Anyone tried creating custom kits in Bilbao? I uploaded some samples via iFunbox, and they show up, preview, and I can create a kit, but when I re-load my new kit I see the samples there but they don't play back when I hit the trigger buttons. Anyone else having this issue?
Hi. Yes. This is a bug. If you add your own samples and then save as a user kit, it can't find. ( or can't play) your samples when you reload.
I found re-importing your samples again then saving again generally works.
The best approach is:
Start with a new Bilbao Gadget
Load Bilbao Int
Save as a user kit with a unique name
Only now start adding your own samples
Save
This should work.
I've also noticed that it gets a bit confused if you delete user kits. Sometimes you need to reassign samples again. Ideally don't delete any user kits.
The whole user kit code seems a bit buggy.
Hope that helps.
Has anyone hit problems with the global swing in conjunction with Abu?
My issue is that if you use swing in gadget then it won't play concurrent slices smoothly in Abu.
Obviously you can turn swing off, but I might want to use swing on the track as a whole.
@Matt_Fletcher_2000 - thanks for the information. That's unfortunate since part of the draw for me of Bilbao is using my own samples. I will say that sample management was one thing iMPC Pro got mostly right - pretty easy to move folders over from PC and move them into the pads.
That said, I did get it to "work" and man is it great to have the Gadget piano roll editor with my own sounds (and the gadget effects). They just need to improve how things are transferred and renamed.

Nope. Make sure each slice doesn't contain multiple hits (ie snares, hihats etc), since any audio within each slice will just play straight out. Also, things like the repeater parameter inside Abu follows what it's been set to (triplets or not etc), so that one can have an impact on how the global swing sounds together with Abu. Other then that it should work just like prescribed!
Thanks. It's a drum loop I'm having the issue with. It was made on a 16th grid in Boom808 so I don't think it's got multiple hits in one slice. But I think it might have swing on it itself already. So maybe that's the issue.
I did double check before posting. But I'll also go ahead and do a 16 pattern bar in Boom808 and see it I do get the same issue. WISH ME LUCK!!!,1
Did a 1 bar 16 beat loop, which worked just fine with the swing (also ran it along side a drum track sequenced inside gadget). As long as each slice only contains one hit (or audio that'll somewhat play along with the swing) it'll work just fine along with a global swing.
When starting to use loops where there are inevitably gonna be more audio within each slice, the only options are to either quantize and set the swing before bringing the loop into the Gadget project, or adjust things like decay/attack trying to cut out some unneeded hits, change where the slices are set, how the loop is "remixed" in the sequencer, and so on. You only have those 16 slices to act as "playheads" which gadget can quantize and swing the start-trigger with. I'd personally love to see options down the road for adding more slices, 32 or something, a lot of slicers have those 16 slices and that's it, for some reason. Sector by Kymatica have 32 slices as a max limit, which gives a lot more freedom in slicing those loops up. Get on Korgs twitters, FB etc and request it. I know I will.
Has anyone cracked the full midi implementation, transport, record, undo? I want to create a template for the beatstep.
A korg gadget midi implementation chart would come in handy. I take it you cannot midi learn the transport controls?
Thanks so much Chris G. That all makes perfect sense.
I believe my problem was setting swing outside gadget and then again in Gadget. Sadly I managed to delete the source Boom808 file so I can't redo it. But never mind . I'll try it again with no swing when I get a chance. Basically I think the lesson is to let Gadget handle the swing and import loops to Abu swingless...

Thanks Matt, I will try that, and let's hope for an update that fixes that!
Another bug I found is when previewing samples, either custom or built-in, Gadget crashes. It only happens when I do it quickly. Does this happen to anyone as well?
I get the crashes while auditioning also. Not every single time, but more often than not.

I got iFunBox the other day. How do I use it import samples? When I open it, I can see my photos in the Pictures folder, but when I go to the Local files I just get a bunch of empty folders
@xen iFunbox for PC/Mac (not an app). It's basically a file explorer for iDevices connected to your computer. Much faster, and lets you handle a lot more folders/files then the regular iTunes Filesharing.

Go to your aplications section and you will see the folder for each app.
Am I imagining this, or did you used to be able to drag down or up on a note to change its velocity? I could've sworn I did this in the past, particularly with notes in London.
In any case, I can't get it to happen now. I feel like I might have dreamt this feature...
@ChrisG
That makes sense, thanks.
@Aphex
I presume your talking about the PC/Mac version?
Unfortunately, MIDI sync in Gadget 1.0.3 is useless. The clock seems to be stable, but there is a big offset in the timing. At least while using Gadget as sync slave to my Electribes.
I found slaving gadget midi clock to loopy totally made the samples in Abu glitch and click (not in a good way) when I had a quick attempt. It didn't sound very happy at all so I de-hooked it!

That would be a handy feature. The velocity handles in the parameter display are almost it but I can't tell which is for which note if there's two or more notes on top of each, and selecting a note and taping or holding the +/- velocity buttons takes forever.
Sometimes I use ThumbJam, bs-16i or Cubasis to control Gadget if I want to add velocity variation or record pitchbend on gadgets that don't have it.
I've just done a quick test with Gadget and Cubasis. Recording a 1 bar drum pattern in Cubasis from Gadget at 128bpm. Gadget sync set to external. The recorded audio is 1.5 / 64 ths delayed from the beat. That's 29ms latency.
Repeating at 140bpm it is just about the same. When playing back before recording it wasn't obviously bad, but I tend to sequence more than play along and could have compensated while i designed the bass patch (i.e. When setting up a patch I generally adjust the attack to get the bass to sit with the kick)
In comparison with other apps, this is line with the typical recording delay I get with IAA generators or Audiobus connections and Cubasis. It is inline with the results I get from other Korgs (iPoly6, iMS and iELECTRIBE)
Are people getting worse than this with apps, or is it more with external hardware?

Yes PC version

Okay, I tried this method-- and I'm still having trouble.... I can hear the samples in preview but they don't sound when I hit the keys. Quitting, and re-loading, I see the samples there but no sound. Im going to re-try it and let you know the results.
@wrlmuzik said:
Also when I start with the "Init kit" and save that into a user location, the init sounds disappear too. The initial kit is just a basic kick drum on every pad. When I save that kit into a user location the pads don't sound anymore.

Ok I got it. I closed the app, re-opened, started a new project from scratch, and tried it again, and it seems to be working. In case anyone has the same issue, this worked for me. Thanks!
This might have been answered previously, but how do I "turn on" the Ableton export feature? I can see it in the Export menu but it's always grayed-out.
You dont have to turn on just load a song an export thats all. Export-Ableton Live Project- and choose any option
Anyone know the best way to report a bug to Korg? I know there's the App Help Center and the korg_iapps Twitter, but I'm not sure how closely Korg actually follows either. There's lots of people reporting issues on the Help Center but very little indication that Korg pays much attention to it.
There is a support form on their contact page - http://www.korg.com/us/support/contact/
