  • In case it's not immediately obvious, the looping interface supports both audio and virtual instrument clips (i.e. Piano roll). As well, you can run the looper and the standard track interface at the same time.

    No AU effects?

    No...same reverb and echo

I think the question is does it support AU effects.

And the answer is still no. No selectable effects at all.

Damn. I really wanna buy some Blamsoft effects. So I gotta wait.

  • Can we import our own loops into the looper tool?

  • Until they change the interface, it still feels too much like a toy. The music memo app sounds interesting, though.

You can paste from the general pasteboard into the grid.

So it's pretty simple if long winded to get stuff in from audioshare.

You can also load stuff from iCloud Drive. (But not many things seem to save there)

  • Awesome update, still lacking lots of features of course. Looks great on the iPad pro and the workflow it's now really fluid, no more screen switches.

  • I still wish the guitar effects on the Smart Guitars were as flexible as the effects available when you plug a guitar in - sometimes it seems so near yet so far.

  • I've got a 13 year old who's going to love it but until I see the logo in the input slot it's hard to get excited about it. Many things still to like and as a loopermaker will give Launchpad a run for the neighborhood etc.

Nice to have an iPhone 6S plus now ;) I was hoping for Alchemy, Sculpture etc.... Maybe next year?
I hope Logic Pro X update coming soon too!

A minute after i wrote this i got updates for Logic Pro X and Mainstage..... lol. But all these updates will take some hours with my medieval net connection :(
Edit: Woah.... these update descriptions sound huge too.
This time Apple surprised me.... positive

Cheers @ Cinebient for the heads up on Logic Pro X update......numerous improvements to Alchemy including Apple Loops support and 11 new spectral effects. And more.

Same here  Hoping for steinberg make a complete AU implementation
Although Ferrite does support AU, not sure if so without the IAPs

  • I got excited by the looping but no link, no AB and IAA as audio only ?? Or has it been so long since I last used this that I forgot how to use it ?

^ I don't think "LiveLoops" is quite the same as a Live Looper as far as Apple is concerned.

Does this even do Looping or just launchpad style stuff? :-/

I think it's only for recorded loops.

  • Trying to like it. Might be another delete again.

  • Got excited to see the "live drummer" option. Will definitely check this out, at least on iPhone.

I always find it kind of strange how people throw the "toy" insult at GarageBand. Have I generally preferred it over MTDAW, MTS, and even Music Studio? No. But with audio tracks and IAA/AB compatibility (plus some pretty decent built-ins and some MIDI capabilities), it's a perfectly capable DAW used in conjunction with other apps.

  • Unless I'm missing something, the loop fx are global, which makes this a poor Launchpad.

  • @StormJH1 I'm also curious about the "live drummer." When I'm sketching out a song, I like to use the drums to mark where the verses and choruses are, etc. This might be a quick and dirty way to do that...

    Agreed.

And to Mister Storm's point, there is a certain snobbishness about GarageBand. It seems to be the Coldplay of apps.

Could you please exolain how to switch between looper and standard track interface in the same song? I can't seem to find it.

I don't get a paste option in the grid. Can you please help me out here?

  • Hey, and also, just happy to be able to fade finally....small mercies etc.

Just start a regular song and enter the track view, then click on the looper set icon in the top left of the screen, and either load a set or create a new set. (You could also do this the reverse way by loading a looper set and then going into the track view).

After that you can switch between the looper and track view with the icons in the top left.

  • @Busker thanks for explaining. That is amazing. Garageband has grown up.

    ^^

  • Nice for playing keys over drums and loops. Just wished the FX of Garage band had more depth to it.

The loop FX is way too basic and the main Daw needs AU FX.

  • All things aside what Apple has done with this Garageband update, and that new "Music Memos" app, are the kinds of examples of why we love Apple (when we love them that is). I just wish they would do more of this kind of thing. I'm not sure why they don't because they have the resources and it also seems like this encourages people to buy their hardware more, thus increasing their bottom line.

    Cool beans though.

  • I also think it will be fun to jam with iSEM against the drums.

I hope Steinberg catch up soon with AU implementation. It's nice to open up an AU instrument like iSEM in Garageband. But it's too limited for me, and I'd rather stick with Cubasis since I paid for it.

  • Anyone figure out how to do volume automation?

  • edited January 2016

Does it include AB input slot?
