Hmmm, should have had a better screen and 8 tracks. Might as well get Note and Push 3 instead.

But it depends on how you look at those 4 Tracks.

I see: 4 Tracks x 16 Pads of Samples = 64 Sounds (which can also be Pitched via 16 notes)

I agree but additional midi tracks would have been excellent for sequencing external gear in a live situation.

pretty sure you need live 12

    Aha, noo!

“ Control Live Mode is supported for use with Live 12, version 12.1 or later, as well as Live 11, version 11.3.35 or later.”

    https://www.ableton.com/en/move/manual/

ah i thought you meant using it as standalone and transferring the projects via cloud to live etc...

Both I was hoping, aren’t the sets compatible with v11? I guess if it’s using Drift, that would be an issue.

On the fence with this one. Not quite the full beans as a mini controller (no MPE), but it’d be handy as a sampler/instrument in its own right, since my iPad IDAM is playing up (again!).

It’s going to sell out while I’m dithering, but could be a purchase in a month or two, depending on reviews.

    Any word on iPad integration?

  • Seems not to have Bluetooth? That's a pity for iOS musicians

  • Not disappointed at all with this, not expensive either at £399.

That’s probably possible via the inexpensive M-Vave USB midi dongle.

  • So happy to pass this gas!

  • Pass as well. Looks cool though, but maybe if it came out through four years ago, I would’ve been totally excited, but I don’t get too excited anymore because the iPad just can do so much stuff. I’m excited for some cool videos though.

I’m waaay more stoked about Clyphx and Crossfire control add ons are back in Ableton 12.1.
Action Lists in Ableton plus Loopy Pro on iPad, one could just dream of endless possibilities in control and performance.
    Exciting Times.

I do think Move is pretty though. Probably perfect for some.

so, it's basically Ableton note software but only 4 tracks (Note has 8 tracks). The move and Ableton note are the same thing software wise.

you can access the projects on Move in Note via cloud .... but only 4 tracks.

  • 4 tracks kills it for me, particularly as I have Note on my phone. If it had 8, I would almost certainly have bit.

same for me, was ready to buy it but 4 tracks is showstopper ..

  • pass from me
good hardware but the interface seems like a nightmare:
tons of combos to access even the basic functions...

Yeah, the workflow looks a bit convoluted too. Still need to swot up about iPad/Live integration as a controller, but it’s not making me reach for the buy button just yet.

On the other hand it’s rekindled my interest in a Push 3, since they’re now being shipped via the UK, so no awkward return process to Germany if there’s a hardware issue.

  • Not really understanding the 4 track bit. Couldn’t they have added a shift key.

    Ableton move is coming!!!

And I sold yesterday the DG II by the same amount that I bought it....so perfect!

For me Ableton is several orders of magnitude above of something else, so have the physical controls and standlone Ableton Note is a dream come true

Soooo..this is basically a $449 controller for Abelton Note w/ on board sounds! Got it 👍

  • I don't use Live so it doesn't offer me that incentive, but I guess it would be pretty cool for avid Live users, especially for those that don't use iPads or phones for music on the move.

For my personal requirements I don't think I'd want to swap my Circuit Tracks for the Ableton Move. I love the Tracks workflow, the Move looks like it's cool but only judging from the video I've seen I think I prefer the Circuit sequencer.

Anyway, it's all good. Gadgets are fun. Might make for a fun toy when it's on blowout sale. ;)

Oh and as for the video I watched, I'm getting uncanny valley vibes from the voice over! It sounds AI and creepy!

  • I hope they add 16 levels to Note's drum kits.

  • Love it: speaker, mic, line input, and lithium battery makes this a great sketch pad 🙌 Yes, an iPad could do these things with an audio interface but this is an instrument. This is a new wave of instrument that is digital. This is not a laptop, tablet, or phone. It’s just a musical instrument. It’s not for everyone, it’s for the people that like the workflow.

Personally, I love screens but I love making music without a screen or very little screen because I get out of my own way and just jam. No setup needed. It’s great to get random presets to start with just like Note. Another cool, inspiration machine!

  • One of the best things about using Move is how it syncs with your Cloud project saves from Note and vice versa. So I can start a project on my phone, then finish working on it with hardware back in the studio. Or vice versa, use the new midi editing on Note to adjust things I started on Move. Works great, I love this more than I thought I would. We’re getting 8 cloud saves as of today instead of the original 5 too.

No MPE because it would have raised the price too much for what they are targeting. Not more than 4 tracks for the same reason.

  • Seems like a good option for someone already in the Ableton environment. Personally wouldn't touch it for $500. I think I'd get a SeqTrak as that looks comprable.

  • Sigh, won't be considering music hardware (or Abe) until I resolve the whole 'unable to upgrade to Windows 11' issue on two machines. But I do want in on the Abe thing one day.

  • Build quality on this is light years ahead of a Seqtrak, FWIW.

Having neither rules it out for me, unfortunately. 4 tracks is too few for mobile/live playing, and the lack of MPE makes it less appealing as a controller. Plus it doesn’t seem (please correct me if I’m wrong) to work as a hardware MIDI controller for Note on iOS. I’d have happily paid a bit more for those features.

Really want to like this, as it’s affordable and I can see it getting a lot of fans, but just doesn’t tick enough boxes for my usage. A Push 3 purchase is back on the cards!

  • It is not a controller for Note, you’re right, only Live controller support.

Thanks for confirming, I’m most likely out then. Sketching with Note on the iPad, transferred to desktop for additional tweaking works for me, and I’ll wait for the next Push 3 sale for a controller.

Never say never though, there’s going to be a deluge of video demos so I may still be tempted!

it's a little ironic as I believe if Ableton move had MPE functionality or 8 tracks rather than 4 tracks the machine would have been much more well received.

personally, I would have bought it if it had MPE for a second Ableton live controller even if i don't like the small screen.

also the YouTube content which drives sales could had been better if the machine had 8 tracks.

Somebody in the elektronauts thread said one of the reviews claimed the push 3 standalone was going to get cloud support, so i'm gonna be in heaven. Note directly to Push will be stellar.

I guess since i already have a Push 3S, this seems very lacking and not a ton smaller than a push for what it gives me. The Note updates are fantastic, so will be passing on this one.
