  • Might be a Field Wallet. Meant to compete with the Ridge wallet. 😂

  • It’s gonna be an app innit. The graphics are similar to that android app. There’s the guy from p033 in there which suggests that it's another pocket operator like the android thing. Then there’s midi and usb and stuff…

  • So the punching guy is from the po33. That's probably a good clue.
I didn't know about the Android app. I just looked it up and it looks nice.

the video name on vimeo is "teaser-desktop"

it's a DAW spiritual successor to OP-Z which won't receive a Field update

I don't get the TE hate - TX-6 is AMAZING and there is nothing like it on the market

  • Would be super cool if it is an app. They already have the iOS-op-z connection so it would possibly make sense.

  • I picked up a Modular 400 for just over £250, an excellent little synth for tutoring my son in modular synthesis.

  • Whatever it is I can’t afford it.

Too many people judging a book by its cover, it looks like a toy so it must be an overpriced toy. People don't realize how well designed their musical instruments really are IMVHO.

Yes it’s great but I have a hard time justifying their price for what their stuff does. It’s hard for me to think of a use case for a professional musician that is not sponsored by TE to use this seriously and unless you have unlimited funds and don’t care about money, I can’t imagine a hobbyist like me getting it because it fills a void that no other piece of hardware fills.

Case in point, their table. I mean come on. Seriously?

They have taken a page out of Apples playbook but they are not Apple with a big market share. I don’t know if TE’s business is sustainable. I guess they know better than me.

But as impractical as they are people buy Lamborghinis. However I doubt that a TE piece of equipment is gonna make you popular with girls

    😅

  • People scoff at TX-6 then suggest alternatives that are half the cost but: no battery, bad/noisy sound, 4x the size, no audio interface, and so on

Here’s the thing. I don’t know if an alternative makes sense either. Look at any TX-6 demo. It’s mixing much larger instruments. If you are mixing 6 hardware devices, even if they are on the smaller side like Volcas, then what’s the point in size and portability, batteries, etc.?

It's a beautiful thing, it sounds gorgeous, I use it every day. The battery lasts forever.

It pairs really well with an iPad- we connect a synth, a drum machine, and two pedalboards in stereo and record the music. It fits in my pocket, all I need is AUM. It's brilliant.

As far as the TE table, I wouldn't buy it but TE is also a DESIGN company. They work with/for other companies to help with industrial design.

I have a really nice kayak instead of the cheap plastic one I could get at Walmart for less. Because I want a great experience everytime I paddle, I want to go places the cheap kayak can't take me. All of these things I've worked for and saved for, I have no debts. Everyone has different priorities.

Looks like a great product but I would never pay that much for a 6 channel mixer. We all have our own priorities.

Agreed. I wasn’t completely sold until I actually owned the OP-1. It’s a fantastic piece of engineering that’s also super fun to play and offers a lot of little embellishments that allow you to make it your own.

Yeah I don't get it either. It is fun to poke fun of the TE-branded Ikea-styled furniture, which is rather ridiculous. However, the OP-1 Field looks like pure fun. A different way to create music, unapologetically digital sound engines, destructive workflow, various emulations of recording tech, etc.

And one of my favourite experimental musicians Hainbach uses it to great results. Give me one month with a f--king OP-1 Field to learn the ins and outs, and prepare for an Ambient EP soon to follow. 😂

I think they were poking fun at themselves. My respect for them went up a ton for that one. I love people who do what they do, find their niche, and don't give a rip about people who don't like that.

Poking fun at isn't the same as hate (though of course it can be). I think some people are taking this thread a bit too seriously. 😎

I didn't think of it from that perspective. In that case, that's a chad move. Mad respect.

Despite the hipster trolling, I would genuinely agree with the love here for the TX6, it does appeal to me for my iPad/small gadget workflow. But that price? Oof! If the Bastl Instruments Bestie included an audio interface on USB C I’d be all over it as a quarter-price alternative.

Currently £185, push it to £250 for the absent integrated class compliant audio interface, and we’d be cooking with gas.

Pricey, yes, but, be glad that you ain’t in love with Swedish high-end cars rather than musical items as TE or Nord…

Swedish company Koenigseggs latest supercar impress, but it’s also pricey, 3.5 millions dollar…

Yeah if I had unlimited funds the TX6 and Field would be the first 2 things I’d buy. I’m saving for the Field right now but i absolutely can’t justify the TX6 currently, as cool and useful as it seems. I do wish I’d never sold my original OP-1. Ah well. Live and learn.

  • I like some of the TE lifestyle stuff. The OB-4 is a heap of fun and the headphones for the OPZ are actually pretty good.

  • Guys, you don't need to spend that much for a field mouse cage. Beheringer makes a knockoff "Frisky Ferret" cage you can get on Amazon for $124.54.

  • I'm a Teenage Engineering fan, if that matters, and I'm eager to see what this is. I feel like TE has evolved a new kind of dialog with its customers. Like @wim, I find the silly high-end lifestyle products kind of admirable in their provocative pricing. And a $25 bottle opener is probably more of a comment on consumer culture; I fear the market is a very insecure person who wants to be part of the brand (or somebody who thought $25 was worth it to spend for the conversation it would spark whenever it was pulled out in the right crowd).

Anyway, it's totally fair to criticize their products. To fans, they are magical. And the prices are really high, too.

I do have one question about this comment:

    @ErrkaPetti said:

Just as an example for some perspective - Teenage Engineerings yearly revenue is the same as what Apple has per hours - Apple is almost 9000 times bigger as a company…

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say. Revenue per employee, maybe? Of course, Teenage Engineering could not possibly be anywhere near Apple, which makes more than $2.4 million per employee! (Apple is second, amazingly, to Netflix, according to this chart.)

But according to another chart, Teenage Engineering's estimated revenue per employee is $245,000 — not that far off Amazon ($333,000)! And I'd imagine it's much better to work for TE than Jeff Bezos.
