are not to one's particular taste, but that come with the pack anyway, become a much more expensive waste. 'Duds' are easier to gloss over, if you've received 128 sounds for 15 quid. It's an altogether different proposition if 15 quid only buys 20 sounds.

While I'm sure there's no real way of doing it, I'd love to see the possibility of a la carte purchases. I'd pay 10 quid for 10 sounds, if I'd chosen every one of those sounds, having deemed them imminently and eminently usable in my work.

There may be multiple factors at work. One of the obvious ones is to consider how many samples are used to make a single sound. eg if each key on the keyboard uses its own sample. Another would be the length of each of those samples. Then add in a few more factors such as different samples for different note velocities, and then consider that all these permutations get multiplied together, and we can see how one sound may in theory use a lot of samples.

True, true. Would it really be normal in these kind of things for there to be one sample per key? I thought that in these things, maybe 3 per octave is already good enough, but I am definitely no expert on making sample packs.

I've got no idea how many samples per sound are actually used by this app, I was just describing a simplified, extreme example to get the overall theme across.

Have you ever used a synth that only lets you sample 3 Presets?

I cannot recall such utter nonsense.

  • Its not a synth.
