I haven't downloaded it yet, but I'm gonna bet it doesn't - and never will.

Anyone figure out how to do volume automation?

Found it. Tap on track icon in track view.

    No.

  • That dont work..i acp a 1 bar loop from gadget, did that, got the cell, also can get the sequencer track, pressed and hold as was the old way to add pasteboard stuff, nothing happens lol

Just get options for apples own loops or cloud crap

Be more specific with screen shots if possible

    Thanks

As well, you can run the looper and the standard track interface at the same time.

Could you please exolain how to switch between looper and standard track interface in the same song? I can't seem to find it.

@BiancaNeve said: You can paste from the general pasteboard into the grid.

I don't get a paste option in the grid. Can you please help me out here?

You have to press the edit button bottom left

Works for me, (but you have to copy first in a "blank" audio track in the arragement view)
1, I copy my gadget clips in the arrangement view,
2, right click on them, convert in loops,
3, press record and live play in the loops view
4, back in the arrangement view I have my "perfomance" (I like that garageband extend the bars as long as needed if the "automatic" box is clicked in the "+" menu)

    No AU effects?

    No...same reverb and echo

I think the question is does it support AU effects.

And the answer is still no. No selectable effects at all.

is this confirmed? a user posted on Discchord a few mins ago that "The AU effects are there under the "Effects" button next to "Instruments." I can see stuff I have installed like Tonestack, Filtatron, SunVox and others. Haven't really played around with it much, though."

That would be IAA effects they are referring to.

has anyone used it yet using multimate track recording ?

    wife won’t let me

  • I like how I'm confused, must mean there's more here than I'm seeing....

  • Here iPad4, lot of crackles on Drummer (single track) when you put the "Fill" value over the minimum.

Can we import our own loops into the looper tool?

You can paste from the general pasteboard into the grid.

So it's pretty simple if long winded to get stuff in from audioshare.

You can also load stuff from iCloud Drive. (But not many things seem to save there)

Audioshare can upload to iCloud, so I'm covered.

Sadly, the Live Loops is missing something crucial that is found in Launchpad; the ability to set the native BPM / Bar length of an imported loop. This throws off everything, unless you set the project BPM to match the first loop.

OK by me, I guess, because I bought a Launchpad Mini controller, just for that app. I'd hate to have no use for it! Hope Novation leaps in and updates LP to allow live recording / AB recording into empty slots. Then, it would cover all the bases.

  • I'm liking what I see so far. AppleLoops can finally be transposed freely and are not limited to the tuning of the section. This makes it possible to have say 8 bar section with a few repetitions of a 2 bar bassloop and each 'copy' can be transposed at will. I's also possible to half or double the tempo.

The pianoroll seems to work quite well, wonder if it supports automating the synth parameters? (Would ve awesome for controlling iSEM).

Also 'Open In...' export works well, easy to send stuff to AudioShare :)

Works pretty smoothly on my iPad Air 2 so far.

No automation for iSEM parameters... :( wish it will come up in a next update...

Judging by Apples history I am guessing that feature will either never come - or it'll be a few years before it does. I bet there won't be another update to GB for several months to a year... But hope I'm wrong - sometimes Apple does surprise - this update did!

  • Initial impressions, kind of a weak update.

Volume automation finally makes it useful, and I suppose some might like those creepy looking faceless drummers even though they pigeon hole you into a genre, beyond that it still feels very lacking.

The loop launch feature seems cool at first, but for whatever reason they let you launch a scene with the arrow button at the bottom, but don't give you a way to stop a scene???

Then you have the effects which are locked onto the master output, with no way to isolate them to a single track. They basically just copied Novation, and did so poorly.

They still haven't made use of perhaps the best feature, which is the smart controls. Why not make them universal? Just combine all the instruments and let people choose whether they want to control them with the normal controls or the smart controls. Dividing them up makes no sense. Add in the ability to control other apps with the smart controls and they may be on to something.

I don't know, seems like Apple has lost their innovation. The past few years they've spent a ton of money on acquisitions, and seem to have resorted to either buying people out or just copying/stealing ideas (IAA = AudioBus, this new loop launcher = any number of clip launchers like it).

This app could be good. Right now it still isn't.

You can stop scene by tapping on empty scene row.

    For being a free-$5 and universal, I think it's a colossal app

I should probably read through the help, because yes it says as much. Thanks for the tip anyhow.

  • Never found GarageBand useful ,but I admit I like the loops. Perfect for exporting the samples to other apps...

  • ios9 only? Is no one else grumbling about this?

Compared to what it could be with a few obvious and relatively minor additions, it falls short and still reeks of unfulfilled potential.

I could pretty much say that about every audio app that I use... doesn't mean they're not good apps for what they are.

I agree, but then my needs are kind of low-end.

  • GarageBand can do a lot more than it could before the update. The T-Pain video that @fjcblanco posted provides an example of how you can use the new loops feature to build up your song by starting with loops, adding your material, and then adjusting some more. Depending upon your goals you can stick with loops provided, import new ones, or create your own. This loop based composition method can almost be thought of as an advanced metronome which instead of just marking time, can also be a place marker for other aspects of your song. The drummer can play a similar role. The results could then be exported elsewhere for more processing. Having more tracks is very useful too.

  • Drummer is awesome, looks to be the same as the desktop version and very very useful for songwriting. Now need to find some inspiration, been consumed with day job work as of late.

Not only day job - but Link and Modstep updates over past week has kept me busy trying out various setups/things. And now GB too!

Too true! It's strange that they hold back so many simple features.
I'm imagining the iOS music dev team at Apple begging their bosses to let them add more features only to be shot down every iteration due to upper management and company "politics" as in "playing the market".

  • "If we hold that feature out this time we can increase sells by adding it to the lineup in August with the new iOS promo"

Are you saying that I can transpose the loops to follow my chord progression?

  • I would of liked to see GarageBand in the input of Audio Bus.
