Thank you so much @cokomairena
Really good suggestions btw. Thank you for sharing that, it answered several questions.
Have you ever figured out Ryo's Towagas piano roll? I think the only audio apps I ever rage quit was his piano roll, and FieldScaper
piano roll is great but i get annoyed by the need to switch between selection and pencil tools - on desktop computer a keyboard shortcut would enable this, on iOS it seems hard to quickly achieve
Seems like > @drewinnit said:
seems like something you could do with the pro pencil
Never used that one
A single tap is hard to quickly achieve?
Oh, my mini 6 pencil (i have no idea the model) has a doble tap feature, it would be very nice
it's not the tap it's the re-orientation to the tool bar
maybe for you it's simple, just speaking about what troubles me with it
I think you can do this alredy, in both piano roll and in song timeline. Try dragging the loop start marker
you can do that but it only affect that particular clip, not the context of the other instruments which will be playing in a totally different time
I would think there is a lot coming for it.. seems like the heart of the app.. with midi import, clip saving/loading, scale/key quantizing…Like a Bloc Waves Midi thing..
Yeah. Best piano roll implementation on iOS.
Sign me for ALL this ! Very good ideas for improvement !
Using the piano roll made me like it more. Step sequencer is not jive-ing with me.
I've come to like the step sequencer now that I "get" it. At first I thought it was terrible.
The only thing I would really like to see is auto selection of the piano roll note when you tap to enable a step.
👏👏👏
Brilliant.
I wish there was a more traditional step sequencer. Hit the step button and then put in random notes from the keyboard and the notes auto advance at the current grid level.
We went full piano grid and i'm not even mad But yeah, I imagine the step sequencer will be improved, for now I might use drambo for any step sequencer tasks and then print
Hope One day too, So much simpler and faster, less control but more fun 😊
Have the possibility to draw velocity with finger too 😎
Agree, I had the same thought. That would be much more intuitive.
Hi all!!!
New to this forum and iPad music production in general.
Nice meeting you all.
Long opening post incoming I'm afraid. Hope that's ok. You all seem really nice so I'm going to take a chance.
In my studio I usually create beats on my mpc, export the stems to Reaper, there I add guitar/vocals, mix and then master.
I'm telling you all this because when I decided I wanted a portable groovebox to sketch ideas when I'm away from the studio, it was important to me that I could somehow recreate that workflow.
When I got my iPad last week I made a post on Reddit asking what was the app that could closely mirror my mpc experience. As you can imagine I got all the usual responses beatmaker 3, drambo, cubasis etc. but one person mentioned grooverider 2 and he posted a link to The Sound Test Rooms set up video. I watched and what caught my eye was that it had a song mode. You see I'm very much a songwriter who makes beats. Yes I like synths and all that stuff but at the end of the day I'm more into songs than sound design. It looked fairly straight forward and I didn't mind the apparent limitations because A. This is for sketches and B. I welcome that stuff, it's the reason why I stepped away from the daw and started using the mpc, I get bogged down with choice paralysis when I have too many options.
Anyway I finally picked it up yesterday and I've got to say I'm really impressed. I cooked up a full song really fast. My only other purchase apart from GR2 was TALs Juno 60 emulator which is awesome and better than the MPCs own version imo. However I probably didn't need to because the in built synth is more than useable.
The only point I got a bit bogged down is when I wanted to take my idea from clip mode to song mode. I had to do a lot of copy and pasting of parts. I'm hoping that was just me being new to the app and there's a more intuitive way.
I had loads of fun and I can't wait for my dongle to arrive so I can hook up a midi controller. I couldn't find my bt mouse so I thought it was going to be a chore but the app is optimised extremely well for touch.
The only thing I need now is to be able to export stems and it will be perfect. Oh and autosave of course lol.
Sorry about the long opening post.
Just needed to get all that off my chest.
Oh and thanks to the person who weeded out the decent soundfonts. There was some really good stuff there.
Sound For More just posted a new video regarding song mode so I'm off to watch that.
Oh lastly thanks to those guysv- sound for more and - sound test room - for the vids. They have been excellent and really helpful.
Ok that's it, I'm out.
Welcome to iOS music-making, @SmushMilo! Nice to have you here - it's great to hear that you've been getting along so well with GR2.
Welcome to the forum @Smushmilo. We’re glad to have you here.
I too have struggled to find a smooth workflow between clip mode and the timeline. Hopefully there will be some refinement there. It’s workable enough for me as long as I just force myself to patiently copy to the timeline one clip at a time.
I’ve been switching to Song Mode, entering record, then triggering loops or scenes which are added to the timeline in real time, in effect recording a clip performance. Not sure if that would be an improvement for you, but it works well for me.
Thanks, yeh, I still need to explore that workflow. It doesn't seem like it's going to work real well for me since there's nothing really to help identify which clips are which. When I want to make changes it's going to be hunt and chop, move, lose track of where I am ... I'm almost certain that won't work out, but hope to be wrong.
It would be useful to have text labels on clips. These would be especially useful in the timeline where there’s more real estate to render them.
Wavetable folder import has a bug. Can't import more than one folder. Subsequent folders are getting put into Samples folders.
Works fine here if I copy the folders in using the files app. Even nested folders work.
I'm trying the new import option for folders inside the app, which is having this bug. Doesn't copying folders in Files create duplicates?
No. Not physically anyway.
