That's gorgeous!
Thanks j
Of course. It looks like a paint pour, and I could get lost in it for hours.
Wait till you learn this is a still from an ever changing texture 😀
Dang! That's cool!
I'm venting for the first time about this about three hours after...
So I went to a gallery today. It's a co-op, and everyone that works there is super nice. Last month, I showed a few of them my mobiles and they definitely felt I needed to bring them in and hang them up. Got tons of positive energy, lots of wows, and someone even said they need to be in a museum, not an amateur co-op. I'm flying high. Awesome.
Or so I thought.
Talked to the curator and she agreed to see them three weeks from then... She didn't want to take down her paper decorations for July 4th to accommodate my mobiles. She would be in on Wednesday. Spent weeks prepping.
I got that vibe from her that she wasn't into me... You see, the manager / curator is just the type of person I run into every time I really, really want something to happen. She had a haircut like Edna Mode from the Incredibles and a permanent puss on her face. I am like a Golden Retriever who's excited to play with a stick. We are not the same.
So I come by today. I have brought 7 mobiles for her to pick from... Maybe she'll pick a few. When I introduce myself again, she looks up at the paper decorations still hanging from her ceiling and looks annoyed.
I set up all 7 outside, improvising a setup with some paracord in front of an empty storefront next door. Takes 20 or so minutes.102 with the heat index. No breeze. I have sweated through both my shirt and shorts.
The two employees inside come out first. Apparently, she is taking a dump or something. They oooh and ahh, telling me they are so original, she has to say yes.
She comes out.
I can tell it's a no before she says it three minutes later. The other employees look embarrassed. It isn't even about the price, which I offered to lower to a third of what I sell them for, of which the place gets 30% of that!
I want to point out she has yarn crafts, mid watercolors of ducks and crafts made of popsicle sticks and art made of junk. One was made of pizza boxes selling for 900 dollars. I point out that she has never seen a mobile made of stained glass, and neither has the public, and that people are stopping and looking at them as we speak. This is her shot to stand out.
Nope.
It's hot. 100+ degrees. I leave them up for an hour as passers by walk by and pass with a "wow" or "cool!" or get into it and ask me for a card or what I'm doing here. One remarks, when I tell them I got rejected from the gallery next door, "Wait, the place with the junk said no?!"
I wonder if they are lower than junk. I know they're not. But damn rejection hurts.
My hour on the meter is up. I sigh, take them down and throw them in the back of my Xterra. Fuck.
The Street Art Walk is next month and I'll be about 100 feet away. I'm gonna keep my head up till then... Kinda. Why do I always run into these people at the final stage?! Art, music, teaching... Why is there always an Edna Mode with a puss on her face and a "No." ready before I even get there?
I swear to god I think she just didn't want the hassle of taking down her decorations... A piece of paper.
I can't upload videos or gifs here. They are mobiles. They move. So here is a link to me:

And don't feel bad for me. I'll get my shot. Just gotta push on.
EDIT: And sorry for the rant. No need to pat me on the back.... Just had to say it... Kinda in disbelief... Did that just happen?

@coloringpad That woman sounded like a real piece of work. Speaking of works, your works are incredible!
Thanks for linking us to your gallery, mate.
@Meek3 These two works are gorgeous! Simple, effective, lovely.
Tomorrow, I'm headed with friends to the Wisconsin Museum of Art in West Bend, WI! I'm so excited, because I haven't been to this art museum in at least a decade if not longer. I enjoy all art, but Modern Art is my favorite. I know Abstracts and such aren't to everyone's tastes, but if what I saw online is an indicator, this gallery has art of all genres.
Thanks!
Done a few years ago...
Ooooo! That's f--king amazing! Which medium(s) did you use for this awe-inspiring piece?
I did this and several others using my iphone and at one point had them printed out onto art quality paper and framed for an exhibit at a friends gallery.
The process involved a random seed of a scribble or photo running it through a glitch program and a paint emulation program, perhaps repeating several times, layering and compositing the same altered image with its previous iterations and tone mapping to desired colors.
I know it's vague on specific apps but the principles would be the same regardless of apps.
Thank you for the complement.
That's awesome.
And of course, mate. I love celebrating the visual arts, whether representational, abstract, etc. Of course my favorite art is Abstract, because instead of painting what you see, you paint a mood.
