Insert FX per Drumkit part would be nice. Who generally wants all the same FX on a whole kit??

    I do for MIDI Fx.

I use Drum Computer and map each drum computer track to a drum in the gr 2 drum track. I can do it with having each drum sound on a different part. IMO it would be more efficient to do it all in a single drum kit part vs creating a separate part for each drum sound.

Sorry, I probably didn't explain very well.

A part can have a Drum Rack layer with 16 different drum hits in the single part, which is very nice to have. However, if you want to, say, have reverb on only the snare, or delay on only the hats, you can't do it. Insert FX are applied to all of the samples in that layer. That severely limits the usefulness of the Drum Rack part type.

Sure, I can eat up additional Parts for individual hits, but that defeats the purpose of the Drum Rack part type and also makes sequencing far more cumbersome.

Here is a video on how to use the excellent built in synth and how to save custom layer presets and also how to save custom part presets.
You can then use your own presets in other projects.

Great video Doug! This thing is amazing and I feel I have barely scratched the surface. It’s going to be hard for any other releases this year to beat this, and we’re only a month in!

I realized you meant audio Fx after I replied. 🙂

Yes I agree with what you say regarding separate Fx inserts for each drum hit in the same drum rack. Right now it’s basically treats it at one instrument. Probably no multi out for individual drum hits either.

Another thing missing: cant add AU midi fx in front of drum rack tracks.

When loading into a layer on a part using the browser and already have something in Layer 1, such as a MIDI Fx, it seems like you have to add a new layer and choose something first like a synth, then replace it with the selection from the browser. I don’t see a way to add directly to Layer 2 from the browser. If there’s a better way to achieve this, I’d be happy to know.

**Edit: It’s a bit quicker to Long Press on Layer 1 and then copy and paste into Layer 2, then use the browser to overwrite Layer 2 with your choice.

  • Is there really no option for rendering out a live session of clip launching?

This was such a pleasure cruise for a first play around. I concluded the night by saving project again, quitting the app, and was pleased that when i reopened my project, AU instruments reloaded and were properly state saved. This is my first Jim Audio app. The UX is so fluid. The small details. Don’t know why i waited this long. Better late than never. Congratulations!

What happens with the demo projects if you don’t have pure acid and poison?

There’s an offer of a 5 Day Trial for both if you press and hold where it says Demo Mode. I’m hoping @jimpavloff offers a bundle or a discount, like he did just before Christmas. I’ve never felt inclined to get either but would consider if discounted or bundled just to complete GRII, having shelled out quite a bit for it.

    💯

    +1 on both

Great video , makes me want it despite knowning cb3 is where i usually play; but still , i think this was done on purpose; CrUSH 2025 app of the year early on; opposite of klevgrand with one shot closing the 2024 with a ❗️ bang

Not exactly a solution, but if you have two layers loaded in a part, you can long-press either layer to display a popup menu which includes the option of Move Left or Move Right, swapping the order of the layers.

    Yep!

I can see how that would need some major re-architecting though. I think just being able to route midi between tracks would solve it completely for me.

    Just hit record?

    Running on the ipad mini:

  • Is the retrigger element from GR16 available? Can’t see an option below to select those great rolling retriggers from the original app (which from memory also offered sample reverse in same UI element)

  • I can’t believe all this is done using 92MB of memory.

It seems it was replaced by the 'brush tool', but the reverse is still in there...

I’ve got to be wrong but I don’t see a way to have it play in the background?

Did you try enabling Background Play in Settings | Audio?

  • Been playing with this most of the day. It’s awesome.
It’s also super efficient which really helps with battery life.

Is there a quicker workflow to record a multi-bar pattern than to

    • Go to the clip screen
    • Add a clip
    • Hit the Edit button
    • Drag the end marker out, or press the hamburger menu and select duplicate loop enough times to get it to the length you want?

Ideally I'd like to just have a button to engage to have it auto expand by bars on an empty clip until I stop recording. I also wish I didn't have to jump to the clip screen to add a clip, but I can live with that one.

  • I feel very comfortable with the piano roll, good stuff!

Nope - I’m just half blind or brain dead atm - you can decide 🤣 thanks!

I hope in an update you’re able to connect multiple midi devices in the dropdown list, looking for another way to connect my faderfox ec4 and my MPK keyboard

Thanks! This is super helpful for finding things that I didn't realise were there. However, I'm trying to follow through it all, but when I try and do the "now I'm going to use this soundfont" section, the app either fails to load the soundfont, or crashes.

The "ChateauGrand-Plus-Instruments-bs16i-v4" soundfont you're using is the one from soundfonts4u, right? I'm wondering if it's too large for my ipad's memory (2019 ipad air 3rd gen) -- if I try the other '...plus instruments' soundfonts from that page, they also crash, though they're even bigger which might still be the problem.

(I could just use the builtin soundfont as far as learning-the-app goes, I'm just wondering how you were able to get the chateaugrand-plus-instruments one to work)

You can also just change bar length in the pattern menu. Seems that every new clip will use that length till you change it again. Setting number of bars on the clip dropdown would have been more intuitive.

That helps too. Most of what's needed is there ... someplace. Just gotta find it all. 😉
    Thanks!
