In celebration of the Quantovox 3 year anniversary

The quality/value of ringatron is a topic I exhaust my contemporaries with on the regular. Now Real Phase has offered up an additional course to an already carefully curated meal that had us totally sasiated. Now we fatten on the corpses of deprecated AU's and Granulators that Quantavox unalived.

  • Miscellaneous Free IAPs

  • Samplr and Borderlands are two non-AU apps that are still worth having because their interfaces are that good.

In the modular landscape of AUv3 it's easy to forget to go deep with one app.

    Totally agree.
Id love em to be auv3 but i basically treat them like an external instrument . They are that good and no one’s really made an auv3 quite like em

+1 they are both excellent, perhaps the most playble of the samplers and definitely worth it despite only being IAA. Samplr has a "Back to IAA host" button, Borderlands could really do with one, but with a bit of care they integrate very well into an AUM live rig.

  • A couple Music App IAPs on Sale

  • True @offbrands i guess it’s mostly about how you like to create and one’s workflow, which is a personal preference. I still use several IAA or core midi only apps.

So, I got STRNG- ran it thru all of my midi generators and it all sounded like shit, unless I use an actual controller. weird right?

So I loaded it up in MidiStep and it sounds absolutely incredible. I'm not certain why midisteps excelled where the other generators failed.

I haven't tried it in Harmonicer yet- but anyone have a similar experience with STRNG? Like I was super dissapointed, until I heard it in midisteps. Maybe it's hard to get lush sounds with it, I dunno. I usually use MODAL for string stuff.

I’ve never gotten s t r n g to sound good lol. Everytime I open it I end up disappointed again. Kind of just let it gather digital dust at this point.

Really isn't well designed, even for what it is. Hard to play, poorly calibrated envelope, etc. Sad consolation prize for missing the tardigrain sale, lol. Gawd I wish I would just watch a Doug vid before buying something. That's what he's there for!

$9 total in pointless trinkets isn't too bad I guess for the season, though I should've taken the forum's advice and just bought one cool thing like MidiStep, or for gawd sakes Hilda.

I’m not great with hearing envelopes but it’s something I hear often in music related threads about apps and I would love to know how to hear a good one compared to a…. Less than good one. If you have any tips or somewhere to point I’d appreciate it. I suppose I could duck duck go it but my minds a blank on what to search 😅

Ah, while envelope-nuance-detection is indeed a honed sense (and definitely not placebo :p), I rather meant that e.g. the attack range is scaled way too far, making it impossible to set precisely within the ~0-10% range, and useless after ~40%.

I'm in the same boat, not sure how the hell people are seeing a difference between this $100 compressor and that $10 compressor with the same number of knobs. Like, it compresses, dunnit? That being said... It's easy enough to tell the flat/stepped/rigid response of a 90s toy digi synth or a lot of 1st-2nd-gen VST's after being spoiled on the curved/smooth/dynamic response of everything about a Minimoog, for example.

Can anyone get Virsyn Band Delay to load in anything?

It works fine for me in AUM. (iPad Pro on 17.7)

Thanks. I’m on latest iPad OS, so will delete and try another reload see if It helps.

Did that solve it? It seems a lot of Harry’s apps are getting updates recently to solve issues introduced with iOS 18. If it’s still a problem, I’d contact him to let him know via the Virsyn website.

nope didnt help, so will contact later

@Fruitbat1919, BandDelay got an update yesterday, is it working for you now?

There are lots of apps out there worth having that aren’t AUv3. I never got that “it has to be AU or I’m out” - some apps don’t need to be AU at all. I’ve got a couple of the seqsual apps that I love called Astal and sqsl RSVP and neither need to be AU.
