@Igneous1 I liked the overall production and particularly the bass sound near the end. Ultimately though for me it doesn't really go anywhere.
@perestroika I loved the beat you had going man and the some of the synth sounds were good. Never be afraid to publish your stuff on this forum, I learnt a load from the feedback I have received since I have been on here.
@fauxen sorry mate but I'm a rugby man myself. Would have liked the musical accompaniment to have been a bit loader in the mix but overall a nice quirky little number.
@jbvdb it's not really my sort of music so I'm struggling to say anything constructive. Like a lot of the electronic instrumentals that people post on here it doesn't really go anywhere. Sorry man.
@studs1966 clever idea, someone has done something similar to one of the Adele songs which my daughter was playing to death throughout our recent holiday. Ultimately it was way too long for me and should have been split into 2 separate tracks. I liked the second half a lot especially the bass line. Is that you playing bass or is a sample?
@raindro nice little trip man. Usually I struggle with these sort of electronic instrumentals but I actually wanted this one to go in for a bit longer
@richardyot nice song, with a great intro, I loved those jangelly guitars. The instrumental bit in the middle seemed a bit lost to me, a bit wall of noise as if something needs to be paired back a bit. I'm not sure if I'm explaining myself as I'm no expert on the production side of things. Overall though I enjoyed it.
@trackedout nice little laid back track man and I was loving the bass line but where was the lead break.
@JeffChasteen the first one is a nice little jam with a real bar room feel to it. I liked the overall sound of the second one but to me it seemed like a very very long introduction. I kept waiting for the actual song to begin.
@AlexB liked the guitar playing but vocally I thought you were struggling a bit. Also I think the Bowie estate might be chasing you for copyright if this ever became a hit.
@oddSTAR great production with a really nice overall sound but it was crying out for some vocals over the top of it.
@marliss great stuff man. Great production and you kept the interest right to the end. I have taken an interest in politics for a long time now and for me both in the U.S. and hear in the U.K. it's the most fucked up its ever been. Sometimes I despair for my kids future.
Right that's me caught up on the feedback. If I've missed anyone let me know
Epic feedback session sir. My turn soon.
@theconnactic Some power Dimitri. The intro rhythm clicking away masks what's coming next. The guitar & snare cut through the mix perfectly & enhances the sheer brutal beauty of your tune. Again, chords/notes I have never heard played together & that appeals to me. You should apply to "Guitar Star." Serious. Your solo at 2.30 is stunning.
This has a much darker feel than your last couple of electro numbers. Something that makes me think about where you were when you wrote this. Like how you're veering off piste a bit while maintaining your awesome guitar playing sounds.
@JohnnyGoodyear What a hooky tune boss. Sinks it's melody & ease of recall deeply inside my gills. Dum, dum dum. Yep, she's in a stuck solid. It's effective in its simplicity & feels achingly poignant. Apt for the subject of your true story.
"We were none of us the same." Sums it up. The event - devastingly quick. The aftermath - devastatingly long. I read in a later post about you getting the feel of your songs right. You've got that in this, spot on. Doesn't need bells & whistles. Your vocal stars in tone & delivery & the last bit (refrain? I'm learning) is very good. The music has been thought about to fit snugly alongside your singing.
I'm looking forward to hearing the results of "less sound fiddling" & more blood stained music papers. I think there's a mountain full of musical creativity inside of you & it's just waiting for you to let it gush from your pores & soul. For this though, excellent, heart felt music.........& words.
The blue eye?
@Igneous1 Ah, something a little different from you this time. What....no flicking time changes? I'm sulking! But, you did give me enough sustenance in that regard with the addition of the second bass drum beat at 1.38. Hang on......& the snare drop out at 2.10. Nice, nice. The more methodical beat you play this time fits in with the colder vibe I get. I like that. Not so safe. Is that Kamata thing like a juvenile delinquent version of the head of hooligans....Cyclops? Interested. How vicious are its "off the peg" sounds?
The smooth bass line with a hint of grumpiness is delightful. Tricky to dance to Igneous but that's the fun. Always get me moving sir. Good stuff again. Gadget has got a dark side......... More, more.
@perestroika See that cave you've recently vacated......can I book it out for a week from 10 Sep? Thanks, cheers.
Mechanical menace of a rhythm section you've got behind you here. All Pistons & crankshafts.....brilliant. You must finish this, it's got so much potency & potential. Yeah, I get the Throbbing G haze & I could also hear a full bodied hard arsed Prodigy dance version as well. Strong, deep riffs. Yep...I'm in.
@snekula. WTF is wrong with that bird at 1.30? He needs a massage. With one tilt of it's head, with one glance into my eyes it's managed to look like a psychopath then all sad & melancholic. Freaky. And why has one of them got a sling & puppet string attached at 2.38?
I enjoyed how at 3.56 you've skilfully paired the head twitches with the "aings & boings." Very cool. I quite liked it's repetition. Killing Joke would as well. It kinda grows inside with every play. Got to give it some time to bed in but completely worth it. A different charm. Good.
@fauxen This is football. Tidy work indeed. Is this you on the vocals. Heard a sneaky MOTD line in a deep voice. Just getting my bearings here. Cleverly crafted tune this is. To get all those words & rhymes to fit must have been a challenge. Passed that with flying blue colours. Well bloody done. Got all the relevant things down.....well, all the above ground, legal stuff anyway.
What language/accent are those players gassing on in at the end. Can't quite make it out. At first I thought it was American but then I asked myself why would you combine Football (soccer) with America........ouch! Your team is?
@orchardman Welcome back both. With lyrics like "I'm back to emptiness smoking in the rain," are you sure you didn't write this on your return from the Costa's? We need the sun again......time for an Orchardman tune. The intro flashed me back to Teenage Fanclub in the white room. Purity. Guitar solo is terrific. Like you poured a pint of ice cold Estrella over the strings & shouted AV IT SON! Contrasted by some lovely, calm keyboard playing from your wife. This adds some softness to complement her gorgeous vocal tone & delivery.
There's a couple of breath sucking snare drags at 1.10 & 4.12. Love them whether on purpose or not. Who's tub thumping on this? Is this slightly heavier feel going to lead you both to that promised land of Siouxsie & the Banshees? Another top tune from you both.
@jbvdb I cranked your tune right up because I'm a sucker for a baggy bass drum sound. Not only that though. I wanted to soak up all the goodness you're pumping out. That crunching beat propels your track up to urgent dance attention required. Good gear this. Sounds like you've found your way around town pretty quickly. Cerebral outro that haunts & teases.
There's another minute or so to fill yet as it cuts out early. Enough to shoehorn in some extra delights. Go on, please fill. Excellent.
@studs1966 Brilliant mate. Fair play, you can do that remix thing alright. The reggae/dub taste is delicious. The sax is stunning with all the echoes & effects. Samples work very well. Like that fleeting sound at 4.11. Professional sounding, quality. Groovy & infectious.
For a short time you transported me to Negril beach & everything that is part of that 8 miles. Could hear this pumping from the beach PA as we all complete the water aerobics session. Remember to douse the spliff first. Nice.
@raindro Bunny naps! That's a cwtchy, warming title. Was expecting a comforting tail........sorry, couldn't resist. I kinda got that vibe as well, particularly in the second half of your tune. The intro was the Magic Roundabout on crack....marvellous thoughts.
Congrats on your first finished track. That's one hell of a fade at the end. Brutal but brilliant. Looking forward to hearing some more from your stable of snuggliness.
@richardyot Go Richard, go. Wow. Is this tempo increase matching your football blood pressure spike? No, serious, this is you at your best tune wise. I like this song a lot. Jangled guitars that I can air guitar to. Drums that I can tap or dance to. A dark, threatening bass (what is it please). A mental, brilliant solo (again, what is it please). Does the solo come from the line "the minor third that was played out of key." And, of course an abrupt ending.
I too would like the vocals up a tad more, especially in the first part. See your chorus..... The second note/chord is a wonderfully dark, dank thing of a sound. Low slung & I mean Peter Hook low slung. I feel that deep inside. Great song gaffer. More of the same please. Very good, very catchy. Top pop.
@trackedout Your buddy should be stood, mouth wide open, in awe of your "out of control" bass playing. Unbelievably cool & original. You nailed it & in a way that probably couldn't be repeated. Love it. Did you get your gear back by the way. Twats.
This is ultra cool. A more laid back funky affair compared to your usual stuff. I can hear this in a Tarantino scene being played over the top of a thigh muscle excavation. You know, serrated bread knife being thrust back & fore in time with the bass. Good luck with that one Quentin! You have a natural charm running through your music. I think that if @rkmonkey graces us again, you two would make some memorable, unique music. Like this slower groove. It's still got your stamp on it......
@JeffChasteen Some good time booze n blues for a Saturday night. You took me to a smoke filled den of depravity to enjoy a bunch of talented musicians bleeding boogie. To think that you sir are ALL of those musicians, deserves recognition. Oooh yeah I feel that place you've sent me. I've left a wee dram on the corner of the bar for you.
This "brief" one needs enlarging & then returned, finished to these decks to be enjoyed & experienced by us punters in the cheap seats in the pub. Lots of atmosphere you've injected here. I'd like to hear it after the musicians have had a few as well. Good stuff.
@AlexB I chose to listen to this one of your two tracks submitted. Only because I saw your lyric sheet & "fucking" appeared twice. Shallow reason I know but....... Anyway, good, strong song sir. Got a Bowie feel to this....... I like & enjoyed your vocals. Silky & understated with a tone that is utterly natural. Lovely. Richard Hawley ish.
The very brief warm up at the start adds to the intro, especially when the hats kick in to brighten the snare beats. What are the drums please? Gorgeous guitar sound that cuts nicely through the pumping bass guitar. All adds up & you've created a really good pop tune. Keep em coming.
@oddSTAR Congratulations. Sure your day was perfect & enjoy your life together. Love. Now, it says "instrumental version." Is there a version with singing as well? If so, I have my box of Kleenex ready to be trashed in 3 minutes. Got to hear it because the music you have played, demands it. It's beautiful, dreamy, euphoric & a tune that I would remove my pins & slow dance along to.
Your wife must be incredibly proud of your song writing talents. And of course....all of your other copious talents..... Have fun & enjoy your future linked together.
Thanks for your feedback, all of which I see/hear/agree with. I am perhaps more of a songwriter than a musician (especially in this exalted company) and as a result use SOTMC as a place to sketch out rather than flesh out , but you have given me some good ideas/encouragement as and when I decide to take this one further.
