  • By the way, your samples should be 44.1k mono samples. If they aren't, best to convert them using another program.

I know the answer to this one!

Put your wav files into the Samples folder.

I think you're now trying to LOAD KIT.

    Don't!

Instead, tap on the NAME of a sample all the way down at the bottom of the screen, under all the dials. THAT's the load sample. You can then choose the source Dropbox.

Sweet! Working like a charm. TY!

    PRESS RELEASE

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Vibrant Digital Engineering releases version 1.1.0 of its acclaimed Diode-108 Drum Machine for iPad

Vibrant’s Diode-108 gets a variety of new features with the latest release, including MIDI Note In with MIDI Learn, MIDI sync to allow Diode-108 to sync with popular iPad software like Cubasis, Gadget, and Loopy, support for more interapp standards such as AudioShare and AudioCopy, and new Special FX.

Diode-108, initially released just last month, is the first product released by Vibrant Digital Engineering, a new company in Eugene, Oregon formed by former Disney and Sony consumer software developers with credits on dozens of shipped titles over the past few decades.

The drum machine is notable for per-step effects, Note Mode pitched drum and melody-making support, and over 40 licensed drum kits from respected sample providers Dubsounds, Samples From Mars, Orange Tree Samples, and 99Sounds. Loading samples, mixing and matching kits, making new kits, and sharing kits is fully supported.

Songs can easily be constructed by dragging and dropping patterns into a song list, and drum sounds can be altered in myriad ways.

New features in 1.1.0 include AudioShare and AudioCopy (in addition to Dropbox support) for easy sample import and sharing, MIDI Note In with learn support, MIDI sync for tempo matching and automated start/stop for tight coordination of multiple iPad apps, and three new Special FX.

With Diode-108’s controls, it’s easy to build amazing new grooves. Diode-108 is already being used by musicians, and the new features make this drum machine even more useful.

Diode-108 is available for iPad iOS 7.1 or better for the introductory price of $5.99. Visit http://www.diode-108.com. Demo videos at https://goo.gl/vQh8KD

Thanks, that was a big one. Next releases will be smaller features and improvements before we throttle up again with more big features.

This weekend we'll update the manual with MIDI info and get a FAQ started with details on MIDI Sync with other apps.

  • Great job Diode! Now I'll use it more and more.Thank you very much

  • @Diode108 I know you know this but your participation / attention / dialogue in this thread alone has really galvanized a true loyalty to you. You're absolutely showing them (the obligatorily absent-father developers / companies) how it's done. Also Thank You for the update and keep on!

  • Indeed, we do know how important this forum is! We appreciate the support. When we have new products, this is where we will come first for beta testers.

  • @Diode108, I spotted a review claiming no choke groups? If so, is this a feature you plan to include? Apologies if this question has already been answered on this thread and I missed it.

  • edited May 2015

Yeah, choke groups are soon. We have to get it right because any instrument slot can be any sound. For now you'll have to go to FX and drop volume on open hats when closed hats start (I know that's not ideal). We have a lot of little tweaks like this coming, including placing start and stop markers in the song list so you can loop any group of patterns while you are working on them.

  • @Diode108 Well done team! Was learning/playing with your per note tuning last night (following on from watching the vid again) and found my frustration at no audiocopypaste force-multiplied by the lack of simple copy this cool pattern right now into gadget, but no more.... thanks so much. For many of us this is a Rubicon crossed....

  • Thank you @Diode108. What a great update. This makes your app really useful.

Glad to hear this, thank you for your quick response :)

  • No flippin wifi! Got to wait till I get home! :-(

@eustressor, we probably would have addressed choke earlier, but the cry for MIDI and AudioShare/AudioCopy was enormous. It's hard to know what to do first because there is so much to do! We want to get workflows as efficient as possible, maintain the quirkiness that makes Diode-108 unique (and we hope well-loved), and put out some OMG I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING features, too.

  • Hi ,

Something strange happens with LoopyHD. The only way to sync diode108 is setting the midi channel to "Omni"... What is more weird is I have to actually disable sending clock from loopy ,else it doubles the tempo!

I'll take a look at it those quirks. It's pretty easy to get double tempo in all sorts of ways on the iPad because Diode-108 can either select an app to listen to or an app can select Diode-108 to send to. If you do both, you get double tempo.

Our beta testers said Loopy was a yes. As we build up our MIDI FAQ this weekend we'd be glad to hear all the details of how people get things to work best. And it's super high priority that we fix anything awful.

I'm buying more apps than I ever thought I would, thanks to MIDI. :-)

  • Ah yes, I just checked this. As @Diode108 suggests, it works fine for me if either Diode-108 has Loopy HD checked as a clock sync OR Loopy HD has Diode-108 set as clock output but not both, unless you want crazy-fast beats.

WHO DOESN'T WANT CRAZY FAST BEATS?!?

Haha, yes it's a nice feature to have available ;)

  • Echoing what others have already said, but it's fantastic how quickly Diode-108 has gained really practical features. It's only been out a little over a month and it's gone from a cool standalone drum machine to a very solid and inspirational MIDI-capable one, with useful import/export options. Great work!

We've kept our Soundcloud up to date with songs that we've found that use Diode-108. Please tag your songs Diode-108 or drop us a line at our support email if you've done something with Soundcloud that we can link to. People have already done some awesome things. Lots of variety!

  • Thanks Diode. It syncs perfectly with Cubasis. It was great when you came to the AB forum to hear our problems with the app. I will be first in line to buy your next app!

  • Yes I can only get the clock sync to work when I set it to omni mode in the app.

OK. We'll have to do something about that.

  • Thanks @Diode108. I also noticed that the gui defaults to the splash screen when switching apps and it takes some (little) time to show the workspace. The lag isn't annoying at all but it's noticeable when a stress my iPad with other heavy apps. I suspect you close the gui to save cpu cycles when diode108 is in the background ?

  • Hi, really liking this app. Can it be used as a master clock sync? Want to be able to send clock out to my DSI Pro 2 to run the sequencer. I don't think there is a clock out option in Diode, please correct me if I am wrong. If I am right would it be possible to add master clock out to Diode. Many thanks - The Lurcher

  • And new audiobus panel with play/stop buttons please!!!( we are greedy!)

  • Hi @diode108 further to my previous question, if it is possible to make diode 108 a master clock could you also add clock divide options. I can run both diode and the hardware sequencer via midibus, but to get tempo's I want I am having to set the sequencer to a clock divide of 1/32 where I would love to them to match at 1/16. I would like to cut midibus out of the equation, I am running ipad 2 and also running other apps at the same time so the less apps I have to run simultaneously the more my ipad 2 can cope. The app sounds great and if I was able to do this it would immediately become my go to drum app. Really impressed by how quickly you have been responding to us users, keep it up. Many thanks.

We are covering up initializing OpenGL. We'll look into shortening that if we can.
