@AnalogMatthew The new app is great, and I like the random preset selector. There's something really special about these 90s pad sounds. It's almost like, I forgot how a pad is supposed to sound.
Indeed. That is correct!
However, for those reading, there is a way to randomize a preset:
There's a 2nd dice! 🎉
It's in the PCM panel. You can use it to randomize the PCM source for each layer. Using that dice, you can create over 35,000 new unique presets (I had ChatGPT do the math for me. Haha). That doesn't even include the filter, fx settings, etc. Since it's randomizing the source samples, it can have a radical effect on the sound.
Enjoy,
but, would it be possible to expose that little random button to the midi parameters so it could be triggered by a midi command? i would love this a lot
I never noticed that little dice up there in the osc selection, thanks for pointing that out. Personally I like the way it’s implemented now. There are so many good presets (and I’ve made a few of my own) and being able to select them randomly but also know it was made by a real human person is nice
Absolutely. And it seems like we get more and more and better and better ones every year.
This is a seriously powerful (and fun!) capability. I could squander many hours just rolling the dice and never grow tired of it. Thank you @AnalogMatthew for giving us such a fabulous instrument.
Hey @matdun25848834
I've spent the past 15 minutes trying to get KoD to crash in Logic. I haven't been able to yet, but I believe you!
Are you able to tell me what system you're running (device, iOS version), what presets you were using, are you having the same problems in GarageBand, etc?
Is anyone else having crashes in Logic? If so, feel free to DM me or post as much info as possible so I can try to fix for you.
Please and thank you,
_ Matthew
Thanks everyone!
Coming in the next update: Better Search.
Search will open in a window, so you can browse and play at the same time. With all the presets, this comes in handy.
Quick Tip: Search will also search the Info Text. So you can leave a little note for yourself, type a setlist or album name, etc. Then you can search for it later with the Search button
Plus, lots of little updates/bug fixes coming.
Very nice!
thanks for checking., As I said I think it was just a glitch with that project. Once I've finished the current one, I'll try again.. thanks again

This is awesome, thanks!
@AnalogMatthew would you consider wilsonic/tune up integration?
I would!
I'm hoping to work with Marcus Hobbs (creator of Wilsonic) on the Synth One reboot this winter. And, once we get it working, hopefully I can add Tune Up/Scala import to King of Digital.
That would be fantastic!
Hi - would anybody be kind enough to confirm the fully unpacked size on your device’s drive of this app? I basically just don’t have the 3gb to spare unfortunately - but I’ve read a few pages back in this thread that I really don't need to worry about that. Can anybody confirm with authority that that actually is the case?
Many thanks 😊
For me it’s occupied 480MB on my iPad Pro 12.9” M1…
487.6MB here, iPad Pro 11” M1
@ErrkaPetti @Schmotown : many thanks for your fast replies. And that’s after using it? Early in the thread it was mentioned that it unpacks itself when first used - would you say that with your experience that hasn’t been the case and that comment was a guess?
Kind regards 😊
It takes 481MB here on my my iPad Air 4.

Many thanks @DMfan 👍
If you're referring to my previous post, I said it "upgrades" itself, not "unpacks". And I said it was still 480 MB, after running it multiple times. That's all.
woohoo!
I’m not sure who exactly I was referring to but it could have been, and I clearly misunderstood if it was yours. Thanks for clarifying 👍
Cheers 😊
+1
AFAIK it only unpacks the two sounds you are using
Hey everyone! 🎉 I hope you all had a fantastic holiday season! I'm finally starting to get caught up.
I've been giving back and have started teaching music tech to the kids at my alma mater. There's not a lot of music technology in this part of America, so it's really gonna be a great opportunity for the students. It's been a massive undertaking getting prepared for the kids. And now, I'm finally getting back into updating King of D and other AudioKit apps.
BTW, I read all the comments on these threads. And you are always heard, thank you! First off, for those who raised concerns about our app prices on this thread. I appreciate you letting me know and I've had the chance to bring your feedback to the AudioKit team. For those catching up, folks were concerned that AudioKit apps never go to their "retail" price.
Here's the scoop: Since 2020, AudioKit has kept our app prices super wallet-friendly, never going over $3.99.
As of today, most of our paid apps are back above the $3.99 mark, with six (6) of them $9.99, and a couple even daring to reach $19.99. Believe it or not, our total revenue goes down when we raise prices. This is because hardly anyone wants to spend that much on our little apps. And, AudioKit makes less money when the prices are higher. But, I understand how the apps were advertised and it makes sense to follow through. Perhaps in the future, I can make an app with a "no-bs low price" and it'll always be $5 or something.
To keep things affordable for new iOS Music users, King of D has doubled in price since last week, and will reach its full price in the coming months.
TLDR; If you've already snagged an AudioKit app before today, give yourself a pat on the back and a high five 🙌 - you've bagged yourself a bargain!
For those who didn't, I've lobbied hard to make sure there are going to be sales on major holidays and Black Friday. So those who truly can't afford them can get them, eventually. Though, I doubt King of Digital will ever be $3.99 again. But, it was a blast offering it at that price, bringing tons of joy to many musicians. So, a huge thanks to all of you!
Stay tuned, and keep being rad!
Thanks for checking in. Happy new year 🎊
Ist it possible to disable the global reverb while browsing presets? It's my main gripe with King of FM where the global reverb resets between presets, making it really frustrating to browse presets within an existing effects chain. Thanks for making KOFM free, I'd pay (more) for that feature though.
@kirmesteggno - Having some sort of global FX bypass/lock is a feature I'd like to add in future apps. Something else I'd like to add is a global arp/seq bypass/lock between presets. Maybe features like those will encourage more "pro" users to check out iOS Music apps.
As a work around, can you save the presets without the reverb on?
Something cool we've been doing that accomplishes the same goal – Some of our newer apps like KING OF BASS and SNES have an entire bank of over 100 raw presets with FX and sequences turned off. Look for the "Starter" banks in those.
Perhaps I can add a "starter" bank to King of FM. So, the question for you is how much ya gonna pay? Hahaha
Just kidding! Don't want to put you on the spot. As an additional solution, there's still the possibility of some sort of "primary/super synth" AudioKit app down the road with pro features like that, plus all the AudioKit sounds could be in one app.
@AnalogMatthew - never tried to save presets, thanks for the tip.
I quite like the KOFM approach with a single sampled synth like the DX7, more of those covering just one synth per app with an Ui tuned to it would be great imo, and why not charge for them.
I'm willing to help for free with UI design as a learning exercise but I've only experience with web UX/UIs and CSS and apps like Figma. What do you use to design the UIs? Where can I learn more about it?
