I like it when Patreon accounts show their earnings. Most don't but it's interesting when they do. I rate Monotrail very highly as he does great modular synth how to videos free on YouTube but if you subscribe to his Patreon then you also get these visually pleasing and well thought out patch notes as PDFs. That's a good extra service and worth paying for IMO. It looks like they make about $3K a month from it before expenses etc. Well deserved IMO and I hope it increases for them https://www.patreon.com/monotrail
It's good to see earnings in the nature of transparency and
other Patreons can see that their not alone in providing support.
I've seen this Monotrail before.
His explanations are really cool and the sounds he makes with his gear are seriously groovy.
The PDF's are a nice touch.
@gusgranite
Their rates are not to unreasonable either.
It must be dynamic pricing calculations or something because the figure just dropped to $2.2K for some reason.
Or it could be a loss of Patreons.
Stating the obvious sometimes we have to look at World events because it does affect peoples pockets.
A drop of almost a $1000 is a serious drop though.
And the drop happened within 10 minutes lol. Maybe Monotrail is playing with the monthly pricing on their side or something. Anyway, bit of a tangent
Oh sugar.
Nah, their page may needed to have been updated and maybe you saw it before and after.
There have been plenty of tangents in this thread so far, a couple of punch ups and drinks at the bar.
Well...I'm glad everyone has stuck to the Queensbury rules though considering the mods haven't lept in it yet.
A quick furtive look around....
This comment made me think about the supporter side of my Ko-fi Shop.
Thanks.
Edit.
As in the pricing plan not the playing around.
I like to be as consistent as possible.
Ahhh yes.
Just for the sake of consistency.
I mentioned earlier on in this discussion that I had once thought about developing my YouTube.
I forgot that I was also going to do the same with Patreon.
This is my Patreon which I opened up just before the Lockdowns.
https://www.patreon.com/Gravitas1
It's still there without content etc, etc, etc.
and my other Artist name is ModernDayBlue.
I created my YouTube under that name many, many moons ago.
Anyway moving on.
After Capital G's totally unnecessary self-righteous discharges earlier, let’s pop back and take another look at these two.
This literally isn’t how forums work. Anyone can go back to any point being made, at any time and comment on it - just like I’m doing now. Discussions aren't over just because a forum member says so. Especially when they're trying to smooth over the cracks because they've been implicated.
I'd certainly be interested to know more about the mechanics and truth behind this particular YouTuber’s MixBox promo. Like how the winners were picked for example.
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/62529/ik-multimedia-free-mixbox-presets-from-seonn-in-celebration-of-our-5-year-ios-journey
Sam (at)Samflash3 - highly recommend reading the activity on that account, the last 3 threads had to be closed and the account abandoned due to, amongst other things, click baiting - now known as Seonn (at)seonnthaproducer was shown, at the beginning of Page 4 of this thread, to have requested the MixBox codes from @IK_Multimedia. Then he said he'd paid for them out of his own pocket. Then, when pushed, said he did actually get the codes from IK.
So, duplicity aside, we are still left with the fact he gave an IK acquired MixBox code direct to his buddy, Gravitas, who subsequently wanted the discussion moved away from this thread that references YouTubers and code giveaways. Go figure!
Not the sort of practice one would have thought a reputable music forum would be in the habit of accepting, sweeping under the carpet and turning a blind eye to.
Just pointing out the facts, as written here. Probably nothing 😂
*Full disclosure. I already owned MixBox so wasn’t interested in the giveaway and didn’t enter.
And...
Again????
Oh f!!k sake.
Really speak your mind.
What are you trying to imply????
No holds barred.
I will reply however I will wait patiently for everyone else to chime in first with their opinions and thoughts on the matter.
However these are my rules.
You're not paying me so no you cannot go through my bank account, my receipts or my personal communication
unless you have a warrant with concern that something nefarious internationally is happening and if you are implying that something nefarious is happening then I shall get in touch with the relevant Lawyers on my side
who do specialise in such matters and let's take it to court.
I've made my position very clear.
Ah, I was wondering when you’d show up, @Gsus
Jakob also got a code to MixBox. I guess you should call him out as well.
YouTubers get codes to applications. I’m sorry, what is your basis of discussion?
... or @Gravitas , you could just ignore this person. If you think they're a troll, then feeding said troll is a sure fire way to sink your own thread while encouraging them in the process.
I'm off to do that myself now. The ratio of their non-contributing, fight-picking posts vs. anything relevant or helpful, is way past my tolerance. ymmv.
I actually used to think that way. But I realized…
There’s no sense in ignoring a troll. They’ll just keep trolling.
Call them out on their accusations. And let them defend themselves.
Worst case, you learn a lesson. And I did. Some of my threads are kinda click baity. Noted.
I hear you both.
That comment finally managed to get under my skin.
It irked me somewhat.
My apologies all round.
I also learnt something which is I can appear to be self righteous.
Noted.
Let's continue in a far more pleasant manner.
@seonnthaproducer - we'll have to agree to disagree on that point. 👍🏼
No worries, @wim . We’re always cool. I do learn a lot from your posts.
So ...
I have few thoughts on this discussion because ... coming out of the closet here 😂 ... because I hardly ever watch YouTube videos.
I just don't have the patience. When I'm going for a bit of information, I just can't stand wading through even a 10 minute video to get to it. The more fluff and personalization a content creator inserts, the less likely I am to watch. At the same time I appreciate the vast donation of time and emotional energy put into these contributions, I'm just not the market.
I wouldn't say that without a purpose. I'm speaking up because it's apparent to me that one of the realities of the market iOS music content creators are trying to reach is that it is hopelessly saturated. In business we used to think in terms of "Blue Ocean" strategy. In a nutshell, think of a shark trying to compete for food in a swarm of sharks vs. finding a piece of Blue Ocean to hunt in. Finding that Blue Ocean in the sea of YouTube content is a challenge but bears thinking about. It beats fighting for every scrap among the other sharks.
In other words, maybe rather than trying to find better ways to reach the same crowd, there are opportunities to draw in other crowds.
Someone like me may not be an edible fish as I probably could never be enticed to be a video consumer, but maybe there are still pockets of Blue Ocean out there that creatives such as yourselves can seek out using that innate creativity that you have.
Just a thought.
You and me both to a certain degree.
I hardly ever watch Youtube, I actually read manuals for entertainment
otherwise I'm plug in which you can see from my YouTube.
When I first started using YouTube I used it for some of my video documentaries
and eventually started using it for my iOS videos with full editing etc then
I realised how much work that involved and focused on other things like
testing for live streaming, screen ratios and I managed to get something
close to an anamorphic (cinematic) like look using only an iPhone and eventually a Pixel 5.
That's what I do every day.
Experiment and compose music.
See above.
Agreed.
The session musician scene here in the U.K is fierce so I hear you on the Blue Ocean.
Very true.
Ahhh..... I wouldnt want to eat you.
You're nice.
I would actually invite you to the table.
You've got some brilliant ideas and the stuff you do
with Bluetooth and Arduino is awesome and Mozaic....
Oh good gosh.
Good advice.
Taking this on board.
Oh Lord, that is one awkward statement right there. 😂
Lolololololol
Yeah,....you got me with that one.
i had to reply in kind. 😂😂😂
Here's an example of a channel I have watched when looking up hardware.
They are called "Bad Gear".
Their content is highly scripted, the video editing is sharp however the delivery may not be for everyone.
Here's an example of "Against the Clock",
Tangerine Dream
This piece is slightly longer than 10 mins.
It's 10min 55secs
Another "Against the Clock"
To clarify.
Quite a lot of what's going in the examples I've presented
could be done with the apps available on the iOS platform.
and I think I mentioned earlier on in this thread suggestions about performances using iOS apps.
Up until last year when I started investing in hardware again
my YouTube was almost pure iOS apps, external processors and audio interfaces.
I've been checking the quality and stability of the apps mainly for my own usage
which is if they would be acceptable in a professional setting such
as in a major recording studio and with the current setup I have I would say yes to both points.
From last year I've been experimenting with dRambo, Eurorack modular,
external midi hardware and most of the apps that I've purchased over the years.
Have a read here.
https://forum.beepstreet.com/discussion/1743/interfacing-drambo-with-eurorack/p1
Hence why I am looking towards the future and what that future content will be.
Here's one of my pieces that's on my YouTube.
Created using only an iPhone and an iPad.
Sound design created using dRambo and BeatMaker 3
Visuals created using LumaFusion.
Dear all,
I have to apologise to @seonnthaproducer and everyone else for my comment here.
It was misleading.
@seonnthaproducer and I had a discussion last night
and he explained the IK Multimedia code giveaway to me precisely.
He has also been explaining earlier on in this discussion and in this thread here
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/62529/ik-multimedia-free-mixbox-presets-from-seonn-in-celebration-of-our-5-year-ios-journey#latest
Once again thank you IK Multimedia and Seonn for MixBox.
I will be doing a writeup about how I'm using it together with dRambo and Loopy Pro at some point.
Anyway back on piste.
After Seonn and I had discussed this issue I came to the realisation
that the reason why it was confusing for many is because
of the logistics of getting codes out internationally and
how many promo codes an iOS company has.
iOS companies have a limited amount of free promo codes to give out.
Think of it as a company having to buy from their own stock.
One of those "bellyaching" issues that the iOS Platform has to face and many more on a regular basis.
There are many issues like this and maybe one day we'll have an open discussion about it.
This coud possibly lead to more empathy, patience and understanding on the iOS platform.
Great song (and props for using BM3; used to be my fave daw)
Agreed @Gravitas, we really need to do more video interviews. Or even a podcast. It’s funny how people think we’re the same person, but most of the time we’re very different musicians with diverse experiences. So whenever we meet up, or even have a discussion, we go through so many points that it’s insane.
From AI, to advanced Drambo techniques, to creative ways of using different iOS applications. I’ll be honest and say that my video technique got better because I got a better appreciation of what it takes to setup a shot from Gravitas.
That said, we’ve gone hours and hours in arguments as well.
Too bad I have to spend time with my family over here, and can’t be on the forums a lot. Teaching a 16 year old how to drive has been an eye opening experience, and it’s helped me understand…I’m getting older. My music tastes from Linkin Park, Chainsmokers, Justin Bieber, Foo Fighters, Guns and Roses, are considered outdated. I never heard of Lil Durk until he played it on the radio.
There’s a new generation of musicians who consider us ancient. And I’m in my 30s. While people were out there arguing about the Beatles, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam, the world moved on to what we have today. And soon, their music will be considered ancient.
Okay, we gotta have this discussion another time. I do have to go.
