I'm a little on the fence about buying the whole bundle. Have they ever been on sale?
What are your top favorites in the bundle. I was thinking of picking up Murf and Freqbox and Saturator looks interesting.
I have Cluster Flux on desktop (and love it). Will the IOS versions detect the desktop modules over USB?
Moog recently changed hands, so past promotions strategies may not predict future sales.
They were on a massively long intro price when they came out. Apart from a few niggles I have with them, like the horrible code system it uses to identify other mf apps (random word or phrase would have been so much better) they are really excellent. Murf is brilliant, though it still has a bug regarding reducing step length in the sequencer. Freqbox ended up exciting me less than I expected but I maybe just need to revisit. I would honestly just get the bundle if you can afford it and if you like experimenting with fx. Audio quality is gorgeous. If not in a hurry, wait for a sale. As the intro price only ended recently, it wouldn't surprise me if they don't go on sale again til next year but who knows.
How much is the bundle now? Pity you didn't grab them on intro price because they worked out at just $5 each as part of the bundle, which was really a no-brainer.
I really appreciate this response. Answered all my questions!! The bundle is $60 now. I wish i'd paid more attention when they came out! Yeh, that code system seemed odd. Was it implemented that way to insure each instance of the plugins were unique?
$60 is still very good I reckon, yes. The codes are a way for identifying other moogerfooger apps, used as part of the system where one app can modulate another. That system is useful, but the decision to make the identifiers a bunch of numbers and letters was not the best way to implement it. Definitely not something to put you off buying them tho.
Thanks. I had very good luck with Cluster Flux on desktop. Somehow, modulating parameters seem to produce much more interesting tones than the same parameters in other effect apps. Filtatron was similar in that quality. I bet Soundtoys on desktop is similar but I haven't spent a lot of time with them. I probably should just get the bundle. Moog apps have been such good value over the years!
The main reason these are good for modulating each other is that the midi is high res, so modulating things like a filter cutoff frequency using these will be smoother than using a typical lfo app, so yes! Some of the apps in the bundle are definitely better to use as modulation sources than others, for sure - the ones that have more lfo types, for example.
O wow, I didn't realize that about hires MIDI. Very interestinng. The Moogerfoogers still seem to be attended to so bodes well for their future support I guess.
I certainly hope so Greg, and hope they continue to bring out new apps!
Here’s an example of using modulated MuRFs to create rhythmic textures in a soundscape:
The vid is silent, but the pinned comment is packed with info, links etc.
Crazy, just now found your YT channel, good stuff! Do you still use the MuRF and how would you compare it to DubFilter (and maybe using multiple DFs in sequence)?
I'll just pitch in here! Dubfilter has a different sonic quality entirely to murf, but murf has the sequencer and Dubfilter only has lfos. If you like modulated filter apps, they're both really worth grabbing.
Thanks for chiming in. I own DubFilter already and some other filter apps, the main usecase is to add interesting layers on top of noise or percussion and record them separately. So yeah the sonic quality is important, good to hear that it's unique/different from the other ones!
@Gavinski
Do they have sales outside of black friday? I might grab the entire bundle.
Well, I decided not to go for Dub Filter as I already have Dials and I think it is somewhat close to that. Anyways, I use MuRF way to little and not because it’s not great, but I just have too many apps
I couldn't resist the sparkly overtones from the cranked impedance knob of DubFilter. I also use Dials but sounds a lot rougher imo. In the project I've posted in the axon thread there's a dials trip lf hf filter on the horn like synth sound 😈, nice contrast with the mellow percussion that DubFilter adds on top 🫠
MuRF also has a more mellow sound that's what got me curious.
Dials is cool but it doesn't sound like Dub Filter. About sales, I dunno, you'll find the sales history on appsliced.co though - maybe search for a moog app that's been out for years and see what the pattern of sales has been per year. Moogerfooger bundle is worth grabbing if you like fx, definitely, beautiful collection, with murf being the most interesting imo.
Rob Moog was born on May 23th 1934, maybe there's a 90s anniversary sale coming up soon 😛
Does anyone here own a few different hardware Moogerfoogers?
Moog was recently sold. Hard to predict how sales will work now.
