I'm wondering if the new update of Gadget will allow sharing of projects? Surely Korg would want to consider having that wouldn't they?
Just curious... Thor has not been changed within Reason (whence it originated), so why the expectation that Props should upgrade it on IOS? When it was released, it was considered to be among the best IOS synths out there. It hasn't lost any of its capabilities, so why the angst?
Personally, I'd love to see a version of Reason for the iPad. Given the extremely small footprint (both RAM and CPU) of the early versions of Reason, it would seem very likely it would run on today's iPads. Even a 'lite' version would be so great for on-the-go composing which could then be transferred to the desktop Reason for finalizing.
I've been a Reason user since version 1, and I just upgraded to version 8 (from 7), and although I do love the changes in the UI which streamline the creation process, I had expected more from a version upgrade.
"export: You can transfer your ideas into your DAW via iTunes File Sharing or Dropbox. - See more at: http://www.korg.com/us/products/software/korg_gadget_for_ipad/page_3.php#sthash.QyOUk55t.dpuf"
There is also the old Ableton export as well.
As far as the news regarding Gadget 2.0 go, it will have iCloud Drive for most things, including project files making sharing easier.
I wish all apps would stop using the dreaded iTunes File Sharing and go all in with iCloud Drive/iOS FilePicker as this would give us at least a little freedom to manage our files without resorting to other means.
I hope that any App that adds iCloud support makes sure to keep iTunes & dropbox support. My experiences with iCloud have not been happy ones.
Apples naming convention here is unfortunate, iCloud is the storage-space in the 'cloud'(which I don't use) while iCloud Drive is the 'method' of putting files on any cloud or local service supporting iOS FileProvider-Extension (such as AudioShare, DropBox, Documents 5, Google Drive etc).
It's been a long-lasting wish of mine that Apple would 'wake-up' and publish all apps 'iTunes Shared folders' in one place. I had hopes that Apples own iCloud Drive app would do that but nope, it's still only for files 'in the cloud', maybe it will happen in iOS10 or so.
iOS-Filepicker(aka. iCloud Drive) can be used to access DropBox too as long as DropBox.app is installed on the device.
Exactly, why don't they just make it a proper function ?????????
Why can't I just manage projects like I can in other apps, Cubasis for one ?
It just shows what they REALLY think of the platform, it's not serious, it's a toy, it's a way to get you to pay for 'grown up software'.
And as for export for Ableton, again, just using the platform to drive you to the desktop.
I can import entire folders and go at least 3 subfolders deep using filepicker with Beathawk, imagine that kind of functionality for Gadget. we need to march on Washington or Tokyo or something, a big pro-filepicker social justice whatever...
Thor doesn't have MIDI clock, which would be useful for the arpeggiator. If I remember correctly, in Reason, the arp in Thor will sync to MIDI clock. So that right there would be essential. Albeton Link would be even better.
YES. I WILL WEAR AN UNSUITABLE WIG IN PURSUIT OF MEDIA COVERAGE ETC. RISE UP! NO FOLDERS NO PEACE!
I would LOVE an iOS version of Reason... PLEASE!

Here's a simple reason why none of the suggestions in this thread are going to get implemented: not enough people would pay the price for apps that would justify these massive improvements in Propellerhead's apps.
There are no apps that sell for 300+ bucks. And if there are, they don't sell. Propellerheads needs to pay their bills, too, so they pivoted their app strategy to something more promising: a bigger market.
I understand that but then........ no one tryed to sell a really large pro app for a pro price yet. Who says that no one pays for it?
Someone must start because otherwise it never evolves...... (of course iOS had to get up too a bit).
The marketing on iOS apps is also still very mouth to mouth in general. No developers in the iOS world seems to take the time to create some proper demo videos etc..... i really don´t get it.
^@Sebastian, all I want is for Rebirth to work. I paid for it. Is that too much to ask? And as for Props just needing to pay the bills, why then is Figure (which is free) their main iOS app. Why not then allow us to edit- hell, make editing an IAP. Now that really would pay the bills, as I'm sure everyone using it would stump up at least a few quid for the ability. Their product development and customer service is a shambles, IMHO.
In my opinion Propellerheads should have discontinued it if it costs too much to support it. So it's not an ideal situation. To be frank: yeah, you're probably asking too much from anyone to support an app over 5-6 iOS versions that you've paid for once and that has no IAPs.
Because Propellerheads is pivoting into monetising their massive user base at some point with it. You're still paying for it, even if it's free. What you're paying with is your reach and the chance that either you or the people you introduce to Figure and other Propellerheads products will pay money for something some time in the future.
No, it wouldn't. It would increase the overall revenue of the app by 10-30% and that would not cut it.
Addendum:
The real problem is that nobody can charge for updates. If developers had that chance, apps could be supported for much longer.
Thank´s for all the insider info.... seems iOS is still a dead island. But as long as customers and developers doesn´t migrate in masses to other OS, companies, whatever, it does not change.
Sadly it seems that all the f...... fremium game sellers make enough money. I know a lot people who spend several i-tunes card a months for "gems" and "gold" and "stars"........
Maybe i could buy some gold in the next synth app
It's the other way around. Everyone is moving towards mobile. Last year desktop sales have dropped by another 20% in Europe.
But is that really important for music creation? We talking mainly about consumer and if i would not make music or sound design as a little hobby i would not need any pc or notebook too i think.
There are much more iPhones out there but we know that developers focus on iPads ( and i undersatnd of course why).
But what is mobile today? Smartphones, smartlets, tablets, convertibles, notebooks.....?
I also don´t use a desktop and never did.
The niche who makes music on computing devices is very small i think and even smaller on "mobile" devices.
I´m sure mobile and touch and further technics in this field IS the future. I´m sure 3D virtual reality things are the next big thing in music production....
That's what I was wondering, how much of music creation has started to shift to mobile versus desktop/laptop?
Yes.
Exactly.
Exactly. That's a problem too. iPad sales are falling. That's another reason why the music market on iOS is tough.
Smartphones, Phablets, some iPads and that's it. Whatever Microsoft does is not 'mobile'.
See above.
Yes, but the entire mobile market is bigger and it's growing (at least phones and phablets are).
Not sure about that. It's the status quo but I'm hoping more open platforms will be viable soon.
I'm certain that's not the next big thing. I've built virtual 3D instruments in virtual worlds before and trust me, they're not fun to use.
So then all developers should now focus on iPhone, right!.....???
And when we talking about semi- and professional users which have a huge impact on pro apps..... do we think they use a mobile OS which is unstable and limited in very important areas like file sharing, expanded space, connections etc.
What the hell is less mobile on an surface compared to an iPad Pro?
The true is i would use an iPad Pro as my workstation in a heartbeat if it would be more..... microsoft like..... but a bit more apple like at the same time
And what if you bought the app just now for the full price?Shouldn't it work as advertised then? It's not really a cheap app for iOS conditions (and free for PC).It works but as i described above,it has some serious issues on iOS9.If a developer has given up on an app (not saying this is the case here),he should at least pull it from the store if problems are raising instead of still selling it for full price.
"Propellerhead was obviously embarking on making serious music production apps for IPads."
I never thought this. I've always figured that when I buy an iOS app for a few bucks, where the developer can't charge for updates, especially made by a "big company," that I'm buying a product as is, that it does what it does on my device as it is, and that's it. I don't expect it to work with the next iOS update, with any new technologies, or for features to be added that it doesn't already have. Anything new the developer offers is a gift or just a sign that they're still in the game on iOS for that app. They could get out of the game at any time.
I got Thor on my iPad. It's cool and was worth the small amount I paid for it, but with newer apps getting my attention, I haven't looked at it in awhile.
A good point.... but then when i buy an app i always look into the update list and i can see if it´s abandoned.
Market forces work on the Windows and Mac systems, but for iOS, just like Prop's RE market, these are limited systems, hence the artificial pricing structures which simply limit sales or the value of the sale, one way or another.
Yes! And because of that i don't get it why it should count that mobile devices sells better than desktops!
It doesn't give iOS music apps more customers.... maybe for new cat piano apps
But you can't expect that every customer is doing it this way.You might be smart but the "masses"are pretty dumb (less in the creative or music scene),what i've seen in app store reviews let you seriously doubt there is hope for mankind
Who says i'm smart Dumb is my second name!
But i agree.... Mankind is lost!
If so many users are willing to pay for upgrades with extra features, why don't we see more separate 2.0, 3.0, etc apps?
For example Korg's next release of gadget could have a ton of new features but it'd be a separate app called Gadget 2. People would pay for continuous development and it'd fall under Apple's ridiculous rulings. Why are we not seeing more of this?
