Wow addressed pretty much all of my concerns and most of the ones I’ve seen mentioned in this thread. Great Job TB!

I would honestly have preferred a numerical input pad similar to the one in Logic Pro for iPad or auGEN X and auSCOPE instead of the UI Zoom thing that defaults to text-input instead of a numerical keypad…

    @Samu said:
Regarding the new ‘screen zoom’ when entering numbers…
..why not add zoom the the gate sequencer as well for more precision when editing the steps?

Once a ‘numerical entry pad’ is ready it could propagate to all the other TB app as as well :sunglasses:

Probably best to @DJB - doubt he checks in here often

Edit- Answer to question became obvious, lol.

Feel like im being an old git. Just because of the annoying neighbours.

But were the design of app based around not being able to remove keyboard?

Every host has a keyboard not to mention. Most people have got a midi keyboard.

  • I have come across one pretty big gotcha with Lowtone. Round-trip capability between iPad Logic and Mac Logic is not there at all. I liked the app so much I got it for desktop, but settings don’t make the transition when you open an iPad project on Mac. Going back the other way is worse; opening a Mac project on iPad sends the plugin into a crash loop until you disable it.

I brought it up with ToneBoosters support and their response is that it’s due to a bug in compatibility between AUv3 plugins on iOS and AU (v2) plugins on Mac, so they have to wait for a bug fix from Apple. Makes sense, but it’s a big bummer for me as I love the way it sounds. Anyway, caveat emptor to anyone thinking of buying it for use in a cross-platform Logic workflow. I suppose this probably also applies to other TB plugins. I hope it gets resolved!

I think this applies to all apps available as AUv3 and AU plugins, no? It's not remotely a tone boosters issue, I reckon, though maybe someone can correct me

I never had this issue with Drambo as a host but from what I remember, Logic uses AUv3 features that haven't been commonly implemented by AUv3 developers. Some have already updated their plugins, some haven't.
I'm sure developers could chime in here and give us more details.

Yes I reckon this is true. The issue came to light for me in the context of Lowtone, since I suppose it's one of the first iPad plugins I've purchased that I felt compelled to go purchase the AU desktop version. But yes, the caveat applies to any plugin that's AUv3 on iOS and AU on macOS as far as I know.

AFAIK Drambo only supports AUv3 plugins on macOS, not the older AU format or VST format, correct? Round-trip in Logic works (mostly) for plugins where it's AUv3 on both platforms (e.g. Zeeon, Nambu, etc). Nambu works especially well in my experience; you don't even need to have the same presets installed in both places, the settings (and the preset name) will make the transition.

This has been a real road bump for file cross-compatibility in iOS/iPadOS/macOS music production.

Projects I start on iPad Pro and then bring to desktop failed to faithfully reproduce effects and synth settings to the point that I have essentially given up with trying to make that a real part of my workflow.

It’s a big time waster to re-enter every tweak and setting moving files between platforms and after I finally get hundreds of remaining projects off my iPad Pro I really doubt I’ll use it to start projects ever again unless Apple is responsive to the real day-to-day requirements of production centered work.

That sucks. I also really can't see the attraction for most logic users on either platform to try to bring their projects from one device to another, unless they are just using stock logic plugins.

Right. If you ONLY use whatever settings and plugins are available in GB or LP, then there are generally fewer issues. But it's Apple's job to make their platform work for ALL of their millions of developers, not just their own software.

Yeah, when I sit and think about it, the main appeal of moving from one device to another is mainly about getting access to plugins that are only available on one platform, and in that case, one will need to bounce tracks anyway. I feel that in those situations, the fewer tracks I need to bounce the better. I guess I don't like to commit a track to audio until I have no other choice

  • Kind of glad I’m iOS only and don’t have to worry about round-trip compatibility 😂 not to rub it in the faces of those that do, I’m just glad it’s one less thing for my dodo brain to worry about.

One thing we're considering is to release AUv3 for macOS, which would completely solve this issue.
However ensuring macOS compatibility between AUv3 and older formats such as AUv2, AAX, VST, VST3 is not trivial and hence needs to be resolved first. We shouldn't fix AUv3 compatibility at the cost of breaking patch sharing between AUv3 with other plug-in formats..... In any case stay tuned for updates - it is on our radar but it is not something that can be taken lightly.

I would love to see it! But I also understand there must be weird complexities when you’re already supporting other plug-in formats.

@DJB You mean another/different version of Lowtone? Because you already sell a version for desktop... Would the existing desktop version go away and be replaced by an iPadOS/macOS version?

    https://www.toneboosters.com/tb_lowtone_v1.html

  • Yay, super nice update this one is with the new arpeggiator :sunglasses:

The 'gate-sequencer' could use the same uni-polar mode present in Flowtones.
And well, some kind of numerical feed-back and snap-grid options for both Flowtones and Lowtone when editing the gate-step values, the area is simply too small for any kind of precision editing.

Other than that they are both solid and fun to tweak!

    Cheers!
