The legendary M1 on an iPad. This is awesome Korg. Now if Korg can release the Wavestation and Roland release the D50 on iPad that would be fantastic.
@johnnygoodyear - just woken up in London.
Need to find some time today. This evening probably.
I'm most interested in what's been done to Gadget to be honest.
Midi Out (real time)? Or just Midi Export?
Anything else?
Midi export is ok I guess but midi out would be amazing. Bit annoying if it's not there still.
Midi export means having to export the midi for your non gadget part, finding another midi player (ProMidi) then import into this and use this, in sync, to drive Thor (or whatever 3rd party app)... Quite a faff. And might as well write the midi straight into ProMidi (unless complicated).
I was expecting iM1 in the list of gadgets but wait, Darwin? Shouldn't it be Inagi (since Tokyo's taken)?. I hope I don't wake up one day and impulse buy Darwin thinking it is something else.
Oh, by the way. I got a 5 string banjo yesterday on gumtree for £25!
It only comes with one sound though.
I'm a bit annoyed actually. 6 months, and it gets midi export (not sure why I'd ever use this - I want Gadget to be my DAW) and copy and paste of notes (something you can do anyway, it's just a small usability improvement).
Hardly groundbreaking. And they did say when they released it (now deleted from the description) that it would have audio tracks at some point.
I'm interested in the M1. I'll buy it and check it out. But that's a new purchase. I had hoped that Gadget itself would move forward a bit in 6 months. (Eg midi out, multiple gadget midi in, longer sample import length... That's not even asking for basic stuff other proper DAWs have like IAA and MidiTracks).
Seems like they still want to keep Gadget hobbled in terms of being an actual destination DAW. Will this ever happen? I thought when they released it, this was what they were going for.
And now on Radio 2 it's an 80's special, featuring RICK ASTLEY
I was excited until I saw that video, cheesy 80s sounds are not my thing, so need some convincing. BUT BILBAO IS ALL MINE. Nice because I was just about to buy it anyway.
I got Bilbao too @monzo
With that (daw export) @Matt_Fletcher_2000 I think they're trying to tell you that audio track will never happen.
I'll need to hear a bit more what the iM1 can do (nearly bought a real one in the 90's for 500 quid), but it'd certainly make Gadget more of a self-contained production unit. I haven't got the iPolysix but Gadget integration is more important for me now.
Only had a quick play but Bilbao does exactly what I'd hoped, look forward to using that when I get the chance.
Hesitating with the Gadget update....
On its way
@supadom you are probably right. But this disappoints me since they specifically said they'd add audio tracks when they released Gadget.
That aside, midi out, for example would be really useful because you could integrate other synths with your track, live and synced. You could compose using non-gadget sounds. But still it's not possible to really compose Gadget tracks and involve other synths. Guess they don't want me to do this either?
That aside, would be nice if there was some development advances in Gadget every 6 months or so (as there were before) - I'd happily buy them. So maybe proper send FX, some in-Gadget audio trimming, a new Gadget that gives you some extra functionality (keyboard based sampler?) etc. Stuff that makes it closer to the pro music studio they talked about.
I'll check out iM1. But it's more ROMPLER sounds like Module was. It's like buying an expansion pack. I'll buy it. But I hoped the deal was kind of that some of the money they'll make from the business model of Module and M1 (which I hope does really well) goes into moving Gadget forward.
Anyway, I better actually go and spend my money and then report back. I'm sure I'll love the Kaos pad in Darwin.
Cheers, Doug. Looking forward to it!
It was my favorite hardware synth I owned and then it was my favorite VST for years
I really dont need im1. But thinking of buying it anyway just to support future advancements to Gadget.
I suspect I'll pick this up eventually. But I'm not a big fan of 80's-90's pop music, and I tend more towards noise creation. But I freakin' love Gadget, and the completist in me compels me to get this new gadget.
This really is a great replacement for Alchemy, as you can build your own mega layers and stuff, but the most amazing thing is that even with all the expansion cards the whole app is less than 100mb. And honestly some of the most amazing sounds you will here from anything
How much are the expansion cards?
divided into two IAP's at £3.99 each, so everything for $10 or £8
Really Doug? I love your videos, I watch them all. But it seems like your recommending everything. I know you're just testing the app and letting the viewers decide for themselves and i know new releases are always exciting but now that IOS is loaded and ever expanding with new music creation apps i hope you'll start adding more criticism as we really need to start separating the good from the really good or our pockets will just get emptier and our creativity confused.
Unlike the original M1 the filter can be switched to resonant mode.
Try and look at this this way, if I don't like it I won't demo it, and sorry for being enthusiastic about the apps, I do like them but I am generally an upbeat person, All I'm doing is showing you the app as I see it
Thanks Doug, that's not bad. Exceptional value considering the cost of the original, and all the extra packs.
If I wasn't such a noise merchant I'd snap this up straight away, be nice to see what else it can do - as well as 80's easy listening. I notice a couple of banks titled 'orchestral, and 'ethnic' which would be of interest.
Looking forward to your vid.
Sorry Doug I meant no disrespect. I hope you're not takings this the wrong way i love your demos their very informative. I just think criticism will help us too and promote competition between developers.
In a way I'm amazed how much love gadget gets compared to how much hate tabletop gets.
I love it. For my song writing experiments, I've been using Auxy + bs-16i, thumbjam, etc
Auxy is nice and user-friendly but very limited. Gadget + iM1 is a killer combination for me.
So happy they've added midi export to Gadget
iM1 may sound outdated but I don't care. If I want better sound I can always export my song to a midi file and move to Cubasis or even to Cubase or Live on my desktop machine, and finish it there
Actually @supadom - Korg still says this "There's a roadmap for future updates that will add new gadgets and support audio tracks, further perfecting the system as a mobile music production studio." on their website here:
http://www.korg.com/za/products/software/korg_gadget_for_ipad/
Be nice to know how long the road is going to be .
None taken, I have amended my reply as it came across as too harsh
Here is my demo for the iM1, hope you guys enjoy it http://thesoundtestroom.com/korg-im1-the-big-soundtest-for-ipad-awesome-synth/
Awesome !! A Korg M1 for £23 including IAPs. Bargain of the year. This synth WAS the synth with that incredible sound and I lusted after it but could never afford it Now on my iPad for less than 25 quid and with over 3000 sounds.
This is not a synth of the 80's and 90's - controversy. It is just a synth. Use your ears to make the sounds become your sound. Think Different. That's my approach anyway. Who says this is not a game changer? An M1 in your bag ready to be played out on the park or sitting on the throne and more Been playing the sounds from my Roland VG 99 guitar synth. Huge palette of noise, melodic and funky noise. Well done Korg.
And you are a massive benefit to us all in doing so. I enjoy your enthusiasm and am likewise pretty f@*#ing amazed by a lot of the stuff that has come to the iPad.
On another note. I think we have got a lot more than a rompler with iM1 and Darwin. Have been playing around with the synth engine for the last hour, and you can get some real nice noises with it. I managed to get one of my own to transfer over to Darwin but haven't been able to repeat the process. Think it will greatly expand the palette of sounds in Gadget when you can easily transfer them from iM1
Thank you, Doug. Checking it out now
I have the same issue as some others on here, with IAP expansions not showing up inside Darwin/Gadget. Anyone managed to find a way to fix this (besides deleting/reinstalling Gadget)?
