  • These days you really have to think hard about what the Tubers don’t say, as much as what they do, when they’re clearly desperate to work with the company again in the future.

4 tracks and 4 hours for 400 bucks. Limitations are the key to successful music production these days, according to the Ableton accountants 😂

Even the Ableton Product Manager looked awkward talking about what it could do. Would have made some sense if you could use it as a dedicated controller for Note but they didn’t even manage that.

Ableton seem more focused on the desperate business model, to get more people signed up for Live and Push, than they are about what musician’s actually want and what’s available, to us, outside of their ecosystem. Not interested thank you.

  • I called it man - it’s an iPad/notes medium between the software and standalone hardware - i gotta say, I am impressed with this thing. I like it. Would I get it? Probably not. But for Ableton fans this would be a really cool

They should include a redeem code for notes with the move though. Am I right?

  • Still got polyphonic after touch 👍

  • The pads feel good, they aren't identical but very similar to Push 2's pads. Pretty responsive feeling.

Sigh, won't be considering music hardware (or Abe) until I resolve the whole 'unable to upgrade to Windows 11' issue on two machines. But I do want in on the Abe thing one day.

I had that and had to change a bios security option.

  • I was expecting more for that price-point.

Even though it is missing onboard sampling, Circuit Tracks gives much more bang for your buck including sequencing 2 hardware devices with DIN midi, in addition to 2 onboard synth tracks and 4 drum/sample tracks.

Based on the reviews I've seen, I'm sure some will find Move inspiring and fun to play with. It's just not for me.

mmmMM! Interesting, maybe my bios is suppressing the CPU security feature something something... will investigate, thanks!

With Roli's Theramin-like device and this, I think they're running out of ideas.

Reminds me of the Roland expressive ring thingy that got discontinued. I’m sure Roli will give the device to artists that we admire to create buzz.

The more I tinker with Note, the more Move seems intriguing. It seems like one of those devices that is more fun to use than the specs suggest 👍 @Tarekith

  • I’m so on the fence with this one. Despite the limitations, you can do a lot with it, as a sketchpad, controller, basic sampler, even as an instrument in its own right. Build quality looks good too.

Not tempting me enough to hit the buy button yet, but looking forward to seeing some user vids, once they get their hands on it.

it's a little ironic as I believe if Ableton move had MPE functionality or 8 tracks rather than 4 tracks the machine would have been much more well received.

personally, I would have bought it if it had MPE for a second Ableton live controller even if i don't like the small screen.

also the YouTube content which drives sales could had been better if the machine had 8 tracks.

This sums it up for me as well.

It's a swing and a miss for my needs.

    I got close 😂 I’m sure I will soon

One of the best things about using Move is how it syncs with your Cloud project saves from Note and vice versa. So I can start a project on my phone, then finish working on it with hardware back in the studio. Or vice versa, use the new midi editing on Note to adjust things I started on Move. Works great, I love this more than I thought I would. We’re getting 8 cloud saves as of today instead of the original 5 too.

No MPE because it would have raised the price too much for what they are targeting. Not more than 4 tracks for the same reason.

I’m glad there is no MPE. I dreamt about this, almost exactly… 😂

  • So , presumably the Note beta testers didn’t know about Move , & Ableton development team have been working on this hidden agenda during all their Note interactions .
So when devs said x or y wasn’t feasible for Note requests ,they were also secretly referring to Move .
Seems Berlin is still the home of double agents .

Regarding the device it’s too limited for this ipad owner , especially only 4 tracks ,
but I would suggest the devs look to implement max4live & Live 12 midi transformations & generator functionality rather than full DAW development - if it is meant to be an idea generating sketch pad it should be veering towards
    Torso T1 & NDLR creation possibilities .

  • 4 Tracks seems counter productive for this stage in the process for me. How are you supposed to experiment with different layers and combinations at that stage if you can only ever have 4 things in parallel?

  • I was just mulling over a good device to use as an audio input mixer into Move when I realised the Joyo Momix pro is perfect - small, battery powered, hi-z instrument input and phantom mic power. I’ve had one for a few months and it’s already proved itself useful in many ways beyond that which I originally bought it for (as a dual iOS audio interface). Paired with Move it should be just the job for sampling non line level sources.

Don’t forget you can have a drum rack on each track that holds 16 chromatically playable samples too.

Yeah, this seems like a secret weapon being overlooked by a few.

Is the Ableton Cloud sync two -way? Can I make changes to a set in Live that is then reflected back in Move?

  • Had a play and super impressed with the build quality, and overall thoughtful design. But it's just not something that's scratching an itch for me. However, it's one of those devices that screams "instrument" and not midi controller, and I have a feeling it will become a cult item over time.

seems more like a hack than a secret weapon. however, you never know, some interesting stuff might come out of using samples in drum rack in a different way.

Ableton cloud in terms of projects is a one-way street to live... both move and note can send projects to each other (4 tracks!!!!) both note and move can send projects to live but live cannot send projects back to them.

you can create presets with drift and drum rack in Ableton live and send them to note/move.

  • Thanks Danny

  • If 4 track limit is firmware and expands to 8, I'd be on onboard. Agreed that MPE is a missed opportunity here.

  • Caved and bought one. Been a while since I bought any gear so…

  • Not sure how powerful the processor is to be able to handle 8 tracks.

  • Hopefully these Preset names scroll left after a second or so?

  • I like the design and the size but I would like a bit more robust sampling editing and more tracks. Of course I assume some of this will be added via software. I am sure they already have a roadmap for move 2: bluetooth midi, mpe pads, 8 tracks (which may come to this version via software), and hopefully a bit larger screen.

Can you play chords in 16 levels mode?
