Can you imagine the frankensynth that would result!?
I have to battle this in my day job. It's called 'design by committee'
What do you get if you design a racehorse by committee?
A camel.

why he's got balls growing on top of his head instead of hair and his tie has an erection, wtf?
Go Go Gadget Petition!
Ditto. I'm rebranding an organisation with the Committee From Hell. Just when you think you've nailed the design....
You beat me to it. It's a lot like Native Instruments system in Komplete. I think Cyclop is the only iOS synth that has this kind of search function.
So, no way to delete user presets? Or do you have to go through iTunes or something?
Edit:
Bleh...

Bush league.
What the deal with that deleting presets? Is it such a problem? So lot of apps has this cant-delete-presets feature
@Goozoon @1P18
1)Open the Presets panel
2)Click User
3)Swipe from the right side of the preset you want to remove & the red delete option will show
4)Press the red Delete button
@philowerx that's Egoist not Cyclop
I don't have Cyclops but it should work the same in other SugarByte apps. This is the way it's done in Thesys, Effectrix & as you noted Egoist.
@philowerx It's not the same in Cyclop
Could be wrong, but the file system is quite different in Cyclop. I actually love the rating and tag system here, but I see no way to delete unfortunately....
Wow! No in app user delete would be a serious over site on SugarBytes behalf especially since it's provided in their other apps. Color me shocked.
Can't even overwrite user presets. So if you make a few changes, save again, you get another preset with the same name.
I like Sugar Bytes' stuff, but man this is pretty sloppy.
This is the kind of thing that often comes along pretty quickly after release (once folks bark some , so I'm surprised SB hasn't done the decent thing etc. So much going on with this app, but in some front and center ways it feels like the ship has been spoiled for a ha'p'orth of tar etc.
Doesn't bother me to be honest, the file manager and rating system is so much better than other apps having lots of presets is not really an issue.
@monzo What is your take on this a few months in? I fiddled about with it (happily) upon release and have been promising myself a proper revisit, but haven't had the mental strength etc.
I haven't used it in tracks much, but enjoy mucking about with it. To be honest I've been busy with work anyway. Still glad I bought it though.
@monzo Yeah once you figure things out you can work around not being able to delete presets, it's just mildly annoying, and also sticks out as a pretty glaring error when attached to such a mighty synth.
@JohnnyGoodyear You didn't ask me but since I took the time to explore it last night I'll answer: it is a brilliant synth. It's driven by two synth engines which can be blended together in varying degrees and each have 6 different synth types, and then it has modulation options up the wazoo. Those are the two main things to sink your teeth into, the synth engine and the modulation options. To top it off it has a small Effectrix type of effects section.
I was getting a lot of digital sounding evolving type of stuff, but's it's readily apparent that this is far more than just a baseline wobble monosynth. You could pretty easily use it for lead melodies, pads, and even rhythmic stuff as well.
Best part about it is that it sounds unique. Something you can't say for a lot of synth out there.
I don't think not being able to delete presets should hold anyone back, yet at the same time Sugar Bytes needs to get on the ball and add a simple delete option for user presets.
Should also say, it's a relatively easy synth to get into, even if it may look and sound a bit intimidating. The manual has a good introduction section that sort of lays it all out for you and gives you a good overview. So getting a handle on it doesn't take too long.
Wolfgang Palm's PPG WaveGenerator which came out in September 2013 has a similar file and rating system. Definitely a nice touch. SB should update Cyclops with a in app delete button.
what kinds of sounds are you folks after with this thing?
i Just started playing around with cyclop and thought I would do the 'rate the presets first' aproach that @RustiK mentioned. Anyway, it ended up being 75% i will never use or work off of and about 25% of which I will either use or build off of. That is a pretty good ratio to me. The direction i am most interested in is quirky rythmic, vintage scifi playful / atmospheres. I am not into anything that sounds like the gates of hell opening to devour my soul or being digested by a transformer. But yah it does what it does super well.
Definitely, I think they're underselling it and limiting their market by promoting it as a bass synth - it does so much more, a really unique, powerful synth. And easier to use than it might appear.
@1P18 @monzo Thanks gents. Have a very (very) long layover at JFK tomorrow and have promised myself some left field noodle time; this is on the list for sure.
Pleased to see you bought it! I was presented with an iRig Pro as a birthday prezzie yesterday, so when the work dust settles I'll be laying down some Cyclop bass lines and adding some guitar over the top. Might even have something for the SOTM if I pull my finger out.
Happy Birthday @monzo!
Thank you
@monzo Yes, one more circle around the sun. No small achievement, well done.
I DID buy it, oddly because I decided that one of my (many) weak spots was a general disregard for bass which needed addressing and then, as you and others have mentioned, I soon realized that this one-eyed monster is a fair amount more than just that. I am intimidated (nothing new here) by the number of complex and vicious noises available (few of which I would ever use), but it's very obviously a Real Thing and Not To Be Dismissed.
Look forward to hearing how your new bit of kit is, but in the meantime which sequencer thingie do you find most amenable/easy to use in conjunction with Cyclop...?
