    Well yeah....

I'm well known for being a maverick with strong opinions.

Now for those at the back (not you @yellow_eyez )
let's continue the discussion or is it going to be fisticuffs at dawn.

Let's be having ya either way. :)

Queensbury rules by the way. ;)

  • Going back to the thread deletion and banning, we have knewspeak kicking off Israel/Palestine politics again in another thread which I find far more damaging to this forum and fully against posting rules. It makes the criticism of iOS music channels seem pretty tame in comparison.

    Fair point.

I engaged over there myself so guilty as charged.

The title of that thread is pertinent given the current World situation
and Artists have every right to voice their politics.
John Lennon and Yoko Ono for example?
No matter which way we look at it politics will always
affect Artists because we are human after all and
we either stand for something or we fall for nothing.
Even censorship is politically or culturally motivated or both.

So let's continue with the discussion of this thread here
and leave that discussion to either remain or be deleted.
I don't think that discussion is to confrontational
however let the mods be the judge of that and
if anyone wants to engage there then do so like I did.

  • I think many of us can agree that the platform has a lot of hobbists
who are here for the apps and look at the iOS Tubers for entertainment
and view the work by the dev's and iOS Tubers as a labour of love,
there are many who don't to be fair.
Many of them engage with the content creators and like the content creators personal way of delivery.
Many like the giveways, some see it as being unfair when it's behind a paypal
some don't mind and some don't care.
There have been complaints about bellyaching and whining and from
the perspective of those users/members those complaints are valid however
from the perspective of the content creators who are apparently "bellyaching" it's not fair at all.
I err towards the latter rather than the former.
Life long musician and Artist here.
I've heard most of these complaints and similar before with the knowledge
that the general public don't give a (insert expletive here) though the complaints are valid.
The general public want entertainent not life stories unless the public like
the drama surrounding some artists and celebrities.
Artists are lambasted at any given time and that's why quite a few Artists
tend to have someone else do their social media for instance.

Now before we move on is there anything else that anyone would like to add to this?

Oh by the way where are the dev's in this discussion?
I wouldn't mind their opinion on the discussion and
if any do chime in please be civil to them, they code the apps that we all enjoy.
If they don't chime in I wouldn't be surprised as it could be bad for their business
however I think that their perspective is important in this discussion.

    Agreed.

    Just to reiterate.
I don't think the issue was with criticising the iOS platform
I think it was to do with the way the critisicm was delivered.
We're still having a constructive discussion about the iOS platform
I do believe and though some here have strong views (including myself)
we're all managing to be rather civil about it for the most part.

So getting back to iOS music video demos on YouTube, one of the things that makes it difficult to discuss this objectively is that the two most influential content creators in my book, Doug @thesoundtestroom and Jakob @jakoB_haQ, are such cherished members of the original scene. They are truly a part of the history and the fact that they still make engaging and artistic demos and overviews after all these years is just amazing. Very few YT content creators can play the keys like Doug, I could listen all day. He also just chills people out, it's like you are hanging with him in his studio or something. And Jakob always brings his excellent music and video production game, with a big heart and humour. I know this thread is about making iOS video coverage viable going forward but I just wanted to share a big thanks for Doug and Jakob.

So a question. Can financial viability for developers happen regardless of iOS music YouTube coverage, or are developers dependent on the YouTube coverage to succeed? Maybe it isn't as clear cut as that but I feel we need a bigger picture 'how can the scene be viable for the best developers' before we can really dig in to the 'how can the scene be viable for YouTube content creators' maybe?

    Agreed,
before I ended up on the forum they were the two that I saw
the most when looking for more information on iOS apps.

So a question. Can financial viability for developers happen regardless of iOS music YouTube coverage, or are developers dependent on the YouTube coverage to succeed?

I think the latter rather than the former simply because of the way the platform has evolved.
Dev's can't do everything and you need a production team to be able to show off your product.
iOS tubers remove the need for a full on inhouse production company or third party video editors and presenters.

Maybe it isn't as clear cut as that but I feel we need a bigger picture 'how can the scene be viable for the best developers' before we can really dig in to the 'how can the scene be viable for YouTube content creators' maybe?

Hence why I added "and the future of iOS platform" which granted is quite open ended
however it opens the discussion up for other relevant issues or topics.

  • Moving on with the discussion.

'how can the scene be viable for the best developers'

Does anyone have any suggestions for current iOS Tubers and future iOS Tubers
to gain, to maintain and/or increase their audiences and revenue for their labour of love?
without complaing about bellyaching I think that point has been made.
I'm not including myself in the YouTube side of things because I love the freedom
of the way I have created my content on YouTube, no one makes demands,
there are no tutorials as I tutor one to one and one of my side gigs is my Ko-fi page.
    See thread here;

    https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/62660/gravitas-ko-fi-page#latest

I do have suggestions which we will get to in the near future however
I am interested in the perspectives from the members here.

Semi-clad females or males or non-binary playing guitarists
are always an incentive for a certain demographic
however we have to keep it clean I'm sorry to say. :(
Still, semi-clad is preferable for most rather than full on nude
so maybe we should take that into consideration as well. ;)

I've noticed that I sometimes go watch Doug and Jakob even when I'm not that bothered by the products they are showing. Like comfort viewing of two nice guys that remind me of good times in iOS land.

Agreed there is a comfort in the familiarity of a presenter.
We see that right across the board in entertainment for instance.
News reporters. radio presenters, show hosts etc, etc.
Inevitably time passes, the audience changes and
sometimes something new or different is required.
Skantiliy clad females is not on the menu for those at the back who desire such things.
    See earlier comment. ;)
And I really don't see Doug and Jakob wanting to jump around in flagrante delicto
though it would garner a huge upswing in viewers.
Maybe it could set a trend.

    No, no, no....

    Seriously speaking now.

Is it that the audience wants to see something new or someone different?

Is it that the audience are bored?
    Audiences can be fickle?
It was mentioned earlier that some desired that the videos
should be shortened with less preamble and getting straight to the point.
My answer to that is read the manual however
my answer is combatative in this discussion so let's move swiftly on.

Obviously Patreons are on the table and Ko-Fi and similar have supporters (hint;) )
Still this is about the content and incentives for content creators for iOS.
Speaking personally if I were to start presenting apps then I really would need
third party editors or even a production company however
I cannot afford that service though I could provide that service for others if paid.
The finanical rewards of creating content for the iOS platform as mentioned before is very little.
Hence why I mentioned finanical incentives in an earlier comment.

And though scantily clad females etc are not on the menu
I do believe that it would be cool to have more females and non-binaries on the iOS platform itself.
I've seen a huge explosion of females and non-binaries
on other music platforms who are excellent musicians.
Musicians and Artists that were definitely not around
when I first started as a musician many, many moons ago.

  • So how about featuring Artists, Producers and content that use iOS apps?
How about seeing and encouraging how iOS apps are being used in real world situations?
    What about.....?

Agreed, I generally do tend to align with the ones that match my own viewpoints.
    That's human.
I didn't say I was unbiased at all.
Your viewpoints aren't either that's why they are view points.
    Opinions.
    Perspectives.
    Need I go on.

it was also pointless mentioning Apple

They literally are the only ones who decide and implement the future of the iOS platform. That’s why it isn’t pointless mentioning Apple! What a ridiculous comment to make. Strikes me, you unnecessarily shoehorned the future of the iOS platform into the topic as was pointed out by others earlier in the thread.

"iOS platform" in this context isn't the coding platform that Apple sustain.
    It's the community.
Sorry if I have to spell that out for you and I'm not going to get
into a slagging match about what Apple do and don't provide.
There are plenty of other threads and forums that do that.

Whatever you want. Reread yourself. You’re coming off that you really think you’re something your not.

    That's personal.

Explain to me how I'm coming across for the benefit of everyone else and those at the back.
Oh you're not going to bother anyway....

Like I said, ridiculous, narrow-minded and not worth me bothering with.

You didn't mention any of this earlier and likewise you're not worth bothering about with that tone.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Likewise.

The level of this discussion is truly astonishing… in a few years AB may sink to a kindergarten level.

Either full on echo chamber or fight till ban. 👏

Yeah, I'm trying to steer it towards viable solutions
wiithout to much bloodshed however it is what is.

Is there anyone who thinks that these threads will provide actual solution?
