Yeah , I know the parts volume can be mapped , but would be more efficient to be able to see the mixer faders , while jamming ( I guess depends on the workflow ) . I like the song mode too…and sometimes I like to jam straight from the mixer view and record that…especially if you’re using midi controllers ( like faderfox mx12)
Possibly stupid question from someone who has not as yet gelled with clip based composing. After creating a bunch of clips how does one then work/order these into a composition that can be exported?
'Wouldn't mind' is nowhere near strong enough - I'd say it's obligatory at this point to have search functionality for this, as the list can be so long for power users!
Long press on clip , copy and paste it into song mode> @Cambler said:
I also have trouble scrolling to the end of the list on my screen.
or
Turn on SongMode, Press record, jam with your clips, the output will go into the song timeline
parts volume it's exactly the same as mixer faders, they are just presented different, but it's exactly the same parameter
did you report it by email, I have the same problem! I just don't want to send a duplicated request
I didn’t. I have a habit of complaining too much so I’ve been trying to be more patient lol
Yeah totally, it’s about the whole project levels in an overview…it’s like having presonus faderport controller or an actual mixer with all channels in front of you!> @cokomairena said:
I sent a mail
Aha! Thank you, this was the sort of thing I was thinking about. I assume the advantage of clips is their performative nature so this sounds like the way to go.
When you map the Level of the track on the sound page (the knob all the way at the right), when you switch to the mixer page and move the assigned knob, the faders on the mixer page move 😉
Uhh..now that's sneaky
...thanks for the tip> @Frank303 said:
It works as long as you have only one part...I loaded a second one and the mapping moves over to the next one> @Sergiu said:
Ooh i get you, does this happen with both single and poly midi in options?
Haven’t tied it yet with those settings> @cokomairena said:
Others have already answered about the timeline, but there are also ways to arrange songs in the clip launcher.
The first is to think of every row as a "scene" of clips that you want to play together. The play button at the right of each row will trigger all clips in that row to start together. You can arrange by rows by copying clips here and there. Then you can launch each row in order. As soon as a scene starts playing, you can queue up the next row whenever you like.
The other is to think of each part (column) as an independently sequence able track. By hitting the Gear icon at the top-right you expose controls that you can set for number of repeats and which clip gets triggered next in that column.
To a timeline oriented person that's a very different workflow, and may not be helpful. But sometimes different approaches open up new avenues of creativity and spontaneity.
Since you can record clip performances to the timeline, these can also be a quicker, more interactive, way of getting a start on a timeline based arrangement, to be adjusted later.
I prefer to record directly to the timeline but clip actions are cool for randomization
Same.
Just listing all the options for completeness.
I do find arranging in scene rows in the clip launcher a little less clunky way of at least organizing the clips I want playing together at any one time than using the timeline, which I find a bit clunky to use at this time.
With so little available in the way of labeling, moving things around on the grid seems simpler to me. Then dumping to the timeline is just a matter of walking through the rows rather than trying to remember a bunch of combinations of nameless clips in the grid, what order I want to play them when dumping into the timeline, and then where they ended up once I do.
Ran into a bug. Loading a drum rack into an existing part (overwrite layer) crashes GR-2 . Is anyone else experiencing this? I’m on latest iOS on an M1 iPad.
Gonna send a bug report.
Can’t replicate on iPad 8 18.3.1. Maybe it’s an M1 issue?
@wim you are a total legend. This explanation and approach has provided my first proper explanation of, and usable approach for the use of clips. Really appreciate you taken the time out with this.
Quick stupid question. How do you record your clip performances to the timeline? Ie. not just transferring one clip at a time.
Not a stupid question at all. It's not at all obvious.
It just started happening the past couple of days. It wasn’t happening before. I emailed a bug report. We’ll see.
@reezygle i did a quick test and my drum rack loaded without crashing. M2 Pro, iOS 16
Hope the bug gets squashed quickly for those affected by it
Edit - have you tried loading different drum racks? Might it be a sample in a certain rack?
Mine load ok, might be a sample, maybe send the drum you are loading
didja try a reboot?
