Hoping “move” is hinting at a portable device as you’re on the move. With all the portable devices dropping recently, perhaps they want to jump in the game. Yes, realize push 3 has a battery but not really spur of the moment casual use.

Yah even though I no longer commute I do have my eye on this sort of thing, could be interesting.

Feels like they already have note for mobile work?

To me ipad is very viable for portable use (where the destination is sadly now a table) but I still pine for actual mobile stuff to use while walking (without latency) and keep my eye out for things I could maybe one day use again that way, like back in the headphone ipad days.

I found that tactile hardware like Circuit was really gratifying to use on the train. If it were a slimmer tablet/keyboard form factor it could have been great for walking. Anyway looking at SP-404 stuff feels like one day we may get some cool handheld genuine mobile stuff.

A device that is a field recorder/sampler/Ableton Live session view sounds fun! Lower cost groovebox, I’m sure whatever Move is will be well thought out 👍 Maybe between $399 and $599 price range?

I feel like there’s a chance that Note is a proof of concept for more.

  • It will most probably be a portable hardware.

Based on Ableton AG, the Ableton Move trademark is used in the following business: Musical instruments, in particular electronic musical instruments; sound effect devices as musical instruments. , Computer hardware for music and sound production; digital controllers for musical instruments in the form of audio interfaces; Musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) controllers; equipment for creating and editing music and sound, namely music sequencers; music and sound samplers; bags for computers.

  • hope the faders are motorized.

That’s really interesting ! I’d imagine if they are launching a smaller “portable” device it will be around the £800 mark which is approximately half the cost of the full size Push, I mean I’d happily be wrong and see something “cheaper” though.

  • Perhaps it’s a device that is plug and play ready to handle the RNBO max devices for effects and undoubtedly way more.
Max for Live in a box!

  • Maybe between $399 and $599 price range?

599 to 999 seem more likely if hardware

  • Could it be a stand alone hardware version of Note with some added features?

  • I checked out the thread on Elektronauts and, while it pains me to say this, I’ve started getting my hopes up for new hardware… trying to keep my expectations low, but I’m very excited for October 8th.

I’ve travelled with the Push 3 multiple times, and it’s right at the top of what I consider “portable.” If they released something like the Polyend Tracker Mini, which runs essentially the same firmware as the big version but sacrifices physical controls for a smaller form factor, that would be a compelling purchase for me.

Speculation is running rampant and no one has any reliable clues (I’m not even sure I trust that trademark filing that claims Move is hardware). But yeah, I spent a little bit too much time online yesterday and may well have set myself up for disappointment. I would still be very happy if it’s a service that streamlines library management across devices, but I sold some gear this week so I’ve got space and cash for a new toy.

hehe, you have liquid cash, that's dangerous!

  • It’s Ableton’s version of Dancing with the Stars, and it will be streaming on Apple TV, and will have motion detecting shoes with haptic feedback.

I'm a bit worried now, my lovely, motorized fader control over Ableton live looks way less likely now

this might not even run Ableton live? surely, they wouldn't do that?

if it's a small portable hardware device, it's going to have way less power than Ableton note on an iPad.

I'm definitely worried, as long as it runs Ableton live maybe it will be ok.

  • Looks like they either want a piece of pocket operator, KO, or elektron.

agreed. super curious if it runs Ableton live at all. never thought i say that.

must be some cut down version.

Yeah, very Pocket Operator/Elektron style icons. Portable ‘groovebox’ running a version of Note, maybe.

If build quality is up to OP-1/Digitakt levels with decent pads and knobs I might be interested. MIDI out control even more tempting. All down to price really.

  • Definitely a groovebox of some sort not a portable push. I wouldn’t expect a full Ableton Live experience on this, it’s a self contained on the go machine.

I’m wondering if it’s kind of like having individual Fors like max for live devices on each channel that are controlled via hardware. Then when you transfer a set back to Ableton, it has those same devices running on the channels. Same sort of Note experience, you start the idea on the Move and then transfer it to Ableton, but instead of mapped to native Ableton devices, they map to the Move variant M4L devices.

not much details. According co categories it could be from 'Computer hardware for music and sound production' to 'bags for computers'

so, this would be more interesting to me if the machine ran ML4, in theory you could transfer the M4L devices to Ableton live.
also means it would be open source for new devices.
not holding my breath on this concept though.

This is the purpose of RNBO. To run M4L on hardware devices. It doesn’t have to be open source, it can run Ableton made RNBO devices.

Few more days to wait... but perhaps the waiting is half the fun ;) Plus fun speculating from the clues!

The Move name and the oled-style pixelated icons from video suggest a hardware groovebox type machine. Not that that narrows it down much! I would guess something battery powered that looks a bit like a Polyend Play (small oled screen and a pad matrix) and priced similarly (500-700€$). I would count on ableton cloud integration. And i would imagine a mainly sample-based sound (to keep CPU needs low) and maybe inclusion of Drift similar to Note.

    So... who's taking bets :D

indeed, it doesn't have to be open source but if it was it be very interesting.

regardless, i like the idea and it would be an excellent device and also not step on Ableton's other products.

really hope it's a M4L hardware device which can transfer its ml4 devices to Ableton live. sound almost too good to be true so let's see.

Yeah I agree. It would be fun to have them expand it to new M4L devices instead of native live ones. m4L opens up such a wider world of devices and can be unique to the hardware but still run just fine in Live… or even Note for that matter!
