Thanks for the feedback. You are spot on. Some was intentional, like the drums, that obviously didn't work. Mix is muddy for sure. Will try to update by end of month. That last bit of vocals suck for sure.
@rmonkey the drums dropping to half-time might work better if there was also an overall drop in the dynamics of the track - as in the Pixies/Nirvana loud-quiet-loud trick. At the moment it's just the feel of the drums that changes, independently of the other instruments, and that's why it sounds a bit jarring.
@richardyot: thanks, you got the point. I tried to make it diverse, but noticed that when I work on any track for too long it starts to frustrate me But that skill comes only with actual writing.
will try to listen to every track and add some comments in this thread, sooo:
@Igneous1: interesting arrangement, guess it took a lot of time to make it non-repeating. In the mix I would prefer a little less bass, wider stereo image and softer bell-lke synths and hihats.
P.S. It would be awesome to have a simple eq on every channel in gadget.
@myoss there were some great musical elements in there, it could just maybe all be pushed a little further.
@touchconspiracy: I like that track is not boring even it's 7 minutes long:) As said before claps could be quieter and I've noticed that bell sound in the middle of track sounds too "big".
Nice guitar and atmospherics..the voice is good but a bit too loud, maybe turn it down a little but so it blends more..apart from that..good stuff, nicely done
Thank goodness...trancey neurofunk dnb!
It's really well made, but the drum hits need to "slam more"...but it's brilliant and am happy to find another dnb track
Hope you've done more or are doing more.
Check out my mix, has tracks by myself, a brilliant gadget dnb artist "Patternseeker UK" and the intro is by Jesper Jones
Thanks for your comments on my track btw
@Touchconspiracy thanks for your feedback mate.hmm...yeah,we did um and ah over whether the vocal was a smidge too loud and in the end just left it.Id be interested in anyone else's thoughts on this before I go back into the lab with it:) thanks again man.
Lol, all you have to do is turn that track down a slight bit eh? No need go into a lab
It's just my ears, base your final decision on general consensus maybe
@LostBoy85 Never been a believer in putting your jewels at the back of the shop. Think the mix is good.
@Touchconspiracy haha! Ur right mate it's just then I have to remember how I set up audio mastering for after...re-upload it yadiyada yada...I felt it was maybe bordering on loud & ur advice is good.I guess I'm just feeling a bit lazy:)...unless a couple more agree with your good self...then il man up & pull that fader like a waitress at Hooters!!:D
You recorded it all in as one track in audio mastering?
Confused lol
Sorry,I meant the whole mix from Auria bounced into Audio Mastering...
Ok gotcha..
You should have saved a preset in audio mastering then lol, then all you'd need to do is go back to Auria , adjust the various levels till YOU not US feel comfortable then open in audio mastering with the preset etc
I have presets in final touch for different styles, sometimes I re tweak, sometimes I don't
But all the fuss about Auria led me to believe that it is itself capable of mastering..am I wrong?
You can Master songs in Auria, however I prefer Audio Mastering (I've also used final touch) simply because it has an "Easy" mode so I don't have to work too hard, that's a good shout about the presets though mate.Thanks.
I was happy with the mix,but I value people's opinions on here...also sometimes u can listen to a song too much and you kind of can't see what's staring you in the face:D
Have you ever worked with vocals on your stuff before?
i got a spesfic vision for these raps vibe with it
@SHAM I should probably recuse myself here as I don't generally listen to hip-hop (just not my bag) however I will make a couple of minor comments:
firstly the rapping seems to get much more proficient and confident towards the end, so you might need to warm up/practice more before recording, and also generally one of the things that you usually have in a hip-hop track is a strong beat for the rap to riff against rhythmically, I think this would strengthen the rhythm of the vocal considerably.

As mentioned I am shortly off to elsewhere and my guess is that I won't finish the song I've been writing by the end of the month. Truth is it's written, but there's just that small matter of getting it recorded in any kind of acceptable fashion. Not so far. Maybe in London, but I'm not optimistic.
In the interim, and to keep my ante in the pot, Matt and I have been talking about working (him) on a soundtrack for some video (me) and this idea led me to a small side project for which I organized/tracked down/edited a series of short clips to explain (to myself at least) an idea I have about the circular circumstances of women.
I wrote the music after I'd put the film together and it was a worthwhile learning experience.
Gadget (Module) and Grain Science.
London is okay.. But with Abu Dhabi you can take your recordings to the next level !!..
Only kidding I'm guessing your job requires you move to Uk, which you hope to be London? Just think of all those hours of travel you can witter away on the iPad.
Your track, Short and sweet for obvious reasons, but not sure it'd work any other way. Great soul touching keys there and Grain Science works well in the background. Must be strange putting a video together with no music to go by, but you've done it well. Some great shots in there.. Like it, cheers JGY
Hello
Still finishing my collaboration track with Johnny.
In the meantime, here's this. No Gadget! Just Animoog and a lot of the lovely iElectribe played kind of live:
Interested to know what people think.
That's lovely, really nice. Must be refreshing to throw your workflow on it's head and record the vid then the music, rather than the other way around. Look forward to hearing your collaboration with Matt. I've still got your samples so am still planning to do something with those at some point - unfortunately the track I'd been working on was one of the one's I mentioned a few months back that became corrupted in Auria.
Very cool and professional sounding - and radio friendly too.
I like it Matt, got an early Kraftwerky feel to it. I like your new experimental stuff.
I notice there's a Bristol reference in there, and funnily enough it does remind me of the vibe there in the late 90's. Nice to know what synth's you've used (apologies if you've already mentioned this elsewhere), but a gritty, urban feel going on - a bit like the city.
Thanks @Monzo. I feel the best bit is at 1.28 for 4 bars . And then again at 2.33. I'm totally loving iElectribe with the "decimator" effect on at the moment!
I'm planning to do a good catch up and comment on this thread shortly.
@halftone
Really love your track... That's a massive sound you've got going on there. Loads of drama. And beautifully produced.
I really wanted some Grime-style vocals to start up once it got going to be honest!
The bass is great.
That super saw thing that sounds like Brussels (Gadget) is also great.
Yes - please tell us all what you used. Very impressive.
Nice beginning, middle and end to the track too.
@JohnnyGoodyear nice atmospheric piece, works well even without the visuals, great atmosphere and I really like the piano. There's some distortion in the left channel at around 30 seconds, you might want to look into that.
@Matt_Fletcher_2000 since I like songs that are locked into a solid groove while a pretty melody is played into my ears, this one is obviously a challenge for me to critique.
I found the lack of groove made it difficult for me to enjoy the song, I prefer jarring rhythms in small doses. Also didn't think there was really enough going on musically aside from the rhythms - it sounds like an enjoyable experiment with iElectribe rather than a fully fledged song to me.
@RUncELL
I must confess to being a bit of a fan of some of your stuff... I have "Make the bass clear" pinned to my likes on Soundcloud and listen to it quite often. I also really like your video on YouTube where you're wandering around a totally destroyed city.. It's amazing! - Where did you get that footage from?
This Nave track - if i'm honest - isn't my favourite. There are things I like: the sample sounds - the nice synthetic drums, especially the snare etc... But my big problem is with the Nave vocals - it just sounds a bit over used to me... and I can't really make out the words...
For a Nave competition it's a good idea to have Nave sing - but when it comes to it i'm just not sure I like Nave's voice .
Totally, personal opinion though... Please keep posting here because i'd love to hear more of your stuff.
@Sham
All in all, pretty impressive... I agree with Richard about the vocals getting stronger as the track progresses. And perhaps the backing track needing to be a bit more varied.
But putting this together is pretty impressive... it's got tons of attitude, lots of decent rhymes and content, and I bet it was a lot of work to get it all down.
The mix of the voice 'stuck out' a little bit too much for me. I know that in this genre the vocals need to be high in the mix - but they maybe needed to be compressed to merge them into the backing a bit more (or something like that (i'm no expert on vocals).
Good work though.
@richardyot - all fair enough Richard...
It's a sketch really... not a finished track (although I probably won't go back to it).
I want to take the approach further though...
I get tired of programming drums click by click on the grid so for this I just riffed them using a crazy Genome set-up (which i've put another thread up about). I think the result is much more organic - but admittedly a bit rough. For a proper track I think i'd either riff the drums into gadget as midi and then tidy up / pull out the best bits - or possibly record iElectribe audio and then chop this up carefully into a track.
And you're right there's not enough else going on for a 'proper track'. It's more of a soundscape thing I guess.
It was fun though - and didn't take long (which is sometimes a blessing!).
