An ambitious effort indeed. I have to say, it sounds like you are pushing your technical limits regarding some of the guitar solo stuff (which can be a good thing). The dead stop to the drums at 1:00 is a tad sudden and the structure is a tad incoherent, to these ears. Imaginative effort though.

Thank you, @Igneous1! As for technique, it is a rather simple melody; the only tricky part to record was the fast picking scale at 2'11'', but then again it was an very short passage. If you want to listen to me really "pushing my technical limits", voilà:

That's certainly pretty nifty - not quite in 'Malmsteen territory', but definitely 'surf speed'. It reminded me of the Pixies Planet of Sound era on speed ! I take it you've heard 'Sails of Charon' by Scorpions ?

P.S.: do you like Malmsteen? I used to play a few songs of his when I was a kid and studied four hours a day everyday. Wield My Sword and Rising Force were my favourites to play, specially because I had a band with a really good singer then, and he also liked Malmsteen, Stratovarius and other virtuoso bands.

  • Alicia Keys - Unthinkable/Get Ready......... My Remix Version + Dub. I managed to get the acapella, then got the BPM(via Traktor D.J) from there I found beat I liked then built on that. Took a couple of samples that I own(paid for) into the mix.

Really like this, has a bit of the post-punk early synth stuff I love - Throbbing Gristle/Coil and all that. Finish this off with some sinister vocals (@JohnnyGoodyear would be a perfect match) and you've got a cracking track. And resist the temptation to over produce the finished version - the rawness really works.

thanks monzo. i am not sure i'll ever finish this one. whenever i tried working on it again, i kept looping it and never doing anything. maybe added some variations to the drums, but never got far.

Pretty good first attempt, I'd say. Certainly has a certain charm.

anyway, thanks dudes. maybe in teh far future of 2020 i'll upload a second track. hehehe.

  • one of the first iPad tracks I've "finished." Though I arranged it in Ableton.

  • Need to catch up on the latest entries, but in the meantime here is my effort for the month. I cannibalised an old song, keeping the verse and re-writing the chorus and instrumental.

    Lyrics here.

    Thank you, @trackedout!

  • A couple of brief ones:

Cathouse Regulars: iGrand, Thumbjam, Drum Loops HD

Medicine Again: Medley, ostrich guitar into iRig Pro into Tonestack

    Thanks for listening!

  • @JeffChasteen sounds so natural. ... Like a live band in an old new Orleans pub just jamming to jam . really dig the piano for the vibe itself I love the levels. I myself prefer drums slamming. Its all in personal preference though and that's why music around the world is unique. Some music can be identified in a single note do to the signature sound that engineer did

An atmospheric little snack. Reminds me of a Bladerunner outtake.

I wish you hadn't told me (me, me) that this was an older tune as I immediately thought of JAMC, but realized that a lot of my feeling about that 'sound' (which I like) is the rhythm guitar style as much as anything.

I do think that this effort could do with the vocals being mixed up a little. I'm not even certain if I mean volume or if I would prefer them to 'cut through' the mix a little more. They seem a shade woofly.

I like the chorus but would also be interested to hear some backing vocals sung by a different voice(s). Girls maybe? As one-man-bands we do -understandably- end up with a lot of ourselves as backing vocalists when the 'compare and contrast' feeling of a different sound might sometimes add something, well, different. I suppose I should declare a pathological prejudice which involves wanting to hear a version of most songs with Emmylou Harris warbling in the background... do love the line 'The news is bad but the premise is sound'... :)

Love the back track. Beck in 1979. Loose as a goose. You catch/make the sound of a band actually lazily playing away together in some back room. No small thing. Think there's room for a little pacing/emphasis difference in the delivery, but love the ending. Fuck em, there it is.

Still not quite certain how Dr. John isn't singing over this, something about 'going down to the Ward Seven cemetery, going to to hear my woman sing, she'll be dancing with the devil, you should see that bad boy swing...'

Thanks for the kind words. They confirm that my intention was successful.
    Thanks for listening.
