I'm a Teenage Engineering fan, if that matters, and I'm eager to see what this is. I feel like TE has evolved a new kind of dialog with its customers. Like @wim, I find the silly high-end lifestyle products kind of admirable in their provocative pricing. And a $25 bottle opener is probably more of a comment on consumer culture; I fear the market is a very insecure person who wants to be part of the brand (or somebody who thought $25 was worth it to spend for the conversation it would spark whenever it was pulled out in the right crowd).

Anyway, it's totally fair to criticize their products. To fans, they are magical. And the prices are really high, too.

I do have one question about this comment:

Just as an example for some perspective - Teenage Engineerings yearly revenue is the same as what Apple has per hours - Apple is almost 9000 times bigger as a company…

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say. Revenue per employee, maybe? Of course, Teenage Engineering could not possibly be anywhere near Apple, which makes more than $2.4 million per employee! (Apple is second, amazingly, to Netflix, according to this chart.)

But according to another chart, Teenage Engineering's estimated revenue per employee is $245,000 — not that far off Amazon ($333,000)! And I'd imagine it's much better to work for TE than Jeff Bezos.

Yearly revenue for Teenage Engineering per employee was approximately $300k for year 2022…

Nothing special with that amount of revenue per employee here in Sweden…

  • Is that revenue including the agency, or just the retail products?

  • They're the Tesla of their product category.

For me, only cheap and poorly built products are expensive. Price rarely has anything to do with it.

People scoff at TX-6 then suggest alternatives that are half the cost but: no battery, bad/noisy sound, 4x the size, no audio interface, and so on

Despite the hipster trolling, I would genuinely agree with the love here for the TX6, it does appeal to me for my iPad/small gadget workflow. But that price? Oof! If the Bastl Instruments Bestie included an audio interface on USB C I’d be all over it as a quarter-price alternative.

Currently £185, push it to £250 for the absent integrated class compliant audio interface, and we’d be cooking with gas.

Inspired by the idea of the TX6, I found a nice alternative that is far less deep but works very well for me nonetheless:
The TC Electronic Blender, going for under $200.
    Batteries: Yes
    6 stereo audio inputs: Yes
    1 stereo audio output: Yes
Works as a 12-channel audio interface for iPad: Yes
Has an on-board mixer with 4 headphone outputs: Yes
Has controls for volume and panning both on the device and from an iOS app: Yes

Interesting…I’ll check it out. Just to clarify - is that you in the photo, so you have one and are using it as described?

No that's a pic from the TC web page but indeed I'm using it to mix (and sometimes record) the stereo inputs from iPhone, iPad, Digitone, Digitakt and Wavestate.
Like with the TX6, you'll most likely need a set of adapter cables to match the 3.5mm TRS style inputs.

    You should work in PR.

  • You told me I should work in PR, and honestly, the only acceptable response is "Go fuck yourself," so I think I was being pretty restrained lol

After reading your last response I take back my view that you should work in PR.

Currently lol-ing at both you guys. Glad it was settled 😂

  • Just read an interesting suggestion on another forum, maybe it’s new “carts” for the OP-Z ?

  • If you're into modular Teenage Engineering's modules are affordable.
The build quality is more entry level than anything else
however for the price they are very reasonable and
the tech support has been good so far in my experience.
I have two of their 24db/oct low pass filters and
I'm quite tempted by their analog sequencer.

    Yup.
Four tracks of CV sequencing with 64 steps each and it's also got midi out.
The price has now dropped to £59 however I've just purchased
an Expert Sleepers ES-3 so I'm going to play with that first before
    I get anything else.

It’s not bad for the price, but not without limitations, like backing up sequences, you have to go old school for that. But you’ve got clock in and out, best using an external PSU though, battery replacement is a PITA.

  • Nah, that couldn't possibly be the announcement. 😂

  • Of course I don't think this is the announcement but it's still very strange releasing the day before the announcement.

    Cool, good to know.
I noticed in regards to the battery replacement.
    Thanks.

Excellent. Whatever it is will be sold out before I wake up removing all temptation for instant gratification.

  • what is a grip car? oh nevermind I found out. TE have confirmed the teaser is not about the grip car.
My guess is it is related to the PO-33 KO.
